Season 1 / Arc 2

Episode 1 / Scene 1
Thursday, 7 July 2022 / New Tegea, Michigan, USA

Four days had passed since the attack on the Parade and Connor found himself quite busy. He meet with the mayor of New Tegea who awarded him with a medal and granted him special statue in the city, legally protecting him against a number of laws, like drive code. And the Supernatural Investigation Unit cell in New Tegea took him as a consultant.

But while everyone cheered their new hero, the city was in mourning has thirty people died in the attack. Connor was quick to slay the incarnation of the Worm and heal its poison but for some vulnerable people, it was too late. A city wide funeral was prepared for 16 of July and the mayor had asked Connor to make an apparition.

In the mean time Connor was living in a penthouse owned by Calaki in the Phoenix District. The Hounds returned to their activity in the Haris District and the Cult of Persephone was running quiet damage control, making sure to rout anyone having helped Alexios.

Everything was calm until one morning, Connor found a note in the pocket of the cloak that was given to him by Hades. A simple paper with a single phrase in ancient Greek.

Bob Harling, 27 Hebe Street, Old District.

The seal of Hades was right under it.

[Momentum: 0/4 - Tension: 0/4]
OOC: And here we go. I beging the arc with a mini adventure to pay your price for Hades.

Season 1 / Arc 2

As Connor read the note, he considered while Fluffy watched on curiously. He knew it was only a matter of time before his...uncle? Stepfather? Well...he wasn't really sure WHAT Hades was to him, given how weird the Theoi family tree was. What he did know, was that while he certainly didn't hold any god in as high esteem as he did his divine mother, that he had a certain stoic respect for Hades that went above and beyond the general awe and sense of family he felt toward the other Greek Gods. The man had, quite honestly, done him a real solid in giving him his cloak. And he loved the goddamned thing as much as he did his sword, honestly. It was just as custom-tailored to him and his abilities and ichor and situation as the sword and necklace were. And his dog of course! Talk about therapy animal! And it was telling that it took the spawn of a demigod-level monster to act as a therapy pet to the young scion. But the reality is that Connor was a complicated young man but he always acknowledged - and respected - gifts that were really tailored to their recipient. That extra level of consideration and effort was something the scion acknowledged heavily, although he didn't often like to admit it openly since it was kind of cheesy.

Mind you, unlike his mother who gave him his "core" set of birthrights (i,e, sword, necklace, and dog) freely with no strings attached beyond the bonds of a son to his mother, Hades - fitting the nature of the Plutonian god - granted Connor a great gift but with strings attached. Some would think such a thing was disingenuous of Hades, but Connor knew better. The god of the underworld didn't have to give him shit, quite frankly. Especially since he was the son of some other unknown father, but apparently what Persephone did in the Springtime was none of Hades' concern and the god respected that boundary. But even so...he could have just loaned the thing to Connor, or given him something shabbier. But that Cloak was quite frankly of the same quality as his sword was - a Greater unique relic. And he wasn't lending it to Connor; the scion really did fully own the thing. It's just...it was on a mortgage. He suspected the initial price was higher, but he mortgaged it to Connor instead of borrowed it due to his mother's wiles and influence.

But still...even as nice as this was, one still had to pay their mortgage note or there would be consequences. No matter how nice the bank was about it normally.

And honestly? Connor didn't mind doing these side favors for Hades every now and then. He sort of viewed it as an investment, even. And in a way...it was like death-god training of sorts.

"Well boy? Looks like someone pissed off ma's old man." he said as he reads the note aloud once for the dog's benefit before pocketing it.

"And I don't think he's really that petty a guy, which means this Bob guy deserves to have to deal with me soon. Not sure what he owes the Underworld, but we'll find out. One way or the other." Connor said as he touched he jacket a moment knowingly.

"Let's go to Hebe street and go from there." he said as he got himself dressed and bathed and then headed out.

----------------

NEW DEED GOALS UNLOCKED!

*New Short Term goal proposed: Find Bob Harling.

*New Long Term goal proposed: Supernatural Overstepping Resolution - Forest Outskirts.
NOTE: This is to look into and resolve the Cases of missing people in  the forests on the outskirts of City.

*Bonus Long Term Goal (from cloak): Resolve Hades' request!

*New Band Goal proposed: Be acknowledged by all Mortal and Supernatural factions in and around the city that he is the "apex predator" top-dog of the region.

The band deed is something we need to agree is the culmination for the season. I am unclear what to propose here quite yet, but I'm leaning toward something that will help him cement his legend in the city and surrounding region, before Hunting down the Order perhaps later? He figures he needs to cement his presence so that bad supernatural actors really hesitate before pulling off stunts like the parade situation. Fear can be a great deterrent.

Thoughts?

Season 1 / Arc 2

Episode 1 / Scene 1
Thursday, 7 July 2022 / New Tegea, Michigan, USA

The 27 Hebe Street was a small apartment building of six floor build in the same style as the rest of the Old District, made of stone and imitating old Greek building with pseudo pillars and bas-relief.

A glance at the mailbox in the entrance directed Connor toward the second apartment of third floor. The nameplate on the door confirmed it was the dwelling of a Bod Harling. The Scion waited few second after knocking before a the door open, revealing a man in his sixty.

-Can I help… he began before trailing off. You are that man who killed the monster at the parade! Why are you here? He asked a bit surprised.

[Momentum: 0/4 - Tension: 0/4]
OOC: Your long-term is perfect for one of the arc I had in mind and the band goal I had in mind was prove yourself as the hero of the city (so we have the same idea).
For the short term goal, this is a little to easy, I was thinking in the line "Pay Hades back." (in the sense of pay your debt).

Season 1 / Arc 2

OOC: The Hades thing we can definitely move around...it depends on how long you think it will take. If it's fairly quick "like a session" then ya short is great, and you know more than me what's involved so I'm game.

As for hero of the city...I like it. For someone like connor, being a "good guy" versus a "bad guy" has a much finer, yet much greyer line than maybe it does for normal people. But he's definitely more on the heroic side at this point, although he is meant to be very anti-hero or Byronic hero rather than "classically heroic." But overall he defends innocent people now.

Let's Revise the Deeds:

Short Term Deed: Resolve Hades' "Payment."

Long Term Deed: Supernatural Overstepping Resolution - Forest Outskirts.

Band: Prove himself as the razor-edged hero of the city.

When the old man opened the door, Fluffy peered inside with his pup-like curiosity.

"Sit boy." Connor remanded him firmly, causing the dog to whimper once before sitting down in an almost polite manner. Polite for a dog, anyway.

The scion then turned back to the man.

"Yeah, that right." Connor responded quickly. "And I'm here on the side running an errand for Hades. You owe him something. What is it." he said as he showed the man Hades' note to make a point. "So bob? We need to talk."

Season 1 / Arc 2

Episode 1 / Scene 1
Thursday, 7 July 2022 / New Tegea, Michigan, USA

Bob Harling seemed be torn between disbelieve and relief as he answered the scion while inviting him in his apartment.

-The Lord of the Dead is truly generous to have answered my prayer, he said. My wife, Eleanor, was murdered two years ago, by a crazed serial killer. The police arrested him and he was send to prison but he never revealed where he buried his victims.

Connor surveyed the apartment of the man and he saw several picture of a woman, probably Bob’s wife.

-That mad man targetted the followers of Theoi, he gloated that he buried them without the Ferryman Price and they would never find peace in the Underworld. I prayed to Saviour of the Dead to help my wife and is other victim. And now you are here, he finished, the answer to my prayers.

[Momentum: 0/4 - Tension: 0/4]
OOC: Sorry. I wanted to post yesterday but I had a family at home.
Quick note, Saviour of the Dead is one of the epithet of Hades. The Greek rarely spoke his name so they have many surname for him. He was also called the Host of Many or Zeus Khthonios (literraly Zeus of the Underworld).

Season 1 / Arc 2

Connor's eyebrows perked up a bit in surprise at the story. He knew the man wasn't lying, but he never thought there'd be someone so dumb as to target worshipers of the gods like this. But it made sense why Hades sent him here though.

And Connor's Theoi blood seethed a bit not only at this affront to his family and their worshippers, but at the fact that even though the killer went to prison there was still much left unresolved. Those families of worshippers deserved to know what happened to their loved ones, especially since they were all Greek pantheon worshippers too. The Theoi could be petty at times, yes, but they also looked after their worshippers in their own way too.

"Hmmm...I see. Well, now it makes sense why ma's old man sent me here." the scion replied as he nodded his head.

"This isn't a discussion for a hallway. Let's head inside. I'd appreciate a drink if you got one, and some water and like...a stick of jerkey or something for my pooch." Connor said expectantly, as he headed inside the apartment after having been invited.

"I want you to tell me more about this killer, what prison he is in, and also if you somehow know where your wife was killed that would be helpful but at the very least I need to know who this man is and what prison he's at, and anything else about him. Because I'm of a mind to meddle a bit and see if we can't find where she was buried. Maybe find all of them."

Season 1 / Arc 2

Episode 1 / Scene 1
Thursday, 7 July 2022 / New Tegea, Michigan, USA

Installed in the sofa of Bob’s apartment, Connor listened to his host story.

-Not much of a story. Two years ago Eleanor was coming back from Chicago at night after a seminar for her job. I don’t know what really happened, but the police had call from her about an accident, but it was really bad quality and was cut short. The morning after, people found her accidented car on a secondary road, Eleanor liked to take those, but no trace of her.

He picked a folder and showed to Connor picture of the scene. The man had obviously tried to find anything on the case. The map next to it located the scene at barely fifteen minutes south of New Tegea, on a secondary road.

-She was the third person worshipping the Theoi to vanish in the area. The police ended up catching the man after his seventh victim when his would-be eight victim escaped him and his testimony was enough for the police to find him. They found enough of proof against him in his apartment to arrest him.

He showed another picture, this one of an unkempt man in his late thirty.

-This is him, Victor Valerio. Poster guy for the mad killer, troubled childhood with several foster parents, difficult time in school, teenage criminal record… At the time he worked a small time job as cashier and was occasionally making troubles for other. When they caught him he was proud of the murders and even gave the police the name of two victims they missed. But he refused to tell where he buried them, said they were now his.

Bob paused for a moment, lost in in his memories.

-Valerio is now in the psychiatric ward of Peterson Prison, the high-security one near Chicago.

Season 1 / Arc 2

Connor considered for a moment.

"Hmmm...that's interesting. Very interesting." Connor muttered as he replied.

"Since you know the scene where she called from, that's good enough! I think I can possibly track her down by following the light of the Stars. Mind you, I'd like to find those other bodies too though." he continued.

"And I wonder if I can't get Valerio to spill somehow. I have my methods. I suppose I could start just breaking his bones one-by-one too. You'd be surprised by how quickly people sing like canaries when you start crushing their fingers bit by bit, but I have other techniques I can use if I have to get real creative." Connor continued with a sinister grin.

"Unfortunately, I can't just call their ghosts so easily without knowing where they were buried, which is a chicken-and-egg problem. And I'm not quite able to go to the underworld and ask either. Not yet, anyway. So I think my best bet is taking a little road trip to the outskirts of Chicago. If I can find your wife's body, I might be able to find something there that could lead me to the other 6 bodies." he said.

His hunter knacks were useless for tracking dead corpses, but his stars purview would be great here. He'd make sure to go to a bank or something and get 7 small silver coins for the death fare as well, since he wasn't sure if Charon was taking other coinage these days or not. He'd have to ask the cult of Persephone if they knew anything about that.

And then he also had to decide what if anything to do about Valerio. But that could be for some other time. Finding Bob's wife took first priority, followed by the other bodies if possible.

"Bob? Lay out the contents of that file so I can take pictures with my cellphone in case I need to reference something later. And do you know anything else about what your wife was doing that night, or about the murders or Valero or really anything that could potentially be useful to know? Because I'm gonna try to answer your prayer to Hades for him in his stead." Connor added.

"Oh and give me your phone number too." he said as he pulled out his phone.

Bob shivered when Connor mentioned the name of Hades but showed his file to him.

-My wife was only coming back from Chicago, the man said as Connor scanned the file. She liked to take small roads so I am not surprised of where her car was found.

I paused a moment in deep thought.

-For the others murders, the scenario is similar. Valerio stalked several persons at the same time and waited for one of them to be alone and kidnapped them. The police didn’t find where he actually killed them. For the last victim, Valerio was transporting him in a van and stopped for a moment, the victim woke up and manage to escape the van and contact the police. They arrived quickly, tracked the owner of the van and found him in his apartment while he was preparing to flee.

Connor nodded as he listened silently and scanned the file.

"Hmmm...interesting. His propensity for catching the victims when they were along might actually help me find your wife. Maybe I can even find the others if I'm lucky." he replied.

"Buuuut...one prayer at a time. Knowing where your wife's car was is great." he added as he turned his head to look across the room at Fluffy, who was currently finishing up chewing on soemthing or the other. Most likely a piece of celery or something Bob had given him. The dog was polite enough to do it on the floor, though, and not on a couch or something.

"Yo pooch?! You wanna come on a roadtrip with me to the outskirts of Chicago? Shit-cago if you factor in its awful traffic, but it goes back to Chicago again when you factor in the awesome hotdogs they got. Chicago style hotdogs are the best hotdogs, and I'll buy you one if you want." he asked aloud to the dog.

And, possibly to Bob's surprise, the dog gave a single sudden affirmative *bark!* in response, as if the dog fully knew what was being asked and was intrigued by this special style of Hotdog. Was it like...how a relic sword compared to a normal sword? Was it a relic hotdog? The dog was quite intrigued to find out.

Connor turned back to Bob.

"Well there you have it. We're going on a pooch-approved roadtrip to find your wife. I'll call you if I need anything else." he said as he got up. Fluffy, meanwhile, had just finished nomming on whatever it was he nommed on and drank some water before trotting over to Connor's side.

"This will be fine." he said as he handed the file back to Bob, after finishing taking his pics.

"I can contact some of my people and get them digging into the sealed police records and stuff. But I should be able to get info on the other victims...enough to latch onto and do my thing, anyway." Connor said as he held his phone out a bit and punched some numbers into it. He left a text message with both Kirl and Tobias as the recipients. He sent 3 consecutive texts:

Yo Old Man? Kirk? This is Connor. I'm gonna be taking a road trip to the outskirts of Chicago to follow up on a favor for Hades. That, n also gotta do it 4 my Family's Honor. It's about that Valerio serial killer case from a few yrs ago. I'm gonna answer the prayers of the people and try to find those missing bodies.

I got a lead on that Eleonor Harling chick, but I need any info u guys can help me get about the other victims. Especially any places the police think the victims may have been nabbed or attacked by Valerio. If I can figure out at least some place where each victim was on the day they got nabbed I may be able to use my magic to track their bodies and give them coins for Charon. Not to mention proper burials with their families and communities.

Let me know if u get more info. TTYL.

OOC: Yes, I forgot to put it in my last post but he is invoking a path connection to help along the narrative a bit. :)

Connor got off his bike, and took the riding goggles off Fluffy as he did so, and they both stretched and took a leak on the side of the road. When they were done, the scion has a look around the area.

"Well boy...this is supposedly where they found Eleanour's car. Which means Valerio was here sometime or very close. Of course, it seems the guy tried to cover his tracks well but there's other ways of observing guilt than just literal tracks in the dirt." the Scion said as he paced the area a bit. The dark-touched hellound followed Connor for the most part, but occasionally sniffed the ground and looked here and there curiously. The dog wasn't quite sure what to look for since the crime scene was a few years old now, but he was following enough to understand why Connor wanted to check the place for leads.

The scion's eyes suddenly flickered with a slight golden light for a moment as the scion imbued some of his legend into himself, and as the light dimmed his eyes took on a twinkling, sparkling quality reminiscent of the nighttime sky as the Scion not only looked upward, but backward as well as downward!

OOC: Connor is activating his stars boon "Cosmic Perspective" and is looking into the past, using the day when her car was found as a starting point to vastly save himself time, and he attempts to observe the scene. Connor's plan is once he sees Eleanor, he will start "Tracking" her movement in time and use that boon plus his hunter knacks as needed to figure out where her body ended up. Note that if a roll is called for, the boon eliminates up to 5 points of complications!

Season 1 / Arc 2

Episode 1 / Scene 2
Thursday, 7 July 2022 / New Tegea, Michigan, USA

Connor was seeing what the stars themselves so two years prior, on a dark and windy September night. Bob’s file mentioned the hour of the emergency call made by his wife, narrowing his search.

Minutes before the call, he saw a car he recognized from the photo of the crash, drive on the road. It was followed by an old grey van. The large vehicle suddenly accelerated to overtake the car before cutting the lane before it. The car veered in response and ended on the roadside and on the side.

A woman crawled out of the car, she was obviously dazed but not really wounded. She took her phone and called never seeing the van’s driver approaching her. When she did, she sensed something was not right and tried to run, dropping her phone. But the man, Valerio recognized Connor, shot her with a taser before forcing a handkief on her mouth. Eleanor struggled for a moment, growing weaker and weaker before she stopped.

Which supported what the victim who escaped reported. Medical analyse and the evidence at Valerio’s home proved he used a derived of chloroform to knock out his victim after subduing them with a taser.

Once Eleanor knocked out, Valerio took her in his van, bind her before he took the road toward New Tegea.

OOC: Tracking Valerio's van will be a complexe action of four milestones. The first roll is
Cunning + Pilot difficulty 1

This is easy for now since you just need to follow someone on the road without no other target.

Season 1 / Arc 2

He's definitely going to need his knacks to make this work, for sure!

22:42, Today: Connor Johnson rolled 1 success using 3d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s.  Cunning+Pilot.

I declare that Connor is Casing (Hero pg 228) per his Judge knack, so he gains +1 enhancement. I also declare Hunter's Worrying Hound for another +1 enhancement to keep up with his target, but I will not declare him a quarry since it's in the past so will leave it there for now. That's +2 enhancement, which with his 1 success is just barely enough to squeak by.

So basically he buys off the difficulty and the complication, but barely.

Connor rides his motorcycle along the Road, with Fluffy in tow, has he follows both the present and the past to try and back-track his way to Elenour's body. He has enough natural cunning to pull it off, but not safely. However, his ichor seeths at the situation and preternaturally sharpens his focus, allowing the young scion to better focus on both the past and the present at the same time. where as if he were just a normal mortal he probably would have wiped out at least once due to the shifting perspectives.

OOC: I totally realized I have no pilot dots, which is why his die pool is so low. Which is dangerous since enhancement doesn't apply without at least 1 base success. I guess when I made the character I was thinking pilot was for like race car drivers and such, but I'm definitly gonna get him a dot after this new arc as my first expenditure to help round out his narrative competency a bit. Perhaps narratively he's never had to do a lot of fancy stuff with the bike before, etc.

Ok let's see if I can get at least a success lol!

12:28, Today: Connor Johnson failed (no successes) using 3d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s.  Cunning+Pilot.

Ack! Ouchies! Since the base roll failed, my enhancements from knacks don't do anything either.

Connor wipes out as he rounds a bend, not paying attention enough to the present as he was tracking the past.

Following a van on an empty road was one thing, but following the van in a city even at night was more difficult. Connor loose track of the van for a moment, which was enough to distract him from the present and loose control of his bike.

The scion managed to regain balance by using his left leg, but touched a security barrier in the process. Fortunately, Connor was not going to fast so the wound was light, but it had definitely left a bruise.

You can either retry to follow the van:
Cunning + Pilot difficulty 3
-Rank 5 complication due to time, which you can ignore.
-Rank 1 complication to follow and drive at the same time, failure to buy mean a light accident with a bruised level.

Or you can try to find where he should pass if he go to the East.

Trying to drive and follow something that was there and wasn't there at the same time was proving to be too difficult for Connor. He just didn't have the professional skill to handle his bike like that. In the past, his bike was simply a means to get from point A to point B and his real expertise was applied once hit feet were on the ground afterward.

So he decided to change his mindset.

The general trail and clues seemed to indicate the van was heading in an overall eastern direction, but this wasn't certain yet. But if he could narrow this point down, it would be a huge lead in his investigation. So Connor decided to find which roadways would most likely be required for Valerio to drive on in order to head Eastward, out of the general area he was in now. And then he'd drive and stop, the bike, and "Spot-check" with his stars boon until he found the van again.

12:42, Today: Connor Johnson failed (no successes) using 7d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s.  Cunning+Subterfuge.

Wow! The dice gods are not having it today LOL!

Connor considered though, and was a bit stumped as there were a lot of side roads that led East...

Season 1 / Arc 2

Episode 1 / Scene 2
Thursday, 7 July 2022 / New Tegea, Michigan, USA

Fortunately for Connor, Kirk also made inquiry on the case and discovered that the police watched the traffic camera of the city to have a timeline of the Valerio’s movement.

Of course, they were many blind spots, but they had a map with every sighting of Valerio’s van during his killing spree. And two points were dated from the day of Eleanor Harling’s disappearance. One on them on the East side of New Tegea, this would be a perfect point to have the track back.

[Momentum: 1/4 - Tension: 0/4]
OOC: A had a bit of blank page to advance with you bad roll, but I managed to cook something. As a consolation you have outside help.

So you are back on track for the second Milestone:
Cunning + Pilot difficulty 1
-Rank 5 complication due to time, which you can ignore.

I don't any other skill that could help when tracking a car, if you have another idea that make sense go ahead and roll it instead of Pilot.

Season 1 / Arc 2

OOC: I'm actually going to try a different approach this time: Empathy, to try and "get into the mindset of the killer" and predict what he'd do that way. Blame my mother for a childhood filled with Matlock and law and order lol!

Connor decided to try something else. He went to an intersection int he roads that were in the Eastern part of the New Tegea outskirts, following a lead from Kirk. He then activated the Stars Boon again and got a "reading" and then he used his ability to understand the mindset of a killer given his particular background, and was able to begin deducing a path that way. He sort of did this scientifically, but the majority was more on an inherent semi-divine instinct as he followed the roads a bit to another area that, in his gut, he suspected Valerio passed and he stopped the bike and activated his stars boon again for another reading, to pick up the trail again.

14:15, Today: Connor Johnson rolled 2 successes using 6d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s.  Cunning+Empathy.

+1 enhancement for casing, +1 for worrying Hound so add that to 2 base successes = 4.
