Re: OOC#2

Tomba- possibly- but the helm of telepathy (which does not mention ESP at all) already is considerably more powerful than the spell, so there is no practicality to be lost. ESP only allows the reading of surface thoughts, but the helm allows two-way communication, empathy, and implanting suggestions, as well as reading thoughts. The helm is also harder to block than the spell. (FWIW, I think they added telepathy as a spell to later editions of the games, and placed it at 5th level.)

But I agree- while we could go back and test it now... let's not. ^_^;

And as for fighting, well, you would have hated our first encounter with the dervishes. *L*
V's rule of thumb is more to avoid combat when we can- if they do not attack us, or seem likely to do so due to situation, allegiance, or known traits, she is fine avoiding combat whenever possible.

As for Easter eggs, no doubt the lyrics mean something, but I doubt they are referring to 'As you believe' by TOHOSHINKI, and that is all that comes to mind.
Likewise, there was a children's game show in the 90's called 'Masters of the Maze', but that also seems unlikely.
I have no idea what Kordan might mean- perhaps someone else does?

On the other hand, 'We saw the sign, the sign of Tempura, and it opened up our eyes' pretty clearly is a variation of Ace of Base's 'The Sign'.
But I have no idea why tempura is substituted in there, other than that they wanted to eat us. (None of the PCs come from an Asian heritage that I know of, although at least one player is.)

Vixl has found 2 of 3 or 4 eggs.

Re: OOC#2

I understand it was the T in NU'EST, but it struck me as odd, since tempura is Japanese, but the band is Korea. Tteokbokki would have fit better.
So I was wondering if it had a second, additional meaning beyond the acronym that was its own Easter egg, since there are some we apparently have missed.

Tomba Cotton:
My assumption is that magical items would appear magical to the mage that cast the spell.  They don't glow as such, so everyone else would also know they are magical.

For this edition, it says the caster detects the magic radiations, not that there is a glow, so the rest of us are blissfully ignorant. Hopefully we can trust the caster not to mislead everyone! *L*

Also in this edition, nearly all magic swords (sole exceptions are the Flame Tongue, Frost Brand, Holy Avenger, Life Stealing, and Sharpness swords) and all magic daggers shed light when drawn from their scabbard- but that seems to be nearly always house ruled away.

DM- what type of sword is it? Long sword?

In reply to Vixl (msg # 756):

The punning works with tempo and tempura but doesn't with tempo and Tteokbokki.

It's a two-handed sword.

Re: OOC#2

When we are talking a honeycomb of potential spear traps in the wall, are we talking hundreds, thousands, or more like tens?  Does the caster see where the 4 spears that have been fired have come from, and if so, do those holes still ‘glow’ as traps or do they now look mundane in nature.  Ie does it appear that the spear traps reload.

--Honeycombed. Like cheesecloth. More numbers than Tamba can reckon. The entire wall glows.

The spears could have been shot out of any number of holes.

There is no way to know if the traps reload or not. However, it would not be classified as a trap if were unloaded.

Do the traps also appear up above the 30 foot high ledge?  My thinking is potentially the ‘off’ button for want of better terminology might be up there.

They are everywhere.
Description:
A 3-foot wide ledge runs around the base of the dome.

Is there any pattern on the floor, does the chest appear to be on an area of floor any different to the rest of the floor?
No.

Just looking for clues, that we might find by asking, but they might just as easily not exist.  It’s not looking too promising, but luckily Tomba not smart enough to consider that option just yet.
Understood. The four skeletons are reasonably close to one another but they are pinned at various elevations.

If a skill has a potential consequence for failure such as Find/Remove Traps or Hear Noises, please leave the roll(s) for myself to make.

It wasn't rhetorical, I'm trying to sort out the DMing rules in several new games that I joined at around the same it as I joined this game, though your answer makes it obvious now.

Re: OOC#2

Generally, I prefer not to make the rolls although sometimes I will in the name of expedience (such as ongoing damage from a spell).

Another case would be for Find/Remove Traps.

If the chest is trapped and a player fails her roll, she shouldn't know that she has failed. She should still be in the dark.

Another case would be for Augury.

I suppose there are others as well.

Re: OOC#2

I'm use to playing find/remove traps as 2 different actions requiring 2 different rolls which is possibly where the confusion has started.

Tomba:
Tomba Cotton rolled 11 using 1d100 to find a trap needing 40% or less.
OOC:  If there is a trap the move to open will be delayed until LoDW posts whatever he will for the outcome of removing.

I might be wrong but I think we're just approaching things differently but I have done what you previously asked.

He passed the find trap roll, and that is the sort or roll where the outcome would be obvious to him.  What I didn't make was a remove trap roll.

You know, I think you're right. I'm not sure that it matters with Find and/or Disarm Traps in the way that it could with Augury.

Carry on making those rolls. Sorry for fussing.

Re: OOC#2

No worries.  I'll be role playing it the same way whatever the remove trap role is, because as you say he's not going to know that he wasn't successful even if I know the roll would indicate he's failed.

is the compass rose in front of the corridor with the secret door we entered, or is there another exit from here?

No other exit. With the rose, you can tell that you entered the stone drop dome from the west.

That's a random yet fun way to play it, I like it.  There's a chance of survival, and also a chance to really screw yourself over.
