Chiatracles of Urcadia

Name: Chiatracles of Urcadia

Aspects

High Concept: The Wisest Man in Urcadia

Chiatracles is a natural philosopher who has spent his long life studying the world and reading the works of all the great thinkers who came before him. As a result, he has a great store of knowledge that sometimes seems to verge on the magical.

Trouble: An Age of Fear and Superstition

Chiatracles was driven from Urcadia by his enemies, who accused him of trafficking in matters that belonged to the gods and leading the city-state's youth astray. To his sorrow, he has found that other places are much the same - everyone fears a man who seems to know more than he should, and are quick to blame him for any stroke of ill fortune.

Aspect: Honesty Is Its Own Reward

On his wanderings, Chiatracles came to a village where all the children of a certain family were always ill and nothing seemed to help them. Performing a thorough investigation, Chiatracles discovered that the children's mother had been poisoning their food for years. Though the woman begged, bribed and threatened him to keep her secret, he announced it to the villagers. However, the villagers refused to believe that any mother could do something so terrible and instead chose to believe that Chiatracles was a wicked sorcerer who was himself the cause of the children's illness, and they drove him off in a hail of rocks and curses.

Aspect: A Sympathetic Ear.

During the early days of her courtship with Anemia, Katerina sought the advice of wise Chiatracles on whether she should truly pursue an affair with someone so much lower than herself in station. Chiatracles councilled her to follow her heart. This meddling in the royal family matters might later have played a role in his banishment.


Aspect: Master of Potions

When Sophia decided to deal with the gluttonous father, she went to Chiatracles for help. He provided her with herbs that would make the wine and meat even more intoxicating, making it easier to extract his confession.

Stunts

Stunt: A Lifetime of Study. Chiatracles has spent his life reading, experimenting and learning. You can spend a fate point to use Lore in place of any other skill for one roll or exchange, provided you can justify having once made an academic study of the action attempted.

Stunt: Wise Councillor. Chiatracles' sagely advice can set a troubled soul at ease. Once per session you can reduce someone else’s consequence by one level of severity (severe to moderate, moderate to mild, mild to nothing at all) by succeeding on an Empathy roll with a difficulty of Fair (+2) for a mild consequence, Good (+3) for moderate, or Great (+4) for severe. You need to talk with the person you’re treating for at least half an hour in order for them to receive the benefits of this stunt, and you can’t use it on yourself. (Normally, this roll would only start the recovery process, instead of changing the consequence level.)

Stunt: See the Truth of Things. Chiatracles' insights into a situation can border on the uncanny. Once per scene you can spend a fate point (and a few minutes of observation) to make a special Investigate roll representing your potent deductive faculties. For each shift you make on this roll you discover or create an aspect, on either the scene or the target of your observations, though you may only invoke one of them for free.

Katerina

Name: Katrina

Aspects

High Concept: Greatest Warrior In The Making

Katerina has proven to have a great amount of skill as a soldier. Some say that one day she can beat the mightiest among the army. Maybe even bring peace once and for all.

Trouble: Estranged Father

Katerina's father is the king of Urcadia, (or at least a kingdom with a more militaristic society), and a lot of people don't know about the fact that she's the eldest daughter of the king or that they had a falling out. Only her closes comrades and lover would know. Despite her skills in war, she's not as good in politics and she knows she'll never be. However, it doesn't stop her to prove her worth to the king. Often that action tends to lead to more reckless approach.

Aspect: I Will Always Be Here For You

During her days as the eldest daughter of the King of Urcadia, Katerina had an affair with a daughter of the seamstress named Anemia. When she left her family, Katerina only had her support at the time and could always reconcile to her. Something about her support and kindness has always touched her heart.

Aspect: Arbiter of a Witch Hunt

During her time as a soldier, Katerina was ordered by someone higher up to hunt down members of The Path of Harmony. This is due to the fact that the Noble's believe them to be an affront to their religious beliefs and has hired a part of the militia for an extermination. Katerina led the charge and met Sophia, despite her order she let her get away with only heavy injuries.

Fool's Driver:

At one point in her military career, she met Saulas once more and he had ran a bit of trouble again. To which she got roped into. Katerina did not remember much of what transpired or why they were running away mostly cause at the time she was a wee bit drunk from celebration, but Katerina eventually managed to escort Saulas out by procuring a wagon temporarily and driving them out. She unfortunately crash the wagon though, but they certainly evaded whoever was chasing them. Those wagon repairs though we're not cheap.

Stunts

Stunts: Keen Combat Prowess
Whenever Katerina needs to overcome obstacles with Athletes, she can switch it to Fight due to her combat Experience

Soldier's Will:
Her time at the battlefield has strengthen her mind and resolve. Any Will skill needed, she can switch it with Fight

Sixth Sense:
Whenever Katerina uses the Investigate Skill on the aftermath of a fight, she can switch it for the Fight Skill due to years of constant battle, she's seen many that she can almost picture what happened in an aftermath.

High-Concept: Huntress on the Path of Harmony

Sophia is an huntress, deriving true enjoyment from the entire process: the plan, the discovery, pursuit and eventual triumph of the hunt.

She is a fervent believer that everything is inter-connected, that the material world and the spirit world are reflections of one another. The best way to do anything is to work in harmony with the world around her.

I want The Path of Harmony to be a cult of some sort.  (though I don't like the modern negative connotations for the world "cult").  The Path of Harmony advises looking for the big picture before acting... patience means impulse-control.


Trouble: Prophecies of Peril and Praise

She has had vivid dreams all of her life.  Through the Path of Harmony, she's come to believe that these dreams are--in fact--prophetic, and are a call to action.  But prophetic dreams are never clear and concise.

Aspect: Dissonance Demands Disruption

Invoke: the take action, to right wrongs, to cleave to her view of what's "right"
Compel: to force her to moral outrage, to see imbalance whether there is or no, to stir shit up!
This is, ultimately a variation on "Strong Moral Compass".  When she sees situations that are just out-of-whack, she gets emotionally involved.  She can't leave a whacked-out situation alone... She just has to get involved.  Towering arrogance to think she knows what's best?  Oh, hell yeah, definitely.

Sophia had always mourned the loss of her family as a child.  She'd bound herself to the Path of Harmony to help her set aside thoughts of vengeance.   But when she became acquainted with a young woman who's father sold her for bride-price again and again so that he could satiate his boundless appetite, she found herself incensed.

She feasted with the father, plied him with fresh-caught venison and copious amounts of wine. The satisfaction she gained from doing the only logical thing--revealing the father's treachery to each of the would-be husbands--was more than she had anticipated.    If retribution on the perpetrators of her own past could not be gained, she could, at least, act as the hand of Justice.  In this, at least, she would be true to herself, a reconciliation between the Path of Harmony and the need for Justice.


Aspect: Silver-Tongued Storyteller

In her dream, the river ran red while a woman wailed.  Scant vision to follow, but it led her to the River Neda.  The villagers of Petra had accused a rogue charlatan of poisoning the river, but they'd been hiding the truth. Sophia sought out Saulas and convinced him of their deception, then distracted the villagers long enough for Saulas to repair the damage.

Aspect: Fostered By The Forest
Refers particularly to a favored environment (the Forest) and the "folk wisdom" that would be derived from such an environment.

The villagers of Pella had been led to believe that some among them were cursed.  But when he revealed the truth, Chiatracles was driven out and stoned.  He found respite in a dark forest reputed to be haunted.  In truth, Sophia was there, recovering from her own grievous wounds inflicted by Katerina during the scattering of the Cult of Harmony.  Sophia shared some of the hard won wisdom of Mother Green, the spirit of the Forest, as she nursed Chiatracles back to health.

Once per session, you may ask the GM a question about future events, the likely outcomes of your actions, or any other information you can only access through seeing the future. The GM must answer as honestly as possible, but should be vague..

Danger Sense (FC p117)
You have an almost preternatural capacity for detecting danger. Your Notice skill works unimpeded by conditions like total concealment, darkness, or other sensory impairments in situations where someone or something intends to harm you.

It's Just Creative Lying
Acting is just an advanced form of lying. Use the Deceive skill instead of Rapport when performing in an oratory fashion (acting, giving a speech, etc)

Aspects

High Concept: Magical child of nature.

Saulas has always love nature.  He spent hours studying it as a child.  He has gained great knowledge and understand of plants and animals, The weather, fire, geography and The Spirits that live in the world.  Able to interact with them in a way others do not understand.   He also has a sight that goes beyond the mundane.  He can see into the realm others cannot.  See the spirits, as they are part of the world to.  He can interact and change things within the other realms.  A form of Nature Magic.  However it takes time, their are loads of limits.  Also the results are not always as predictable as Saulas would like.

Trouble: A man with a price on his head.

Not everything has gone well for Saulas and one of the reason he keeps moving is others expect to much of him.  His nature magic has limits and does not work all the time.  It seems after a while most villages expect to much of him and when Saulas does not deliver he gets into trouble.  So far he has to his name:-
One Dead chief son.  Three poor harvests.  A dead cow.  A poisoned stream.  A stolen sword.  A spy for enemy raiding party. And six stolen horses.
Two wives he didn't realize he was marrying (cultural misunderstanding).    And three more females that he ran away from because they seemed to want to marry / sleep with him.  It has led Saulas to be more careful what he says and does.  It's also why he is hundreds of miles from his home land and does not wish to return.

Aspect: Kindness is good for the soul.

As a young child Saulas love watching the red squirrel of his homeland.  He learned a lot about them.  He decided to keep a store of nuts they liked.  Why to this day he does not know.  Then the winter of his ninth year was bad and long.  The spring was late and the frost layed on the ground long into the spring months.   The squirrels of the forest near his village where running out of food.  They had already eaten what they had stored.  So Saulas got the store of nuts out and gave few nuts to each squirrel over the spring months.  More squirrel survived because of Saulas near his village than anywhere else in the land.  After this the squirrels treated Saulas as a friend.  He help them with food and learn to communicate with them.

All of this paid of when a raiding party from the north headed to Saulas village.  The Squirrel smelt the torches and understood what a blade was.  They knew these where not people of the village.  A squirrel came to Saulas and signaled danger and humans.  Saulas raised the alarm and the raiders found themselves facing a ready and well prepared set of defenders for the village.  The raid totally failed and Saulas found his kindness had paid off.

Aspect: Everybody should be free to love and live as they wish.

Saulas worked for The king Urcadia.  The King arranged for Saulas to marry Katerina.  Something he did not want do (as he was already married twice).  After meeting with Katrina in private Saulas found out she was not into him at all.  Saulas tried to talk to the King but it was no use so he fled the kingdom with one of the kings prides warhorses.  Katerina seems to have fled the kingdom at the same time.

Aspect:- A time for every activity under the heavens.

Saulas came across Chiatracles of Urcadia while he was teaching some students.  Saulas could not help himself and the two men got into a debate about wisdom, knowledge understandings, superstitions and fear.  Chiatracles one the debate and showed that he was truly a wise man.  However somehow Saulas managed to get Chiatracles to agree their is some use, value and wisdom in Fear and Superstitions.  Not something the wise man would really like to admit to.  The two parted with respect for each others understanding and knowledge but also the way they view the world is different.

Stunts

Replace Rapport with any skill.
Few can talk the hind legs of a donkey but only Saulas can convince it to get up and walk.  Once per scene Saulas can encourage others and help then achieve what they want to do.  He has even been able to do this to himself.

When using lore for healing he gains +2.
Saulas is kind soul and wish everybody well.

Once per scene Saulas can use a skill twice in a challenge.
Lets have another go.  Saulas sometimes just does not know when to give up.
