Other conventions:
The idea I had was that things of the Soil are masculine, and things of the Water are feminine. When the soil and water come together, they form life. That was part of a cultural root I was going with.
Things that are not neatly categorizable would fall under the neutral. A homestead city or farm is neither masculine nor feminine. The abstract of a forest and everything in it might be neutral and all encompassing, whereas a single large great tree landmark might be referred to in the feminine.
A neutral third form featuring soft consonant endings can be used as well, with a lot of 's' endings.
Examples of Neutral:
Gurunes, Kurranis, Tholes, Gural, Guranul, Turnal, Kurunel, Thiris, Fethis, Rukunes
