Gameplay Notes + RTJ + World and Setting Information

Gameplay Notes
Though this is a Call of Cthulhu adventure, I'm streamlining the gameplay as much as possible for the PbP format. There's no need to specify skill or ability rolls; simply describe what your character does and what their goal is. Often, no roll will be required; sometimes I will roll for you; and only when the moment is particularly vital will you need to roll yourself. (If you think a roll is coming, you can always include a roll with an action "in case," by the way, but don't feel you have to.)

Generally, I'll wait for all investigators to post an action before writing a response, but if an investigator is doing something small and quick (like peering in a closet) I will provide a brief response as soon as possible. Conversely, if an investigator is engaged in a relatively long-term action I'll post past them until they're finished, something interrupts them, or they specify a new action.

Try to post at least a few times a week; I can update on a nearly-daily basis. Let me know if you think you'll be away for a while and I can play for you if you give me some pointers. As long as we all stay consistent, I think it'll go great!

Feel free to PM me any time, but be warned: I can be chatty.

World Information
The year is 2022.

Cthulhu remains dreaming and humanity is, as a whole, blissfully ignorant as to the true nature of the cosmos.

RTJ text:

Anyone interested in invited to inquire! Though the "Sanity as Courage" is somewhat experimental, it is overall a fairly typical, if fast-paced, Call of Cthulhu game.

RTJs need only include a character or character concept using the following rules:

-Typical CoC 7th character generation. However, the characters and locations are fairly specific, so certain skills (such as Credit Rating) are less relevant to this scenario than a traditional investigation.

-The setting is ostensibly modern day, though that won't be a major factor.

-Characters must be women, roughly 15-20. They have been hunted down and chosen by a sorcerer for certain characteristics: youth, beauty, and purity; though what these mean specifically is ambiguous.

-The investigators begin as captives, with nearly no possessions at all. In terms of character inventory, select a more or less "everyday" outfit and whatever small items or accessories they might bring with it. Generally, their captor stripped them of most useful gear, such as wallets, phones, pocketknives, etc. Feel free to include them on the sheet but be prepared to lose them at the onset of the adventure.
As characters do have their clothes, it might be worth including a description of them--they might come in handy.

-Characters must be played well! This is high-RP adventure where the characters very much inform and shape the outcome, of which there are roughly a dozen scripted possibilities and likely many player-generated possibilities.

-No particular experience with Call of Cthulhu is required: a read of the Quickstart Rules should be more than sufficient to play the game. In fact, knowledge of the gameplay rules themselves are largely unimportant: merely describing what your character does will prompt skill checks if needed, and in fact that style is vastly preferable to explicit ability check requests. (In keeping with 7th edition form, many actions with no significant negative outcome do not require checks at all!)

-This is a trial play of a pre-written adventure. A willingess to play through to the end and then share your thoughts on the experience would be greatly appreciated!

Once you have your character/concept, send them along! The idea character fits the above requirements, but has their own personality and story, such that they feel alive and interesting. There is no tension in the story if the characters are unlikable and uninteresting!

To keep the game moving quickly, we are going to have a cap of three investigators. Posting daily or near-daily is ideal!

The initial investigators will be chosen on some combination of first-come, first serve and the details of their character. Thoughtful, interesting characters earn a priority! If you're interested after the initial spots are filled, let me know! PbP games often have high turnover rates and we might need new players quickly. :)
