Michal makes his way south through town towards the area by the western side of the river where the women takes care of the laundry. A couple of sturdy wooden piers edges the water and there are four women here, clad in the common woolen garb of the commoners. Their heads are covered with linen kerchiefs but Michal can see that all the women are older, the youngest perhaps around 40.

Michal knows that simply confronting this woman, and this issue, straight on will likely cause offence, and will loose him answers.
Instead, Michal chooses another route into the investigation.

After leaving the horse at the stables, he will wander down to piers, where the four women are working.
But he will not interact with them.   Instead, he will just stand looking out at the river, as though he has a lot on his mind.

As he 'contemplates', he will aimlessly watch the woman work, as much as stare at the river.
Soon* enough, he will wander over casually, close enough to speak with them.
"Good morning, ladies.   That's a hard load of work you do, and I guess you do it every day.   I hope your clients appreciate the effort they put you through" ... and in doing so, he will attempt to strike up a casual conversation with them.


           * either when they look to be getting ready to leave, or simply 'after a while'

A tall, sturdy woman with dark hair and hands calloused from a life of labour put a wet tunic down ands stretches her back as she stands and watches Michal approach. Her eyes narrows but this one doesn't seem to scare easily.

"Well they certainly don't show it. We don't get visitors often down here, what can I help you with" She asks apprehensively.

Michal smiles, he isn't going to charge into this, and announce his intentions: that would likely cause the girl's friends here to close up and close ranks.

"I came down here to think a while.   I can't escape the city entirely, but," he turns to look back at the city behind them, then turns to look at the river, "at least I can put it at my back for a while".

He pauses a moment, then says, as though a thought strikes him, "I am a medic ... until recently with the armed forces.   But I now that I am discharged, I am hoping to settle down a while ... possible in the city here.

Which makes me think to ask you two things.
The first is:   do you ladies clean matter that has been stained and soaked with blood?  I know it can be hard to remove ... and no medic worth their salt uses materials still holding such matter.

The second is:  are any of you in need of medical services?  or, perhaps, know of anyone who could use my aid?"

The woman eyes Michal appraisingly while pondering her response.

The womans relaxes visibly and nods but her mouth takes on a sceptical look. "A surgeon? Never knew anyone coming back alive from a surgeon. Don't know why you'd offer but thank you anyway. We wash everything. Blood is tough and require a good beating to rinse out but it can be done, for sure." She pauses for a moment, looks at the other three women still doing laundry by the pier and continues in her coarse peasant accent. "We don't have any need for your services, seigneur. Fit as fiddles, we are."

The woman continues. "Come now, what are ye after? Not getteing anything laundered, I think."
