Male.  This is a staple of Film Noir.  Please don't make me gender bend a ton of my NPCs.


Level and Classes

You will be 2nd level.

Rogue and/or Ranger are strongly suggested.

A single level of fighter is acceptable.

You'll have to do a lot of convincing for Monk or Paladin.


Hit Points
----------
In the spirit of not dying so easily, characters will have maximum hit points at first level.  At second level and higher take the average roll rounded up.  CON bonuses added of course.


Skills
------
Here are some that might come in handy for your detective:
Survival (for tracking), Search, Spot, Gather Information, Sense Motive, Bluff, Listen, Diplomacy, Intimidate
But you can take whatever skills you'd like.

You will start with Anglish (Common).  Rogues automatically receive Thieves' Cant.

You are assumed to be literate in any language you can speak.

For the most part your backstory is up to you, but there are a few plot points.

Your detective is an alcoholic.
Your detective is a former constable of the lower class neighborhood (Edge) where he still lives.
Your detective has serious debts from having a curse removed.


You can kick some of these optional ideas around if you'd like.

What cheap food do you like to eat?
What tragic event haunts you?
Something that used to make you happy that you haven't thought about for a long time.
What was the curse and how'd you get cursed?
Name your character's fear.
A secret you don't want people to know about you.
