Re: The Lost City

“Hot diggetty dog! Well done, Priest l’Atreq!  Even I could feel the surging power of your deity, as it enveloped and drove those Shades off into the nether regions. Glad you are on our side!” Fodor praises the Priest, as he wiped hints of ectoplasm off the pristine long sword.

“Now let’s see what we can find in this Shadows’ lair. Certainly, with so many Shadows in residence, I’m guessing this room, unlike the previous tombs on this floor, has been avoided by others and has not yet been ransacked and defiled by tomb raiders...” ...he leaves unspoken the thought that they could, in fact, be deemed to be “tomb raiders.” Nah, he convinces himself. We are just a humble party of Infidels brought here by Destiny and Fortune to restore this Lost City and liberate its people from oppression! But looting unused arms and gear from abandoned tombs is not a sacrilege - as long as it helps us survive and achieve those noble goals...

The Lord of Divine Words:
This room contains several large tables. Around the walls are a number of large jars and casks. There is a bin in the northwest corner of the room.

Time to examine the large jars, casks, and the bin in the northwest corner that we originally saw and that Orum started to examine in this room before the Shadows intervened.

Re: The Lost City

The jars and casks must have held substances used for embalming, but the passage of time has left these substances, whatever they might have been, decayed beyond recovery. Likewise, the commodious bin opens to reveal naught but rotten linen winding cloths.

"Burn them", suggests l'Atreq, "But be careful not to start a fire.  Things are so dry in here.  I only suggest it because the undead population of this area seems higher than most and perhaps by removing such trappings we make a hostile environment to keep them from returning."

After a pause though he adds, "And of course, make sure we destroy nothing of value by removing it first."

How to burn them without starting a fire? Do you mean without letting the fire spread?

Re: The Lost City

V had nothing that could affect the shadows, but had stayed in place. In this case, better they target her than one of the clerics who had a chance to turn them. Fortunately, that attack never came with l'Atreq's quick rebuke of them.

With thing settled, and searches begun, she cautioned, "I agree with the burning, and yes, look through the linens thoroughly before setting the torch to it. For some odd reason, people seem to hide cloaks and other clothing in very odd places. The same with the embalming substances- let's be sure there is nothing buried within." She thought a moment, and added, "Are any of those chemicals highly flammable? Perhaps they could be used as oil."

Re: The Lost City

There is nothing but ashy residue in the jars and casks. If the outfit wishes to take up embalming, it will have to find supplies elsewhere.

Having been advised to look through the rotten linens carefully, l'Atreq finds a stoppered vial tucked within a pocket of rags, its contents nearly colorless. After carefully setting it aside, he digs deeper within the bin and discovers a hard surface. Clearing the wrappings away unveils a chest that had been hidden within the bin. Unhesitatingly, he calls for Orum to take over who performs his duties to his usual satisfaction before opening the chest to reveal a trove of gold, 3000 pieces in all after the counting's been done.

While the rags are set alight and l'Atreq examines the bin's structure, Víxl suggests, "That is a considerable sum. Rather than drag it along with us, maybe we should take it back upstairs for safe-keeping."

Replying to Orum, "This is not treasure left buried with the deceased in a coffin. Someone deliberately hid it in the linens, which means someone would want to come back for it. Even if the one who put it here is no longer alive, with the shadows dispatched, it is not a stretch to believe someone else could explore in here." She looks the group over. "After all, how many waves of people have entered recently just from our own lost caravan? There are a few from there I would be happy not to see again. So safely tucked away upstairs is better."

Re: The Lost City

"No, we still have more to explore, and dangerous things could be wandering the corridors. Plus, it would make no sense and take more time to go upstairs just to inform the sisters, then bring them back down here to show them the chest that they would just bring back upstairs, as opposed to grabbing the chest and bringing it upstairs ourselves. It is not as if it is a loose pile of coins that needs to be bagged and hefted. It's in a chest. Besides, once it is secured upstairs, it can be temporarily emptied, and the chest searched for a false bottom."

(ooc)
And moreover, that amount and the fight with the shadows might be enough to gain a level for someone close.

Also that is post 1000, which the thread box says is the limit.

Yes. Taking it upstairs. I’m loathe to split up, but if anyone doesn’t want to come, that’s fine. We can try to meet up when we get back.
