Character Generation:
  • Roll 4d6, drop the lowest, and then arrange as you please. Boost the highest roll to a 16 if necessary. Max HPs.
  • Choose a keepsake or heirloom for your character and then roll d100.
  • Standard OSRIC starting gold.
  • No race-based level caps. We practice full inclusivity here.
  • When leveling for level 2 or 3, you may reroll once as follows: if you get a 1 on a d4 or d6, a 1 or 2 on a d8, or a 1, 2, or 3 on a d10.
  • No forced interrogation.
  • Should a PC be saved from dying (negative hps), they will enter a d6 turn-long coma upon being restored. If they are restored the round they fall below zero, they will not be subject to this coma.

For those who don't me, I used to teach college-level writing and literature but switched to social work five years ago. Now, I work with a lot of clients coming out of shelters who have SUDs, mental illness, and other chronic medical conditions. I'm currently doing my licensed drug and alcohol counselor coursework with plans on doing that for about 10 years until I retire in my early 60's.

One of the game slots is reserved for a lurker from another game so I have one more decision to make.

Greetings everyone, and thank you to the Infidel for his invitation.

I am male, in my early 50's, live in the southeastern U.S., divorced, with two sons in college. I studied English, Philosophy, and Law in school, and I've been a practicing attorney for 25 years. I also coach travel baseball, and I'm active in men's ministry.

Started playing D&D circa 1980 with my older brother. Red Box then AD&D. Discovered RPoL just within the past year and it has been a lot of fun. Am currently active in three other games, so this will make four.

Looking forward to it!

Edit: My character's name is Vaask. Current settings won't allow me to add that, or else I've forgotten how to.

Hey All.  This is Jack (will update character name once I finalize character details).  Am leaning toward a Ranger at the moment.  Will update my personal background later tonight or tomorrow - am tied up at the moment.

Thank you, Infidel, for the invite!

I am thinking of something a little bit different to try.

Can you tell me where the proficiencies are located?

Well, Moldvay says that this module takes 6 - 10, albeit basic, characters. Ordinarily, I would cap the cast at 6 but I'll go with 7. Even though the players have a variety of backgrounds, they seem bound together by a spirit of public service. I mean the player players, not the characters.

I would have loved to have taken everybody, trust me, but I let the dice speak for the last two.

Pretty sure 7 OSRIC characters > 7 basic characters. Happily, the monsters will be straight from OSRIC.

While I'd love to get cracking, I think it'll be midweek or later for our start.

In reply to Corkman (msg # 6):

OSRIC doesn't have proficiencies, except for weapons, or secondary skills if that's what you're asking.

Don't forget to introduce yourself.

Hi all.

I'm in my early 60s and began playing RPGs before they were a thing but started D&D circa 1980.  I've been on RPOL since 2009 and I love it.  Played D&D to begin with and then skipped ahead (in 1997) to AD&D second edition, which I played for over 20 years after that.  This will be the first time I play OSRIC or first edition AD&D although I think I may have a copy hidden somewhere in the shed of my previous house.

My degree is in *blush* Cultural Studies, which I gained in 1985.  From 1988 to 2017, I worked for the Department of Health in England.  Then I was made redundant and left to become a punk music promoter/musician but now I've retired from that as well.

Looking forward to joining you all.  I see we have a thief and a ranger already so I guess I'm leaning toward playing a Cleric.

Are we using secondary skills?  If so, where are they located?

How many opportunities do we get to roll a characters attributes?

My name is John and I am a retired L.E. officer from NJ & I am 53 years old.  I have been playing RPG's since the early 80's starting with the Basic set and then moving to the 1E hardcovers and rules.  Played a bunch of 2E & 3E and did not like 4E at all.  Dabbled in a bit of 5E and played a bunch of Pathfinder 1E.  I still play in a monthly 1E home campaign which also has a bunch of 2nd & 3rd rules incorporated in it and we enjoy playing in in WEG's Star Wars D6.

I am looking forward to meeting & starting a new group!

--Are we using secondary skills?  If so, where are they located?

No, we are not. There will be no leather-working collectives.

--How many opportunities do we get to roll a characters attributes?

Once. But if you want to play a class and the roller didn't cooperate, you can raise the highest scores rolled to their required class minimums.

Alcuin:

I don't suppose there is anything embarrassing about that.

I had to take, if I remember correctly, a certain number classes with the "multicultural" designation (or was that the "third-world" one?) when I was in school in the early 90's.

When I tried to tell one of my employer's "sensitivity" trainers (they are legion) that I'd been getting these trainings for 30+ years, she wasn't too pleased. Whatever. I know when the same old concepts are getting dressed up in the latest lingo.

Understood, thank you.

The dice roller was actually favorable, today.

Think I'm going to try a Druid

I screwed up the dice roller and it looks like I forgot to use the drop the lowest dice.  I'm going to do it again.

Do druids have access to healing spells?  If not, then I shall remain a cleric but if they do, I shall switch to magic user.

The second set will work. For future reference, it would have been choose 4d6 in the SELECT section and then in the GENERAL section, DROP LOWEST 1 and select the RECORD EACH DIE checkbox.

--Do druids have access to healing spells?
Cure Light Wounds is a 2nd level spell for them.

OSRIC is a freely available PDF.

I would stick with the Cleric PC since Druid healing is at higher levels, albeit 2nd level.

Hello all- I will be joining you, it seems! You have all the other primary classes but mage, so I am looking at an elven fighter/mage, or human mage. It should be nearly complete today.

As for me, insomniac petite powerlifter who does volunteer work and plays with her kitten is a not an inaccurate description. I do have a competition this weekend, so will be checking posts, but might not be responsive.
