VI - On the Road to Saint Volusien

The party readies themselves for the short trip and sets off along the narrow path towards Saint Volusien. Quins young charges look forlorn and turn to each other for comfort during the trip.

Quin, in his usual light-hearted way, talks to the boy and girl and they eventually relax and look a little more comfortable in the high-born company. It is a fantastic spring day, crisp and sunny and the air smell of mountains. Jehanne answers Quins questions to the best of her ability: she remembers gathering worksmen's clothes to bring down to the river where her mother and the other women washes them. She ate porridge at home before going to the castle and nothing since breakfast this morning. She remembers nothing of the injury causing the scar, avoiding Quins eyes when asked but not because of lying he thinks. She don't remember anything unusual in the last few weeks except for her father having fallen ill but nothing concerning herself. She's had headaches perhaps a couple of times during a day for a few days now but she's worked a lot so haven't thought much of it. Carrying bundles of clothes up and down the construction site and around town is hard work. She hardly talks to anyone at the site -she's scared of the men- but the other washing women are nice to her.

OOC: The company consists of Guy, Quin, Guillame, Jehanne and the houndsmen. Guy, you can decide who else and what you bring. Gifts to the lady, guards, priests? I'm not sure if William will return, if he does we can say he's catching up.

"...and the headaches are only in the day, and when out of the house?" Quin asks the girl awkwardly riding the borrowed palfrey beside him. "Does thy head ache now, and is it a worse form of the same that besets thy father?"

He waits until the others are paying less attention to lean over and gently remark on her avoidant gaze: "Domaisèla Jehanne...if thou'rt carrying the belief that thou hadst invited this injury by something thou'st done or left undone..." Quin sighs, frowning, knowing he's aware of so little of her situation that it's unlikely she'll trust him enough to believe, even though it needs said: "...it is the fault of the one that gave the blow. Please, if there is any more thou knowest of this, tell me if no other, that I might the better protect thee."

[Private to GM: Did/could she pray with him, before setting out, or was there not quite time for that yet?]

VI - On the Road to Saint Volusien

Guy rode along quietly talking with de Courcey about issues they needed to raise with their liege, and the state of their lands. He let his gelding pick its way down the mountain road at its own pace, and would dismount and walk over the steep bits.

His entourage was small: his coutilloer Normina de Courcey, the cook, a monk wearing a simple robe with a rope belt, and a handful of guards. They had a small wagon with foodstuffs, supplies and gifts for the Lady. Most of the tithes were paid after harvest time, so that wasn't an issue.

He is riding his hunting horse, his destrier walking in the train, saddled and ready but unladen.

Jehanne looks at the cook sitting on the wagon pleadingly as if she could help her with answers, then back at Quin. "I... I thank you for your kindness, Seigneur, but I can not tell you, my father, he..." she trails off.

OOC: Roll Influce but with +30%. It's clear there's something she doesn't want to tell you.

[Private to Quintillian de Serignac: She prayed with you but awkwardly like she's not used to it or not matching your level of piousness.]

[[I rolled out of confusion, though if you meant adding 30 to the total then there was no point, since I'd have to roll -9...

23:47, Today: Quintillian de Serignac rolled 38 using 1d100.  In...fluence? (21)]]

"...has asked an oath of thee?" Quin offers, by means of allowing the girl a way out. He resettles in the saddle of his huge gray, adding softly in case his charge did find shame in being injured, despite his words: "If it would get thee harshly treated, I can speak to him myself, and shield thee at need."

[Private to GM: Quin'll assume her family are tithe-dodgers or/and heretics, then - she should be able to pick up that he's gentle by nature and chill with that, if doing his best to make up for the lack for her soul's sake.]
