Talk about Fallout

I've never actually played the game.  I'm aware of the generalities, and I've seen ongoing gameplay (maybe an hour or so in, IIRC, New Vegas), so it's not completely unfamiliar, but don't expect me to know the lore (just like someone who spent however long -- 75 years? -- in cryosleep won't know anything about the way Greater Boston has changed decades after a major war).

Yeah, it'll probably be helpful to not know a whole lot of lore going in. Helps take away some of the stress from separating OOC knowledge and IC.

I've played all the main entries. None of the little ones like Tactics or what have you. New Vegas was my favourite. I also liked 1 quite a bit. Really like the tone in them & felt they had some of the stronger writing in the series.

Talk about Fallout

I’m playing fallout 3 right now along side fallout 4 to refresh my memory. I’ve only played 3, NV, 4, and literally 20min of 76 before I threw it in the trash. I liked each for different reasons. I play 4 the most but NV is my favorite. 3 is really cool though I love the setting and look of the game. The NPCs felt more real too.

I don’t hate 4 at all though, while Bethesda should have kept the game more gritty in my opinion I do like the factions and locations. Far Harbor was excellent in my opinion. It just felt a little to comedic/cartoony in my opinion

Talk about Fallout

It must be very difficult to make games for such a beloved franchise and to try to appeal to such a varied audience.

A buddy of mine is the kind of guy who turns on all the wacky stuff in New Vegas and runs around dressed like Elvis with a golf club.

I prefer the more gritty feel.

2 is probably my favorite, the one that really got me hooked.

Talk about Fallout

I've played Wasteland, Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and Wasteland 2.

Technically, most of that isn't canon to Bethesda's Fallout universe (W1, F2, FT:BoS, W2)... and Wasteland 2 is canonically another universe from F1 despite Wasteland 1 being 'spiritually' in-canon for Fallout 1.

1 and Tactics for me, though 2 is close contender with Tactics.  But I'm an old school 'turn-based strategy' games guy, so go figure.

Fallout 2. I enjoyed 1. And Wasteland rocked. Wasteland 2 was alright, still mainly in the spirit of the original. Didn't really think much of Fallout 3. Brotherhood of Steel was neat as a Fallout oriented mil-sim type of rpg. New Vegas was a great take on the NCR, but like Fallout 3 it just lacked the old school feel. Fallout 4 had one of the best original story arcs, but it still didn't feel like old school fallout to me. Its kind of like comparing the original Star Wars to what came after. It still in the same setting, but it just lacked that sense of gritty despair we came to love. Honestly, I feel the same about GURPS 4th ed. its kind of like 3rd edition but just not the same experience.

That's a fine place to be in.

For the way the world is "pre-fall" imagine a 1950's Americano mindset with 1970's Cold War politics.  Mix in an Atomic Deiselpunk aesthetic, and you're about there.

So while there is a "war on", most USA Americans are doing okay.  We invaded both Canada and Mexico after those dirty traitors invade us (propaganda for the win!), and put them in their place right quick.  There is worry though that the ChiCom Red Menace is gearing up to try to take teh Alaskan Oil fields (which Russia tried to do but our Brave Boys put Ivan in his place!), but with the new T-50s rolling out (atomic power armor), the public has no fears about the dirty ChiComs getting our oil.

So life is pretty good for most citizens in the US, small home, white picket fence, atomic auto in the drive. The family is the backyard playing ball (or the living room watching the gigantic 30 inch Radiation King television) while the brand new Mr Handy is making dinner.

Grandma Luta wouldn't ever let us get a Radiation King.  Said it'd fry our brains if we sat too close...  She didn't like television much anyway.  Didn't need it back in Rwanda.

I've been to rwanda once during the 2nd congo war, during 1998-99 as a private military contractor, mostly training and HUMINT development. flew into the capitol, kigali, too the train the boarder with the democratic republic of congo. reversed that order when i left. saw a lot of small villages with names i had a hell of a time pronouncing most of the time. it is uphill, both ways everywhere you go there. is there anyplace in rwanda that isn't uphill?

No combat experience, but in Navy as a Technical individual. Understand GURPs pretty well, but no Fallout knowledge though.

I've only played Wasteland 1 and Fallout 1 and 2.

I've watched some of the Fallout "movies" from the games on Youtube. Was very very tempted to pick up the Modiphius 2d20 game, but glad I did not.

To those who have served or are serving, thank you!!!

I have no real combat experience. The closest are biathlon and fencing experience. I also don't know Fallout, while I'm pretty familiar with GURPS.

Boris, technical in the navy? I've got a cousin in the navy who now serves on contractors' sites, having done his masters in physics, focusing in ordnance.

I've played through Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4 several times each. Only played through Fallout 1 and 2 once or twice each, so my knowledge on those is more limited.

No experience with GURPS, on my end.
