Places of Interest: The Hedge

DC's architecture was designed largely to confound and confuse invading armies. This detail to this day is reflected in the hedge. A great wall of thorns surrounds the Diamond, though great portions of the Western and Southern walls have been long destroyed or otherwise breached. Within these walls is a massive, curated maze. To those unfamiliar with the paths, it is an easy thing to get lost among the thorns. At the center of the Maze is 'Union Station'. On the surface it is a large goblin Market. But beneath

As the Directional Emperors have remained in power since the city's inception, their influence on the hedge has remained consistent for centuries. The entirety of the Hedge in the DC Metro area is referred to as 'The Great Maze'.

Beneath the surface of the maze is a vast array of tunnels systems that are used to ferry lost to places beyond D.C.

The Northeast: The Crystal Mines

Coloured by the Twin Emperors Gia Farrow of the North, and Carron Farrow of the East, the Crystal Mines are arguably the most beautiful sight in all of the Diamond. Crystals of all sorts can be found here. The most often retain the clarity and appearance of Diamonds, but gems of all types can be found throughout the area. Goblin miners (and some brave lost) make a living out of collecting the riches here and selling them to those who appreciate 'Shiny things'.

Despite it's attractiveness and wealth of riches, the danger is still real. The Crystalline thorns serve as a lure, drawing those who stray too far from the paths outside the walls of the Great Maze. Hedge beasts also viciously hoard the treasures that can be found here. Enterprising lost would take care to come prepared before attempting to plunder the mine's riches.

The Southeast: The Mirrored Halls

Where the Wealth of Emperor Carron and the Passion of Empress Yu intersect, you have the Mirrored Halls. It is said that within this portion of the hedge, you can truly see yourself. The mirrors offer perspective by showing you things about yourself that you may not have known, and offering you things that you didn't know you wanted. It is a dangerous thing, though, to pursue these visions. Truth is a terrible thing to behold, and beauty is only ever skin deep.

The Western Front

The territory of the Hedge that now falls under the protection of the Seasonal Courts is to this day considered an active battlefield. It is called by all local Lost "The Western Front." Regardless of the reigning Monarch, the Western front is bustling with conflict. Goblin and Hobgoblin tribes and gangs vie for territory. Loyalists and Privateers plot to undermine the strength of the Diamond Pact. Some even believe that one of the Fair folk slipped through the cracks, and takes residence there.

The Fifth Fort, the mirror of the Pentagon in the mortal world, is the only remaining holding of the West Court and the primary staging grounds for large Freehold operations that push into the Western Front. It was also once the seat of power for the Emperor of the West. In the modern days of the pact, it is the place where the transition of power between the Seasonal Courts takes place.
