Taryton can been seen as the group flies close to it. The buildings are all covered in trees or vine. However the structure of the town was made to last, seen by the fact that the buildings have not crumbled away.

The woods around the small village are also overgrown and the party can see a deer like herd running through land running away from the ship.

All players need to make a Perception Observer roll with a difficulty of 6

"What a dump!" scoffs Alina, cradling her new Hyram Glory sniper rifle. The fact that it was named after her uncle amused her.

She scanned the scene ahead, alert for any danger.

In the cockpit, Alina points to some white smoke coming from one of the buildings and what looks like a cultivated garden. "Looks like this place is not as deserted as we hoped for..."

We've been playing it that VP accumulates within a scene, but that was a lot of maneuvers, so I'm happy amending, if needed.

OOC: So im being pretty lax on when to reset and how to keep VP's. Im doing that to push the story forward. Currently VP's are reset during a scene change. We are in a new scene however the blessing would have been in this new scene. Also when initiative is rolled we will also have to reset VP's, I.E. you can only keep the ones in your personal bank. Which should be maxed at 5 currently.

I'll be glad to recon and check out the smoke.

"Let me land over here in this clearing and then we can check it out." Donavan states

The Captain brings the Zaxxons Revenge down about a mile and a half away from Taryton in a field large enough for the ship. Upon landing he gathers the crew and the party outside the ship.

"Anyone up to assist Kato with recon?" Donavan asks.

John steps forward. "I can assist."

"I can agree with that father. So we have a couple of options. We can pay them to leave. We can force them to leave. We can include them, they probably know this area better than most. Or we can regroup and review other options." John states.

"Perhaps we can serve multiple purposes at once. We could ask them what they know of the area, make sure they know Penelope is here, then pay them to leave and let them get the word on street."

Alina nods at Salos' suggestion. "Agreed. Checking their knowledge of the lay of the land would be useful. Make sure they see Penelope, give them some 'birds and let them spread the word."

"Then who do we want to sent to parlay with them, aside from Penelope." John asks.

"Seeing an Amalthean may be put them at ease and I would like to stay close to Penelope. It would probably be good to have one other."

I'll be glad to parlay with them. Just didn't want to speak for the group until there was a concensus.

"Three is probably enough," replies Alina. "Don't want to overwhelm them."

Salos, Kato and Penelope make their way through the undergrowth of the forest. Traveling for about half an hour, making sure to not be too stealthy however not too loud. They hear a voice coming from the forest.

"Stop right there." The voice states, "I dont want to hurt you but I will. Best you turn back now before you run into real trouble."

Salos stops. He says, "I am an Amalthean. If you are from the camp up ahead, we mean you no harm.  My friend would like to parlay for our mutual benefit. I could also offer some medical assistance if any of your people are seriously sick or wounded."

Salos will entreat him to agree to the parlay, if he is from the camp

Kalas follows the group at a distance. Not close enough to risk being spotted, but close enough to rush in should it be needed.

A boy steps out from the undergrowth with a bow pulled and arrow notched. "Amalthean," he states looking over Salos and slowly releases his tension on the bow. "We havent had one here in a long time. I should take you to Adam, he can decide what to do with you. But I warn you, we have hundreds of snipers in the bushes waiting for you to make a false move."

He leads the party towards the village.

Salos replies, "Thank you, we'd like to speak to Adam", deciding not to call him on the obvious lie.

The boy leads the group towards the village. There are several netted areas that make the village look more overgrown than it actually is. This allows for a few areas where it looks like the are making their own cloth and leathers.

The party can see a half build forge and several of the girls that are working on making flour from wheat. Everyone looks at the party with distrust and some awe. Not a single member appears to be over 25 or so.

Eventually you are taking to one of the building where several of the poeple are gathered around a table.

"Adam, I'm sorry to interrupt but I found an Amalthean and they wanted to see you." the boy states.

Adam stands up and clearly everyone gives him the respect of leader even though he himself doesn't appear to be in his late 20's.

"Well then lets have it. Who is this Amalthean and why is he in our town." Adam states.

Kato is casually looking over everyone, counting the number of people, apparent age, possible threat analysis, etc. Keeping his hands away from his weapons, doing his best to appear peaceful.

My friends and I have need to conduct some business in this town, but we were unaware there were any inhabitants when we chose this location. We come in respect and wish to find arrangements which suit us both. As a gesture of good will and friendship, I offer my services as a healer."

Adam its back down in his chair around the table. "Bruce, take this man to the school and let him check the children. Give the word that we have a healer. Make sure Rebecca visits him about that cough. OH and have Peter go see him about that damn rash."

"Yes sir," one of the guys says, presumably Bruce.

Bruce escorts Salos to another of the buildings in the village. Inside is a make shift classroom were children from 4 to 10 are sitting around 2 of the teens as they are going over their alphabet.

"We have a healer. Bring all the little ones to see him." the young man Bruce tells the others

Salos looks to the teens, "Would you two mind being my nurses while I check on the children? Bring me the most ill children first, one at a time."

He looks to Bruce, "Could you help me set up a makeshift examination area? I'll need some chairs and a table or cot if you have one handy. I'll do what I can with the supplies I have on me and fetch more supplies if needed."

Bruce looks around, "Yeah I can get all that." He then goes about collecting the chairs and a table and another table to use as a cot.

While Bruce gathers the tables and chairs, Salos turns back to the two teens, "I  apologize, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Salos of the Amalthean order. What are your names?"

"Thank you for your service great healer. Im Calista." The girl states.

"And Im Sierra." the other girl replies.

Kato is staying by the princess while the priest earns favor with the kids.

Salos gives them a patronly smile, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Calista and Sierra. Could you begin gathering the sick children? I'll care for those who are most ill first."

Kalas has followed the group to the camp, but is still staying out of sight. Just remaining close enough to hear a struggle or a cry for help.

OOC: I bought one at character creation, so Kalas has one. I don’t remember us specifically being issued them since the adventure started.

OCC: I have set precedence that we do have communications. So yes you will still have them available.

Salos, roll a Perception Remedy, diff 6 for your patients.

Make 3 separate rolls. One for the Kids and 1 for each of the other teens patients that have reported illnesses.

When the kids are busy, Salos will quietly call out on the squawker, "We've met their leader and they have some sick that I'm caring for. Don't have time to talk right now." Salos has gathered that the children are understandably untrusting. He is trying to be discreet without being sneaky.

"Understood," replies Alina. "Good luck and keep us posted."  She relays the information to the rest of the crew.

"Captain," she asks. "Would your sensors be able to pick up lifeforms or movement on the ground?"

"I did happen to pick up some nice 2nd Republic upgrades a few years ago. One happened to be a sensor array. And bless the Pancreator that Vera seems to understand how to keep it going." Captain Donavan replies. "So yeah we should be able to notice movement and creatures on the ground."

The two girls bring the children to Salos one at a time. I few are malnourished but other wise in good health. Giving them some vitamins and inoculations takes up most of Salos time.

After the children come a few of the teens. One of them has a common cold another a rash over most of his body. Appears to be a reaction to the local flora.

All in all after 4 hours Salos has seen all the patients.

After a couple hours had passed, Salos will use the squawker to update the ship. Given the malnourished state of the children, he asks Captain Donavan if he can send some food rations, but to wait for his signal.

Once Salos has seen all the patients, he looks to Bruce, "Shall we return to Adam and the others?"

"Alright sir." Bruce states as he leads the party back to the building that had the 'elders' in it.

Once inside the group are still sitting around the table and Adam stands. "Thank you for looking over our people. Now what is it you needed with our village?"

"You are very welcome. I'm pleased to report that none of the children had serious health problems. As a further gesture, I would like to radio a friend of mine to bring some durable food rations and basic medical  supplies- bandages, antiseptics, etc."

"As for our need with your village, we have some sensitive and possibly dangerous business to tend to. We selected your village because of tactical advantage and because we thought it was uninhabited. We would benefit from your knowledge of the area and we do not wish you any harm. If you would provide us information and also relocate for a day or two. If you are willing to parlay on these matters, please discuss terms and any tactical information with my trusted friend Kato here."

"We would greatly appriciate the rations and medial supplies, indeed. But if we relocate, the chances of us being able to come back are very slim." Adam states. "This mission of yours has nothing to do with us. We found this village and we intend to defend it against all invaders."

"We have seen the girl that you brought into our village. We have seen her face from men looking for her." Adam continues. "We do not want to be involved in anything that will harm our people."

"Nor do we wish to do anything that will harm your people. I'm curious about these men that you've seen that you've seen that were looking for our girl. How long ago did you see them and how many?

"And what if we were to pay you to rent this area from you for a few days?"

"About a week, maybe a week and a half ago." Adam states thinking for a moment. "Merc's looking for an easy bounty. Only a few visited us then moved on."

"Pay you say. how much?" Adam asks.

"how does 25 firebirds sound? to rent this area from you for a few days."

While they discuss details, Salos will step aside and radio Captain Donavan, "Captain, could you go ahead and send someone to bring those rations and medical supplies I requested earlier?"

"Well I could send John, or Alina, or the Brothers." Donavan replies. "You choice."

Adam thinks about Katos offer. "I will have to discuss this with the elders. We will let you know. For the time being if you could wait outside."

To Adam, "We will wait for your answer outside." Proceeds to lead the princess and Salos outside.

To Salos, "Do not ask for the twins on this one."

"I'll go," says Alina. "Bada-Gar, come along and help me gather medical supplies and foodstuff."

"Thank you, Lady Alina"

Alina and Bada-Gar make it to the village to deliver the supplies. The villagers accept the supplies and disseminate them as needed.

Adam comes out of the building and invites party into the main hall/ building of the village.

The party comes in and Adam addresses the group. "We have agreed to your proposal. However, we need to ensure that certain areas are protected."

"Our Garden, Our School and our Main Hall." he continues.

Kalas joins in over the sqawker, “If I can help let me know. I’m near the camp so I understand if you don’t want to wait. I’m satisfied for now that Salos and the girl are safe.”

"For our part, we will do our best to protect those areas. Though we cannot guarantee the actions of the men looking for her. But I give you my word that if those men do do something to those areas, we will have them rebuilt.

"Can you show us those areas so that we can avoid them?"

Salos waits for an opportunity when he can discreetly whisper to Kato, "I just realized something. Those mercs they said came through here a week and a half ago? That would have been days before Merian's body was found."

"Interesting."

"Indeed"

Bruce offers to take the party around to show them the places that they want to keep people from damaging. Who all is going with Bruce?

Salos will stay near Penelope and will go if she goes.

Kato will go for sure.

Kato, Penelope and Salos follow Bruce as he shows them the schools and main hall, both of which they have already been to. Then he heads to the outside of town.

"We keep our crops out here to keep people away from the village." He states and leads the group into the forest.

After about 15 minutes you don't see any vegetables or crops.

OOC Which buildings are the school and the main hall on the map? And which location is the crops?

Salos whispers to Kato, "It occurs to me that we never asked them how they responded to the mercs"

He pulls out the squawker, "Bruce is showing us the way to their garden, we haven't gotten there yet, but we're about 15 minutes outside the village so far" He adds the direction they've traveled.

"Bruce, where is the garden? I think it's safe to say our business in the village won't extend this far."

"Ya know Adam is a good leader." Bruce states, "He has a good view of things. But he is also very short sighted."

Leading the group deeper into the woods. "He sent those men away." Bruce stated, "He told them we dont deal is people. I completely understand, its wrong and would set the wrong example of a leader."

"But the money, "Bruce states as he slows down, "So much money, it would ensure our village and out children for a very long time. And im no leader." he states as he turns around with a device in his hand.

"Bruce, you don't want to do this. We have shown you nothing but kindness and respect. If you go through with this, I fear for your mirror and you may be damned to the Dark. It's not too late to change your mind. My friends are strong - stronger than what you've seen - and can protect you from the mercenaries."

Bruce start to look sad, "Im sorry. I messaged them the instant I recognized her." You can see a tear fall from Bruce's eye. "I have to look out for my village. My family."

About that time you hear over the coms. "We got about 10 bogies coming in. Fighter Craft and a Raider. They are coming in hot. We are preparing to lift off to engage." Donavan states. "Boys lock and load, this is not a drill. Repeat this is not a drill."

Salos gives Bruce a look that's a mix of sadness and anger but answers Captain Donavan, "Mercs came through the village about a week and a half ago. Adam, the village leader, turned them away, but Bruce, one of the others, betrayed us. He's sorry, but it's too late now. He alerted the mercs as soon as he recognized Penelope and he's led Kato, Penelope, and myself deep into the woods. Lady Alina and Bada-Gar remained in the village, I'm not sure what Kalas' exact location is." Salos does his best to give their current location. "May the Pancreator save us all."

He returns his gaze to Bruce, "If you are sorry, then help us protect this innocent girl. Start by telling us exactly what that device in your hand is and what you've told the mercs. If you get tempted to continue betraying us, know that these are not the kind of mercs who leave witnesses - they would think nothing of wiping out your village. Our protection is the best hope you and your family have of surviving this."

Overhead you can hear the fighters as they fly towards the villages. Swoosh, Swoosh. Swoosh swoosh swoosh.

About 8 fighters fly overhead. Painted in the blue and white colors of House Hawkwood. And then the firing begins.

Village, Alina and party and see the fighters flying in circles strafing the parameter of the village the explosion's are lighting the trees on fire.

The Zaxxons Revenge takes off and begins to engage the Fighters.

Woods - "Why are they firing on the village. They said the only wanted the girl." Bruce states.

Map should not have shown Kato in the village, Kato is with Bruce as instructed by the Player.

Kalas bursts through the trees into the clearing where the group is. He heads straight for Bruce without slowing down, his axe drawn.

“I swore I would kill the next person who betrays our troupe. However, Salos says you regret your actions. Prove it. Aid us. Your actions will determine your fate if you survive this. If you betray us further or attempt to flee, I WILL kill you.”

To the rest of the group:

“You heard the captain. If we leave the woods, the fighters may spot us. My axe is no use against them, skilled as I may be. Our best chance may be to use the forest. Make them come in after us. Kato, I suggest we take the group deeper into the woods and find a good hiding spot. If they start to catch us, I’ll hang back to slow them down. Of course, I’m open to suggestions if you have a better idea.”

Into the comms, "Pay attention to the markings on those ships. It may look like Hawkwood colors but those are not Hawkwood fleet ships. They are not even empire ships. So we definitely need one alive."

The village is surrounded by fire now as the fighters continue to circle the village strafing the surrounding land. As the Zaxxons Revenge take altitude it starts to engage the fighters. One of the fighters goes up in a ball of flame.

Kalas takes the device from Bruce and smashes it under his boot. He looks at Bruce.

“Well? What’s your choice? Do you atone by penance or blood?”

As Kalas destroys the box, a ship larger than the Fighters strafes the immediate area. Explosions are going off close and one blast his Bruce. Tearing him in half.

OCC: Kalas, Kato and Salos need to make a End + Vigor test vs diff 6 as they are blown to the ground from the concussion.

The Zaxxons Revenge continues to engage the Fighters. One by one the Revenge keeps out maneuvering them and sending them into a spiral of death. One of the Fighters engages the Revenge and instead of shooting it, it slams into the rear of the Revenge exploding on contact.
The Zaxxons Revenge's engines are billowing a thick black smoke and it starts to lose altitude and make a unplanned landing within the surrounding area. I loud crunch can be heard as the Revenge comes to a rest a few miles away.

OOC: Would Alina or Bada-Gar have any idea of what is happening where the rest of the group is? If so, Alina will yell to the children to take cover and hide, and then quickly approach that area. She will be wearing smartsynth, an e-shield and having her Blaster ready.

OCC: That battle is about a mile away from the village. So she MIGHT have seen the Escort land but other than that, the fires in the forest encroaching on the village might be more important. I will let her make a decision on that.

FOR COMBAT Initiative, we will be doing groups. The party, the enemies, based off their faction, will all have one initiative. I.E. in this instance, if Kalos and Kalas Roll lets say a 20  and a 2. Then the player group would have an initiative of 20. And all players in that group need to post their actions and then resolutions will be handled fairly simultaneous. Any Questions?

"Salos. Kalas. Kato. Everything okay?" asks Alina into her squawker as she tries to herd the children to someplace less exposed.

OOC Just a reminder that you've all been blessed, so you get favorable rolls until you succeed at something. I think everyone has forgotten and has already made successful rolls, so maybe you can use it in your next roll? GM call.

Also, Salos could be revived with a remedy + wits roll vs hard resistance + an additional 2 VP (character book, page 192), but he also gets shake it off rolls once per combat round, so just do whatever your character would do.

OCC: yes Kato hit the same guy twice. he is visibly wounded (sorry for not describing that) I need for all party member to announce during attack WHOM they are attacking. Yes you can use a troup coffer WP to become 3 VP which puts you at 8 VP and use 6 VP's to overcome incapacitated, leaving you stunned. Then using 1 WP, from troup coffee I assume, to make the roll normal. A 9 hits, I will assume is Soldier 3 as Soldier 4 is attacking Kalos.

After about 5 minutes Alina and Bada-Gar show up as the Escort is already in flight leaving the area.

Alina will try to note as many details of the Escort as possible. She then enters the area cautiously and start to give first aid to her companions. She has one dose of Elixir which she will use on the most wounded person.

She will also try to heal the wounded enemy soldier (hoping to interrogate him if he's alive)

The solider is in pretty bad shape but still alive. The rest of the part is able to be woken up. They obviously feel like they were hit with mac truck that has been electrified.

"Salos, we need to keep that man alive!" says Alina as soon as her Confessor is awake. "Did they take Penelope?"

Salos comes to and sees Lady Alina kneeling over him. Momentary confusion. Flashback to the soldier swinging at him with a stun baton. He realizes Lady Alina is speaking to him. What man? She asks him a question. "Penelope!" His vision comes into focus and he looks around as he scrambles to his feet. "They must have taken her! There was a leader and five soldiers. I was knocked unconscious by the blast that must have killed Bruce and barely came to before being knocked out again by one of the soldiers. Kato and Kalas must have wounded that one."

OOC Do either Kato or Kalas appear to be bleeding out? What's Salos' current state?

Salos as well as the others take a few minutes to regain full function of their body. (OCC no states affecting them) The solider that was left behind is bleeding, however Kato and Kalas are not bleeding as all their damages were electrical.

OCC: Salos, Kato and Kalas did recall the speech the leader gave as they were drifting between conscious and unconsciousness.

The fires are starting to spread throughout the village and surrounding areas.

All members make a Perception Observer roll vs diff of 6 regarding the Location of the Zaxxons Revenge.

Before tending the man, Salos will move to Kalas and Kato, touch their heads and quickly say a prayer for healing.

Using my Loving Prayer perk, they each regain 8 vitality

"The last time I saw the Revenge, it was being swarmed by fighters. Do you know what happened?"

Salos will remove any visible weapons on the fallen soldier. "Lady Alina, cover the soldier while I treat him." Salos will attempt to stabilize him.

My Merciful Technal gives me +2 goal, my exepedition medpack makes Remedy rolls favorable, and my Doctor's Bag also gives +1. I don't know if Goal Bonuses stack and I didn't specifically declare that I brought my medpack, so I won't argue if I only get the +2 from the Merciful Technal. I will use one WP from the troupe coffer to make the roll favorable, if it's assumed I don't have the medpack.

Remedy + Wits +2 (from medpack) = 13, rolling with advantage

Rolling 9 and 17, taking the 9, success. Gained 9 VP.

Resistance should be 4 and if he's currently unconscious, I'll spend the additional 2 VP to revive him to consciousness.

OCC: So troup coffee is only for WP's not VP's so thats not affected. You do stabalise the solider and pull a Lazer pistol and Rifle from him as well as a Sword and a Frap Stick.

"You and me can dance in the fire." Kato says as he starts sharpening his knife.

"You do not scare me. My light will shine eternally. Pain is only momentary for I will have forever with the light of the Pancreator." He states in defiance.

Kato genuinely laughs. "Sure, everyone says that now. But when your skin is peeled away like an onion, slowly, all while you are kept alive for days...everyone breaks. Everyone. And your defiance is going to make it so much more pleasurable for me." Kato has a look of pure joy on his face.

Salos sighs in sadness and frustration as he recalls the discussion on the bridge of Revenge where Penelope described the mysterious man who met her father one night. "Kurgans...I fear your light may already be completely extinguished."

He resigns himself to what must be done and gives Kato a solemn nod as he stands and steps away. He remembers the Revenge and that they haven't heard from anyone left on board. On comms, "Captain, those of us on the ground have regrouped. We're alive and mostly in one piece, but Penelope has been taken. What's your status?"

"Static..... alive... static... trouble... static... grounded... more static." is what comes over the Com from Donavan.

Finished with sharpening his knife, Kato stands up, facing the prisoner. "Anyone who is squeamish, I recommend going to help search for the Revenge. For those that stand back, if you feel that you must interfere or say something, then I give the same recommendation as for those that are squeamish."

Salos tries to remain stoic.

"I am concerned about the Captain and the others. I had already failed one friend today, hopefully I can help them.  Did anybody see where they went down?"

"Saints! What a mess!" exclaims Alina. "You do your thing, Kato." Having watching people being tortured since childhood, she is indifferent to the prisoner's fate.

She steps out to scan for the downed ship but sees only smoke and confusion.

Alina will ask Bada-Gar to search the village for bodies and then collect them for a pyre, and then round up the survivors and bring them towards the Revenge so they can be looked after.

OOC: Kalas definitely wants to know where they’ve taken Penelope. We know they want her to go on with the wedding, but they’ll have to keep her somewhere in the meantime. Also if these guys have any connection to the Hawkwoods. Plus anything Kato might want.

Kato goes to follow the others.

"I agree, it's definitely someone close to her. The man who led these soldiers acted as if he knows her. There's an angle we haven't considered yet, which is Isaac's family. They were extremely interested in making sure the wedding took place, even being willing to give up contested lands to appease Augustine. If Augustine is pushing for the marriage, he's hiding it very well. Penelope's mother is the only person in her family who actually wants the marriage and she is my prime suspect in that family."

Over comms, "I agree, and I have other thoughts I'll share when we can speak more securely. I wonder if I could get the soldier to say anything more."

OOC Honestly, Salos is very torn right now. He worries about the village, but feels deeply indebted to the Captain and fears for him.

I said it would take 30 minutes. So you are probably around 10 minutes from the village.

To Lady Alina, "I'm worried about the Captain and crew,  but I think I'm much better able to tend to the wounded in the village than help with a crashed ship. We can ask Kato or Kalas to help you."

Kalas will try one more time before he runs. He desperately wants to confirm once and for all that someone from the Hawkwoods is behind this.

“You are strong. I respect that. Tell me if you were sent by a Hawkwood, and give the name, and I will make your death quick. Otherwise, the flames will purify your misunderstandings of the Pancreator and his ways.”

OOC: Same roll as Kato. Should have a couple VP left over from the successful attack. Things moved so quick I wasn’t able to specify moving them to my bank, but I definitely would have wanted to do that. I would spend 2VP to increase goal to 16.
13:04, Today: Kalas rolled 9 using 1d20.  Strength + Impress = 14 + 2 VP = 16 Goal. Success whether I use the VP or not, but I declared it, so if I had them I used them. Will spend however many VP from the roll are necessary to overcome resistance. Any remaining go to bank.

Just in case I can’t post the rest of the day, once Kalas has his answer, he will keep his promise either to mercy kill the soldier or leave him. He’ll head in the same direction the others went, radioing as necessary to keep on track. If he does learn anything, he won’t relay it until back on the ship.

OCC: Kalas had 6 VP's left over from the previous Daunt. He rolled a 4 which gives him 10 VPs to use vs the Soldiers resistance plus stone wall. Lets see how this goes.

Kalas is no good with rites, but he traces the symbol of the Jumpgate on the man’s forehead, as if to wish him a safe journey. He then raises his axe and strikes with such skill that the man feels nothing. He is simply no more…

Over the comms, “This is Kalas. I’m headed to the ship. I apologize for keeping you waiting, Lady Alina, but I’m sure you’ll all agree it was worth it. I’ll say no more over comms. Guide me in, if you will.”

Kalas races off toward the ship with more speed than he knew he possessed.o

While Kato, Salos and Bada Gar work toward saving the villagers and putting out fires, Alina find the Zaxxons Revenge. The crater is about a half mile long and the ship looks to be mostly in one piece. Outside the ship are John and Frank and Gerry. On top of the ship is Vera mostly inspecting the hull.

"Good to see you all made it!" says Alina. "The others are on their way. The attackers took Penelope! Can we take the surviving children onboard and get them to safety?"

Vera look at Aline, "My baby is hurt. She needs some tender loving care. Those monsters hurt her." Vera looks on the verge of tears. "We have to give her some time." Taking a deep breath, "Before she can fly again."

John approaches Alina, "The damage doesn't appear to be extensive but, shes not leaving orbit anytime soon."

Vera kneels down and pats the hull, "Its ok baby, mommas here. We will get through this."

OOC: Let me know when I’m back. I know it’ll take a bit.

While helping with the fire and the kids, Kato will say to Salos privately, "We should definitely tell Adam that all of this damage was the result of Bruce's betrayal."

As Kato, Salos and Bada Gar do their best to contain the flames and save the poeple, it soon becomes apparent that the only course is to save the people as the buildings start to catch fire.

Families are instructed to gather what they can and evacuate. The elders and children start the process of collecting what tools and meager belongings they can and rush out of the village as they watch all their hard earned work go up in flames.

Meanwhile, at the Zaxxons Revenge, Captain Donavan tends to Commander Brown whom broke his leg during the crash. Vera continues to asses the damages and then starts to fix the communications. All the while Frank and Gerry are clearing out the local area of trees and dirt that appear to have buried parts of the Revenge. Although Gerry seems to be ok, Frank has bruises all over his body as well as a closed eye from the swelling. He appears unfazed but is moving a little slower than normal.

In comms, "We can't contain the fires, we have no choice but to evacuate the village. Is the ship able to fly if I find a place on planet to move them? I'll tend to the ship's wounded once we rendezvous"

Salos will speak to Adam, "Do you and your people have any place to go? Perhaps another village nearby you could rebuild in? If not, I'll try to at least find a temporary shelter for you all in the church" Bruce is on Salos' mind, but first things first.

Would Salos know of any church resources on planet that could offer shelter to the children? I assume I have no way to make contact from here

Has Kalas made it to the ship yet? As soon as he does, he’ll want to pull the troupe aside and relay what he’s learned.

Yes Salos would know of places to help the villagers. Places of refuge.

Kalas should arrive at the Zaxxons Revenge witnessing the surrounding area amiss and seeing the crew working on getting the Revenge cleared up and unstuck.

"I understand. I want to help you any way I can. I can offer you shelter within the church and money to help you rebuild somewhere. I'm not sure how quickly we can help you relocate, our ship is disabled and the girl who was with us was captured in the battle."

At the thought of Penelope, Salos lets out a sad sigh and continues, "There's no good time to tell you this, but you need to know that Bruce betrayed us all. He made a deal with the mercs who came through before. He thought he was helping your village. He expressed remorse at the end, but he was killed in the fight."

When Kalas reaches the ship, he quickly surveys the damage and locates Alina.

“My Lady! I’m sorry I took so long getting back, but I was able to get more information from that wounded soldier. I know who is behind this. But Salos should be here. We need to recall the others as soon as possible. In the meantime, how can I help?”

Adam hears the news from Salos and shakes his head. "Bruce was naïve, he never learned the ways of the world. Much to our detriment. We would apricate all the help you can offer. With the vegetation burned away, this place will no longer hide us or our numbers from prying eyes. We will have to review what options we have before a Noble comes to claim us."

"I am sorry to hear about your ship. One of our members used to work at the Agora and worked on ships. He isnt quite as skilled as an engineer, however Im sure he can be of help. Perhaps we should rally to your ship, at the very least it would be a place to stay for the night. There are some larger predators in the area that we should look out for."

"I agree, I'll alert the crew"

On comms, "The village is a lost cause, I'm bringing them to the ship for some kind of shelter. There's one of them that may be able to help repair the ship."

Adam, is there anyone in your crew that is good with guns that you trust?

"Many of our men are lethal with arrows. And I trust them with  my life." Adam states, "Even Bruce."

It takes the rest of the afternoon for the party to get the villagers to the Revenge.

"We should set up a few fires around the perimeter. The predators do not like light." Adam states. "So long as the fires stay lit we will be safe."

While doing that the rest of the villagers are recounting the tales of those lost. 2 adults and 1 child. A few of the villagers are presenting with smoke inhalation and one with minor burns.

Salos will tend to the wounded villagers and crew.

So of the crew, Commander Brown has a broken leg and Frank is bruised all over his body. The rest of the crew only sustained minor cuts and bruises.

Kalas waits for a good time and pulls Salos, Kato, Lady Alina, and Bada-gar aside.

“I was able to get out of that soldier the identity of those behind this attack. It was her parents. Both of them. Apparently, Augustine is assisting those nutjobs in setting up their ‘Caliphate’ in exchange for a regency. And to see the Emperor dead. And is his wife is doing what she always does: whatever pleases her husband. Salos, my friend, I think you’ve been had. I can only imagine Augustine figured we’d have more luck flushing her out and used us. The good news is, they want the wedding to go forward, so she’s likely not harmed. She’s going to be even harder to get to now. And for what it’s worth, I gave the soldier the sign of the jumpgate for safe travels before I painlessly ended his life. It was either that or let the fires take him.”

“Of course, none of this matters if we have no way to get back to Calypso before the wedding. We need to get this ship moving.”

"Good job getting that information, and thank you for performing your task with mercy. It is disturbing news. We suspected they may be behind it, but now we know. The leader of the men who took her said that the wedding must happen, but that she would be a martyr, so they must intend to kill her after the wedding. What can we do now to protect Penelope from them? I agree that we must get the ship moving again."

At whatever point makes sense, Salos will tend to Commander Brown and Gerry. He has favorable rolls from the expedition medpack and +2 goal from his Merciful Technal.

The Villagers and the crew spend the rest of the evening digging out the bottom of the Revenge. Once they have done that Vera is able to do a brief inspection and then they clear everyone away from the Revenge. The engines are brought online and there is a brief sputtering of the engines as the lift the Revenge off the ground in order to extend the landing gear.

Once extended they move the Revenge over to the clearing and set her down. Once lifted off the ground and then firmly placed onto the field. The crew comes back and and begins a detail inspection of the under fuselage.

After about 20 minutes Vera and the Captain meet to compare notes. The Captain approaches the party.

"Do you want the good news or the bad news?" Donavan asks.

Salos sighs, "Let's get the bad news over with"

"She wont be space worthy until we can get her to an Agora." Donavan states.


"But the good news is, we can have her ready for atmospheric travel in a few days." He states.

"That's not too bad."

To the party, "I think now would be a good time to share with the Captain all that we've learned."

Salos tells the captain what the leader and the captured soldier said.

Donavan calls the party together after hearing the news shared with him by Solas.

"So we got communications working again." He states as he rubs the bridge of his nose. "And we got this communication." he finishes as he passes out several data pads with this article.

The father deeply thanks the Rooks that were involved in rescuing her and condemns the conspirators that escaped capture upon her rescue. The Fathers eldest daughter has taken the mission to bring them to justice and will be working deep cover until they are all brought to justice. Any news of their were about will be handsomely rewarder and any proof of their demise will being with it a bounty of 50000 Firebirds a head.

Under the article is a picture of the crew of the Zaxxons Revenge and pictures of all the party members.

"That certainly complicates an already complicated situation. At this point, I don't think we can even contact Abraham. I see a few options here, and none without risk. First, we need a safe place we can operate from - for that, I can reach out to my contacts in the Church to provide us with refuge. Second, I think we need outside help as it's fair to say we can't show our face in public without being attacked. There are a few quarters from which we may be granted aid - the Kurgans are heretics, so the Church would likely want to stop them. Augustine seeks to murder the Emperor, so we might get imperial assistance. Finally, and most risky, Isaac may help us if he isn't in on it himself.

Unfortunately, we have very little evidence for any of this, beyond our own good word. However, we do have one piece of physical evidence - a copy of "Penelope's" autopsy report. How could they rescue a dead princess?"

John shakes his head, "An autopsy report form the family Apothecary. He will make it suit whatever purpose he wants. We literally did everything they wanted." he grabs his data reader and looks it over again and throws it against the wall. "Fucking hell!"

John stands up and starts pacing, "Unless......"

"Unless what?" asks Alina as she scowls at the picture of her in the newsletter. That is not her best side.

John, turns as if in thought and then replies. "Oh yeah. So when Abraham and I communicate, we cant go through the normal means of communications. Mother and Father would have found out and since I have been exiled, it would cause more trouble for Abraham. I never wanted that. So we created our own currier system. Takes a little longer to get messages between systems, however, on planet, its fairly quick. Takes a few hours."

Salos perks up slightly at this, "That's something. Perhaps we can get more information on their plans or at least find out where they're keeping Penelope. Ideally, Abraham could send us some evidence, but...I'm not sure if he'd be up to the task.

Something else has been bothering me - why are we still alive? They know exactly where we are and that we're vulnerable. I can believe the team that attacked us before was focused on capturing Penelope as quickly as possible, but they could have sent an army by now. Sure, the bounty on our heads makes things more difficult, but they could kill us where we stand. It makes me think they still 'need' us for something."

"Because they need a public execution to put all conspiracy charges to rest."

John thinks for a moment, "Of they need something for the people to focus on while they enact thier plans. What sounds more enticing. OH look at us, we are planning a wedding that will ultimately doom us all or, look they did it, they caused this innocent lady to be kidnapped. Kill them, burn then, hunt them."

"I think they want us alive, no I think they need us alive right now." John states after a moment.

"Other wise they would have a capitol ship in orbit carpet bombing this area." Donavan states after listening in.

"We need to crash that wedding. Be awesome to fly a ship right into it."

"That could be exactly what they want us to do. We've been playing into their hands every step of the way. With the bounty on our heads, they know attacking the wedding may be our only option, then they can say Penelope was killed during our 'terrorist attack'. We have to make a move they won't see coming. "

"I'm finding it increasingly difficult to disagree. But for now, we're stuck here. John, see what you can find out from Abraham."

Salos pauses for a minute, thinking. After a few seconds, he shakes his head slightly and slams his fist on the table. "All we had to do was keep Penelope away from them until the wedding and force their hands, but I had to try and stop a war. Now we've lost Penelope and they will start a war that could shake the very empire. I thought I only needed to fear the Hubris that can come from my powers, but look what my Hubris of good intentions has wrought!"

John goes and sits down next to Salos, "The say the Pancreator works in mysterious ways. Whose to say they wouldn't have found us enroute to the floating city in the Byzantium system. Then were would we be, probably dead. It seems that we are where we need to be right now. We have time and, I think this group can certainly stop my family. I'm betting on it."

One thing is, we might be able to recruit Adam and his family. They might want some revenge themselves for having their home destroyed. He told me that many of his men are lethal with arrows. That would be one thing the family would not be expecting. And I'm willing to be that they could get in unnoticed to certain areas.

And from the bar, the twins have quite a number of friends that they can make trouble with.

As Salos listens to John, the grief and anger on his face is replaced with resolve. "Thank you. You're right, of course. We must stop them."

Salos nods to Kato, "Good thoughts, we need more numbers"

Kato will go to Adam and see if he is interested in paying some retribution to the nobles for burning his home and fields down unprovoked.

“I’m wondering if it would be best to let the wedding wedding happen, then take Penelope afterwards, when there’s less security. We might consider faking her death. It might allow her to pick a quiet life and live in peace. The ideal scenario would be to determine how they planned to kill her and let them think they succeeded. But that seems far fetched. Then there is the minor matter of clearing our names. I for one will not allow these heretics to destroy all I have built with their lies.”


“There’s also the matter of what to do with Augustine and his wife when this is all over. They must be made to pay. Personally, I vote for letting Kato have them. I saw what he did to that soldier, and it seems…fitting. It’d also be easier than procuring evidence against them.”

When approaching Gerry and Frank they are working on cleaning up the ship. One of the ladies from the village has been helping them.

Gerry, "Now see this here," he states pointing to one of his scars," is when Frank and I were stuck between an Ascorbite and a Shantor that were fighting. See we had a bounty on the Shantor and the Ascorbite was trying to take out bounty. We just couldnt have that could be Frank."

Frank appears to be less than pleased with the conversation, "I guess."

"Wow you are so brave," The lady states trying to get close to Gerry.

"OK, thats enough," Frank states in a fit of anger. "Dont you see what shes doing Gerry."

"What she wants to hear our stories." Gerry states.

"NO, she one of them Coal Diggers," Frank states, "She going to latch on to you and take all your money, then suck the life right out of you with her fangs. Just like a werewolf."

Gerry gets this look of horror on his face, "HOW COULD YOU." he states to the girl. "Are you a were wolf in disguise. You just want my youthful appearance and my blood. I DONT THINK SO. you just go away."

The girl runs away crying. "That was close call Frank. Women are dangerous." He states with a sigh of relief.

"Gentlemen, we are looking at getting back at the people who burned this village and more importantly, did this to the Zaxxon. Now, I know that you would want a piece of that action, but do you think you could muster up some of your friends to help as well?"

Frank thinks for a moment, "We could ask Bald Terry?"

"No, we own him money." Gerry states.

"Right..." Frank says as he remembers.

"What a about Lefty McLefterson?" Gerry states.

Frank shakes his head, "His name is Greg."

"Well yeah but he doesnt have a right arm, hence his name." Gerry states.

"And thats exactly whey we cant call on him." Frank states shaking his head.
"What about Bob?" he states

Gerry thinks for a moment, "Yeah we can call him. And Drunk Thomas, hes always looking for a fight."

Frank thinks for a moment, "He doesnt get to touch out still though."

"No one does, the crash wrecked it." Gerry states. "and thats your fault."

"Your the one that said if I jump right as we crash landed I would be ok, as you sat in your harness." Frank states obviously a little bitter.

John gathers the party. "So I finally heard from Abraham. Things are definatley amiss. He told me that the normal guards and soldiers have been replaced. The put the usual house and village soldiers to work in the fields and now there are some new soldiers patroling around the house. He says he was told it was to protect Penelope."

"Speaking of Penelope, no one has seen her since she returned. For her own protection. And Elisa has been put under house arrest. Apparently she flipped out on father. Abraham didn't hear it but could hear enough to know it wasn't good. He thinks they shot her or stunned her."

"And finally, they have moved up the wedding. Its in a few days now." John states sitting down.

If the regular guards have been moved off, perhaps their loyalty would get in the way of the whatever is being planned, and maybe we can use them.

Do we have a response from Adam on how many of his people might help?

"Swapping out the guard is interesting, but not surprising. At this point, they can't risk having anybody with integrity around to potentially mess things up.

Moving the wedding up is a definite complication, I only pray that we can get the ship flying in time."

Salos thinks for a minute, then brightens and turns to John, "Abraham probably isn't someone we'd ask to join us in a rescue attempt, but he does strike me as someone who is very good at creating chaos. If he can spend the next few days just generally being a nuisance and creating distractions, that could be very helpful.

Another thing, they've turned out the normal guards, are there any family guards or officers you trust enough to ask for help and could also contact?"

creating chaos is exactly what I had in mind for Adam's people. as wellas any of the twins friends that might join in. chaos and distractions. and if any of the loyal guard join in as well, then we would truly have a wedding party.

"Abraham is good as causing disturbances, yes. I will see if he can be himself but at a 10. Then Ill see if he can get into speak to Penelope and maybe Elise. Maybe if he can speak to Elise we can find out what's going on with the Guards." John states, " Anything else?"

"Could Abraham get us in?"

"And can he give us more details about these new guards?" asks Alina. "Mercenaries? Muster? Kurgans in disguise? Do they speak Urthish and where are they barracked? Guess what I'm asking is, can we infiltrate dressed as guards?"

Guess we need to discuss our plans. or at least exchange what we are thinking. Then we can present it to the Captain and to John.

my thought is that if we wait until after the wedding, it's too late. I think if we engage during the wedding, if Adam's people can cause some chaos and distractions, if the Twins can engage in some chaos and distractions, if Abraham can cause some chaos and distractions, and we go on a stealth mission, then we might have a chance. And if the former guards can help as well, along with us getting some guard uniforms, then our chances are greater.

Yes, it's a lot of ifs, but it might just be crazy enough to work.

"I agree, after the wedding is too late. At this point, any plan is a long shot, but I think your plan is the best shot we've got. A direct attack is almost certain to be suicide."

Adam gets back with the party and informs them he has 15 willing people to assist. Including himself.

John gets back to the party. "Ok so this is a little peculiar. Abraham got back with me. They shoot Elise, she's stable but she spoke with Abraham." he states.

Salos raises an eyebrow with a look of concern, "What did she say?"

"She started questioning Mother and Father when the man, Ardeth Jassim, showed up with Penelope. She was of the understanding that Penelope had been murdered and this man shows up with her. Father and Mother told her that they had to do that to flush her out. I guess Elise stood up for Salos, calling him a good man and he shouldn't have been lied to." John states with a look of sadness. "Then the man Ardeth shot her in the gut. Telling Father and Mother that she was asking too many questions. I guess before Elise lost consciousness, she states she heard father and mother agree with the man."

"There have been some transactions that have been taking place too. According to Elise. She had always dismissed it as errors in accounting. But its in excess of a few million firebirds, maybe even 10s of millions. This would raise their wealth and status quite a bit."

He continues, "I guess Elias has been taking up the slack since Elise is done. Hes been dealing with the day to day issues that Elise would have been doing. He was the one that recommended changing out all the gaurds. Hes been in to see Elise, but has degraded for defying the new order of things."

"I mean hes always been a sycophant, but this is low even for him." John states out of frustration.

Salos places his hand on John's shoulder. "I'm sorry. This has been difficult for all of us, but I can only imagine what it's like for you."

He sighs, "It might have made a difference if we hadn't kept Elise in the dark, but we couldn't risk trusting her."

Salos addresses the party, "Our top priority has to be getting Penelope out, but if we can manage it, I'd like to get Elise out as well. John, do you know if she can walk?"

I agree with getting both Penelope and Elise out.

"Yeah, we can get Penelope out of there. But mark my words, if they are not for us, this blood line ends with her and me." John states, "I give you my word."

You can sign me up for that. And I' sure that Kalas would be in as well.

“Yes. This must end. These people do not care who is hurt, as long as they achieve their desires. I am sorry for Elise. I had her as a likely enemy, but if she acted to defend Penelope, we should do all we can for her. Either way, I have shown too much restraint. Our enemies do not escape this time.”

Donavan contacts the party to let them know that the Revenge will be atmospheric ready with in a few days.

"Should be just in time. We need to confirm the exact time and location of the wedding and secure a skimmer. I think hiring a cap would probably not be a great idea. John, do you think we could trust Tanner? Elise assigned him to us to provide transport for the investigation."

John, "Yeah Tanner is loyal to the land. We just happen to own it, we should be able to persude him. I can have Abraham speak to him. Also, Abraham did say Elise told him of some of the Loyalist to the family, ones that would be ashamed of the actions of our Mother and Father."

"We will have about a Company of people to assist us. Not all of them will be well trained, or equipped. But its something. Elise stated they were holding the ceremony at Fathers house. Select, only the grooms family and the brides family and a priest. Abraham said its to take place in 3 days."

Donavan looks over the group. "We can get us there in that time with some time to spare. If you want to come in via a skimmer, get there the night before?"

"Probably a good idea, but we'll need a place to stay."

OOC I'm sure Salos has been in contact with the local Almatheans over the years. Is there anybody he would trust enough to put the party up for the night and not turn them in?

"I know some Amaltheans in the area, but I don't know if they'd put the entire party up"

OOC can i use my Streetwise Lore to find a safehouse for the night?

OCC: and what town did you want to find the safehouse in?

OOC: the one closest to the palace. (don't know the area)

OCC: the town of Calypso. The one on Augustines land?

OOC yeah, that sounds right.

OOC: Ok so you have the loyalists and maybe Tanner. That would be a question for John and or Abraham.

John, is there a safe place we could stay over night in Calypso, somewhere that we could use as a base of operations to deploy from the day of the wedding?

John thinks for a moment, "I can think of a few. I will touch base with Abraham about it. Anything else you want me to bring up?"

Kato has nothing else to offer on this.

Lady Alina? Salos? Kalas? Bada-Gar?

"Let's see... we know when and where. We're working on transportation and a place to stay. I would like to know if there will still be guests and how many. It would also be nice to have some idea whether Isaac and the groom are involved. Have they been seen around the palace at all?"

"I can ask Abraham what he can find out." John states.

Alina nods with a slight smile. "So many things can go wrong, but that's part of the fun!"

Bada-Gar cracks his two pairs of knuckles behind her. "Heads will roll!" he rumbles.

"Abraham got back with me. They dont have any guests coming, just the families and security. It will be held in Fathers chapel inside the house at 4 pm. He said he was able to sneak Penelopes room. Shes fine but drugged. She doesnt know whats going on. He was going to try to get her out but almost got caught." John informs the group

"He has a few safe houses we can stay at. They seem to be keeping everyone in the dark on many of the specifics. Even the cooks have been given limited information. It looks like its a quite and quick ceremony. They have about 40 of the new gaurds. Abraham states they all have energy shields."

About that time Gerry and Frank enter the room. "Well we got a few guys to help." Frank states.

"We got Quiet Matthew, and Blind Pete and then theres Peg Leg Susan." Gerry states with a shivver.

"She not going to stab you this time, It was just a misunderstanding." Frank states.

"Ok, if you say so." Gerry replies

"Then we got Martin and Henry and Franklin Jones." Frank states. "Yeah thats all of them."

Sounds like it's all coming together, as far as a plan.

We need to meet with the Captain and crew, as well as Adam.

we have 3 teams:

Team A:
The Zaxxon's Revenge, with crew and the twins friends, who will be dressed in clothes similar to Team C.

Team B:
Adam and his people.

Team C:
Lady Alina, Bada-Gar, Salos, Kalas, John, and I

If Abraham is willing to make his own scene, then he is Team D


Timeline:
The night before, Team C will arrive via skimmer and stay in one of Abraham's safe houses.


The day of the wedding (times open to discussion)
at 3:30: Team B will start a diversion.
at 3:35: Abraham will make a scene
at 3:40: Team A will start an attack
at 3:45: Team C will start a stealthy assault into the palace to rescue Penelop and Elise.

We win if they are rescued.

Team A and B: this is not a suicide mission for you. retreat if you get overwhelmed.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Sounds like a good plan, so far as I can tell. We should brief Adam and get his thoughts. John, how many of the family guards do you think might join us?

We need to consider mission priorities and escape plans. In my opinion, our priorities flow in the following order:

1. Rescue Penelope
2. Rescue Elise
3. Rescue Abraham if he wants it, though I suspect he can manage on his own
4. Mete out justice on Augustine
5. Collect evidence against the Hawkwoods if we don't take them out

Even with everybody's help, I don't know if 4 is realistic. We're still outnumbered and probably outgunned. However, if we have a few of Augustine's own children able to speak out against him and testify of his plans for treason, then we can get outside help.

As for escape plans, each team should have the location of a different safe house and only this group should know the locations of all three safe houses in case anybody is captured.

Lastly, given that we're dealing with a cult, we should prepare for the possibility that they have their own Theurgists or Psychics. I use my powers to provide aid and comfort, but others can use them to wreak devastation.
