Season 1 / Arc 2

OOC: FYI just in case I hadn't before, but I declare Porter to be Connor's current Quarry.

23:30, Today: Connor Johnson rolled 3 successes using 7d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s.  Cunning+Subterfuge.

23:34, Today: Connor Johnson rolled 2 successes using 6d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s.  Manipulation+Subterfuge.

between his rolls and the +1 enhancement from quarry, Connor passes both difficulties.

Connor's natural skill in disguises and shenanigans is only further reinforced by his Pantheon's familial disposition to being in disguise and getting involved in shenanigans! He manages to not only only retain his disguise as an old man, but he sure looks and sounds like one too.

"Don't you try and deflect things, you young whippersnapper! I know you set that poor young man up to take a fall. A lot of people been talking about it, you know. So I decided to look closer it it, you know? And it reeks of corruption! Now, back in my day men got by doing good, honest work and living!" the old man said, as he pointed accusingly at Porter. The poodle nearby looked on, apparently a bit confused about what was happening (although not really).

Season 1 / Arc 2

Episode 4 / Scene 2
Friday, 12 July 2022 / Chicago, Illinois, USA

Fooled by Connor’s disguise, Porter decided that the old man was more an annoyance than a threat.

-You seem to know much, he said with a short laugh.

He suddenly draw a pistol from the drawer. It was a beautiful weapon, gold plated with wing like gravure. And Connor was pretty sure the weapon was not for show.

-Maybe you would like to share what you know and who told you, Porter added.

[Momentum: 1/4 - Tension: 2/4]
OOC: He score 2s to resist influence, so 3s with the enhancement, you win. Since he don't see you as a threat he didn't call his guards and they would come only after two turns of combat.

Season 1 / Arc 2

The old man was taken aback when Porter drew a gun on him, although held his ground. The poodle seemed oblivious.

"Oh my! I just got into the room and here you're pulling a gun on little 'ol me. Young man, don't you know that guns are for hunting for food and for legitimately protecting yourself? They certainly ain't for pointing at harmless old men on a cane. Shame on you!" he said.

"But I will not back down. As for what I know? I know that a lot of your relics, items, and baubles here were acquired by you and your father through ill-gotten means. Everyone knows that, though." the old man continued.

""But in particular, I'm here about that gold comb case. Because not only did you swipe a several-hundred year old comb that belonged to a Mexican victim of conquistador violence and add it to your gallery or what have you, but you also used it recently to defame an innocent Mexican security guard - and of course ripping off the security firm that he worked for too from all that legal action you took. You told the world that young man had stolen your comb, except you've had it all this time! I know, because I was told by a very reliable inside source that you stashed it there in your safe! You know, the one behind that picture over there!" the old man continued, pointing incredulously at the painting on the wall across the way where the safe was hidden behind.

"That comb is right there, right now, in your "hidden" safe, That's why the police couldn't find it when they did their investigation!"

00:20, Today: Connor Johnson rolled 1 success using 6d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s ((6,4,1,8,6,3)).

I declare his quarry bonus for 1 enhancement, and his Streetwise specialty from culture for another, since he's claiming he's heavily implying he learned things by relying on "connections" and "inside guys" and that sort of thing. So that allows him to just barely get the 3 he needed. Although I equally could declare his empathy specialy of sensing motives to lean into Porter's natural suspicion a bit too (I mean he pulled that gun fast lol). Either way, he makes his 3. And this whole part of the plan relies on him going over there and opening the safe, so it's really important!

Porter laughed.

-Look like you are not as well informed you think you are, he said. I don’t have this Comb anymore, it was truly stolen.

The man smiled.

-But if you wish to see for yourself.

Porter backed away toward the safe and opened it while keeping his gun trained toward Connor. His smile turned into an expression of surprise when the door opened to reveal the Comb.

-What the fuck! he said, completely losing his focus on the disguised old man.

Season 1 / Arc 2

The old man looked smugly vindicated. Innerly, Connor took total advantage of the fact that Porter lost focus on him to get a chance to say more for the hidden camera. With this last bit, the man's reputation was ruined while Venegas' would be redeemed.

"Ha! I told you! Corruption!" the old man said, pointing at the safe and Porter in an accusatory manner.

"So that means all the things I heard from my various sources was true then. That you are the one who actually stole the comb from yourself, frame Venegas the security guard, and then told the world it was stolen and lost while you had it stashed away all this time!" the old man said.

"You let that poor young man's reputation get dragged through the mud, all because you thought that since he was Mexican that no one would care, so that you could also scam the security firm he worked for for legal reparations and free services. Especially since the comb itself was a stolen relic that actually belongs to the descendants of conquistador victims. Oh yes, I know all about the fact you and your family before you traffic in many stolen relics that were taken through illicit means. You're dirty and rotten, Porter. You, young man, ought to turn yourself in to the police or at the every least apologize to all of your victims."

And with that, while Porter was still trying to gather his wits, the old man - now no longer hobbling at all and moving at Connor's normal speed - quickly opened the door behind him, slipped through, and closed it swiftly behind him. The Poodle had followed this in an seamless, sinuous singular motion as well. There was the guard out there who was getting distracted by Galya, whom Connor silently signaled for her to turn around and retreat into the crowd of the Gallery. The plan was when he had to exit, she would exit a different way and thus avoid implicating herself as having any connection to him or what happened. She understood immediately what was going on, and stopped the guard and told him she had to go power her nose in the ladies room, and she took off the opposite direction and blended into the crowd and ultimately would exit a different part of the Gallery.

As he did so, the shadows around him depend while his presence in the scene seemed to...diminish somehow. He was there, his his sense of presence suddenly unnaturally decreased in an unnatural but subtle way. For Connor had wrapped himself in an invisible blessing of the Darkness Purview that muddled people's perception of him somewhat and enhanced his attempt to slink away!

00:25, Today: Connor Johnson rolled 1 success using 9d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s.  Primary Pool. –

00:25, Today: Connor Johnson rolled 1 success using 7d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s.  Dex+Subterfuge.

Connor is taking this opportunity to scoot. If Porter tries to follow after him, the guard tries to notice him, etc he and Fluffy are coordinating together and slinking away, melting into the crowd and exiting the building and from there, vanishing into the hustle and Bustle of Chicago.

Connor gets 1 base success. Fluffy attempts teamwork to aid him, which gives him 1 enhancement. I also claim his streetwise specialty to help him blend away. And finally...to top it all off, his blessing marvel grants him 2 more enhancement. For 4 successes total. Note that I don't believe he is pushing the 3 enhancement soft limit since his specialty is a "natural" sort of enhancement, one of those rare ones we discussed shouldn't count, like scale etc.

He imbues 1 legend for a blessing marvel for the scene.

Season 1 / Arc 2

OOC: Sorry for the delay. Was one of those things where I thought I posted but didn't as my head has been up my rear lately.

Connor first double-checks his recorded footage, and edits out anything that would be overtly supernatural or otherwise identifying. Part of his vengeance in this case is letting his reputation get smeared through the mud, as well as potentially having legal repercussions on a mortal level, and thus Connor didn't want extraneous things to be included that would take away from that focus.

He also made sure to cut Galya out entirely to preserve her as well, just in case, to make sure she stayed anonymous.

He also cut out what happened after he left the gallery too, and blended into the city. That was extraneous.

Mainly, the footage was an old man with a poodle who sneaks into Porter's office, accuses him of corruption, followed by having a GUN pulled on him despite appearing as a defenseless old man, and of course the big reveal with the vault and the comb, followed by the old man commenting about Venegas and his security firm were victimized and that it not only was a legal and fiscal issue but possibly a racist one, and he dropped mention that many of the relics and objects in the gallery were acquired through illicit means, and then as Porter was finishing freaking out the old man slips out and leaves the Gallery, possibly concerned for his safety.

So yes, Connor was happy with the footage and the story it told after he tweaked it, and thankfully he only had to edit it lightly since he was fairly careful of his actions while disguised. And he leaks it to the internet on several venues AND to multiple News outlets, rather than the Police directly. In part to help preserve his own anonymity and partially so the word gets spread around and it can not be covered up.

This Pandora's box wasn't getting its lid put back on, not even with Porter's connections and money.

I declare a streetwise specialty from Culture, which you may have noticed earlier was subtly being used when the old man was adding in some accusations that Connor knows would resonate with people at all strata of society, like he played the racism card, the corruption card, and so on. This yields 1 enhancement, which means he just barely makes his 4 successes. Thank God, because otherwise I was going to spend a legend for a feat of scale and I'd rather not if I can avoid it at this juncture (there will be times for that later, rest assured lol).

Note his die pool was 9 instead of 7. This is because I spent momentum to reinforce his Egotism virtue, which granted 2 dice (1 for momentum, and 1 for reinforcing a virtue). However, this slides connor toward the Egotism side of his Virtue track and if he reinforces Egotism again, he will go into  a Virtuous state...for good and ill alike. I also feel that this whole sub-plot, which became much more involved than I was expecting, really embodied Theoi style Egotism as well for the whole "over-reaction punishment" Connor did, and his convoluted plot.

So please expend his point of momentum.

But with the bone flute on the desk of his hotel room, Connor’s little stay in Chicago was at end and he was needed in the forest of New Tegea to deal with a monster.

Season 1 / Arc 2

OOC: Oh that's right! I thought that reset between the legend arcs, but I may be wrong. And I'm all fine with being Virtuously Egotistical, lol. Fun times ahead. There will be lots of momentum and complications arising from this, I suspect. Haha. :)

Connor had definitely went overboard with his punishment, but boy was it good! And it wasn't like he actually framed a truly innocent man. Just one who was mostly bad. Which meant what he did was mostly-good, yes? Well of course it was good. How else could it be anything but. Everything Connor did was good and perfect and elegant and...well, perhaps not elegant. Now THAT would be being Egotistical, and Connor certainly wasn't.

...until he was, anyway. And boy was he riding the high. His very legend was rippling from all of this, and it felt good. Connor had enjoyed punishing Porter. And he would make sure those he helped and served knew to be grateful, while those he had to hunt and punish knew fear and suffering. For he was Virtuous. Virtuously Egotistical, that is. Just like his divine family of yore sometimes was. And their blood ran thick in him, after all.

He sent some texts to Venegas, his fiancé, and even her sister and told them to check out the news. Assuming they hadn't already seen the footage online. He then made sure to mention that they ought to say a prayer to him at bedtime tonight, for Today's Divine punishment - as well as Raphael getting his life back - was due to the intervention of theirs truly. And to say one of thanks to the gods as well.

He let everyone rest a bit, and that afternoon they headed out. Because there were still problems in the Forests of New Tegea. No, in his Forest, around his city. Forces were there that were making a mess, which naturally meant they were asking to be hunted down unceremoniously as well. Eventually. All in good time though. First thing first, he needed to check up on the the Native reservation that was there as well as the granny there who had recently made such a good impression on him.

It was time to head back home. Or lat least, to the outskirtks of his home, and get his house in order.

Season 1 / Arc 2

Connor began inspecting and casing the scene, looking for any additional or hidden clues that he could to find a lead on the Wendigo and those missing kids. He had to show them all that he was capable. The gods, the people, the supernaturals, the monsters, and especially himself. And virtuous as he was right now, this was doubly important to him! And connor's inchor seethed at the prospect of looking for clues and facts as his inner judge mingled with his inner hunter, which allowed him to sense things more than a normal human would as well.

Fluffy also began sniffing around, absolutely intent on helping his master any way he could. For while he was certainly not virtuous in the sense his scion master was, he absolutely was driven to help him with an urge only a dog would understand. Well, an intelligent, magical hell dog that is! The dog stayed away from clues that Connor obviously noticed himself, and used his pack-mentality to instead look for anything extra that his master had not found right now.

22:31, Today: Connor Johnson rolled 3 successes using 4d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s.  cunning+Survival. – 3 successes

This is an ideal roll, as it perfectly soft-capped his enhancement. 3 base successes + 2 from Fluffy's sniffer + 1 from casing = 6 successes.

I presume this is a procedural per page 74 of origin (correct me if I'm wrong). With that said...

*Spend 1 success to buy off base difficulty to find the base lead.
*Spend 1 success on an extra clue.
*Spend 2 success on interpretation stunts, allowing you to provide me with additional information on both the main lead and the extra clue.
*Spend remaining 2 successes to create a +2 enhancement later in the scene on a roll that somehow can benefit from finding these clues, or knowledge of them, etc. Like maybe another attempt to find the kids, or something about the wendigo, etc.
