RTG - Flavor, Tone.
This game is a D&D 5E Game using The Wild Beyond the Witchlight adventure.
We will be going with the theme of loss and recovery. This can be the physical or metaphysical loss of something and extends to the loss of childhood wonder and the recovery of it.
We will be going with Tasha's Cauldron of Everything where players may select to put +2 into one stat and +1 into another OR +1 in three stats to better tailor their character growing up.
As you may or may not know the game eventually takes the characters to the Feywilds. The bright realm is different than the mundane world even different then the fantasy world the characters may be used too.
It is whimsical and weird, magical and more vibrant and colorful. Though some of the shadows are darker and the land of fairy tales have their share of dark tales too. That being said characters of good alignment and mindset are what I am looking for.
The characters have been to the Witchlight Carnival in their youth some might even work there now depending on backgrounds. As children they snuck into the carnival whether it was because they were too poor to afford tickets, or were adventurous, willful or something similar including getting led to the carnival. Something was lost to them here yet the memories like mist have faded over the years as they became young adults. Yet as the Carnival has returned so to do the memories of that loss come back as fresh and painful as if it only happened yesterday. The return to the Carnival is a chance to get what was lost back and perhaps find answers.
There are two Backgrounds available to characters for this.
The Feylost who for a time were lost in the Feywild yet made it back changed in some way yet knowledgeable of some of the nature of the Feywild. These characters will remember what was lost fully and the sense of that loss is something that will have remained with the character their whole lives.
The other background is Witchlight hand. Where you are a member of the circus and part of the people who help keep the show running. They will know more about the circus itself though not all of it's hidden secrets. They are usually entertainers of some kind though running booths, selling food, working with the circuses animals or even just as extra strong hands to help out around the circus are possibilities.
There are two races which are presented in The Wild Beyond the Witchlight though these races seem more geared to appear later in the game then at the start. I can work with them especially if paired up with one of the above backgrounds.
The Harengon rabbit folk from the Feywild. Think anthromorphic bunnies. Good at hopping and quick dodges in movement.
Faries which kind of get wrapped up into the appearance of small. (Think Gnome or Hafling sized folk with wings.) This works particularly well if paired up with the Feylost background though in this case you are from the Feywild and got lost in the mundane material plane. Another possibility here is you came from the Feywild and found yourself working at the Carnival as a Witchlight hand (Background). The circus is probably one of the only places that has the same feel of enchantment as the Feywild to some degree.
That said these races seem more like they were included to showcase races of the Feywild more then characters from the mundane world come back to the Carnival.
All characters will start at First level.
Stats will be standard array or 27 points to buy stats following the stat purchase table in the Players Handbook.
