[OC] Combat: Guidelines Best Practices

So, for this combat (and every one that follows), I want to emphasize a few things.

We will roll for initiative, but I will assume everything in a round happens more or less at the same time, and use initiative only when it's necessary. Everyone should post when they can, as they can, in whatever order.

Please remember: Ask Forgiveness Rather than Permission. Don't delay your turn to ask me something about the environment or the rules unless you really have to. Anything like "Is there something to hide behind" or "Do I notice X" or "Do I know about this monster" or "Am I far enough/close enough to do A or avoid B."

Any of that, just look at the situation, take your best guess and post it, even if that means you 'round up' in your favour. That's totally fine. Make a Perception or Lore check to guide your thinking if you like. But make the post anyway.

I feel you need to, feel free to post the logic you used to come to your conclusion in your post. Or in the OOC. But still make the post. I'll manage corrections as they're needed.

Don't correct other players mid-round. If you see them misinterpret a rule, forget something important, whatever, let it go until the round is finished. Then bring it up if need be. Correcting someone mid-round inevitably leads to delays as we all discuss what to do about it. If you see something egregious and it just can't wait until the round ends, PM me with it. I'll decide what to do about it.

Don't panic about any of this. Anything can be fixed as we go along. It's way faster and easier for me to retcon stuff and work it into the round summary as a single process than it is to discuss individual things in the moment.

Pretty much anything you can do to avoid delaying your post is worth it.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about any of this. It's counterintuitive, and not at all the way most of us are used to playing. So it might take some getting used to.
