Character creation

Use the system outlined in the SRD (https://openquestrpg.com/srd/c...chracter-generation/) or the core rulebook where nothing else is mentioned below. Magic will not be available by default so that entire skill group is removed.

Step 1: Determine Concept, one sentence that sums up what the character is all about. Discuss your ideas with the other players as the group should be from or live in the same small town and know each other from the start. The characters can be chivalric knights, errant knights, squires, lords, ladies, servants in the keep or something else as long as there's reasons why the group would work together.

Step 2: Generate Characteristics using the point method:
  • All Characteristics start at 8
  • Distribute 30 points
  • Maximum value is 18 and minimum 3 (except for INT and SIZ which can't be lower than 8)
  • You can reduce characteristics to gain additional points to raise other characteristics. Characteristics at 5 or lower indicate some severe disadvantage.

Step 3: Generate Attributes.

Step 4: Calculate and raise skills:
  • Resistances: Spend 50 points between the three skills.
  • Combat: Spend 50 points between the three skills.
  • Knowledge: Spend 50 points between the skills. You can choose additional language, culture or knowledge skills other than the two native ones. For example Lore (Military Tactics, alchemy, art, astronomy, gambling, geography, heraldry, law, logistics, military tactics, philosophy, poisons) or some other suitable topic.
  • Practical: Spend 90 points between skills.

Step 5: Wealth and Equipment. The optional rule to use the Wealth skill to abstract resources will be used.

Step 6: Finishing touches:
  • Determine age. This will have no mechanical effects.
  • Every character starts the game with 2 Fortune points
  • Background. Please write as little background as possible, just what's nessecary to make the Concept fit into the game and to coordinate with the other players. Let the rest emerge through play.
  • Saga Motive: Choose a life motive that explains what drives your character
  • Personality and appearance: Note only what the other characters would know of your players personality and what she or he looks like, let the rest emerge through play. Write it up in the Rpol character description.
