Re: Session 0 talks

Very nice ideas here =D.

How are you all? The mechanical side starts to look good. I want to say at this point: I am willing to let you change the skills/talents during the first adventure or before first endeavours afterwards, if you notice you would have liked something else. No need to force you play something, especially as PbPs run a lot slower than face-to-face gaming.

Has everyone thought about their character's past? Has everyone thought about short term goals? They are important for xp. Do you need something from me at this point?

Now that starting is quite near: what kind of scene should we start here? An rp scene right after binding? After getting your orders to travel to Lumnos? Straight to adventuring after leaving Lumnos to find the fortress?

Re: Session 0 talks

I still need to do some character work just to get the details shored up - apologies to everyone, the last week has been unexpectedly exhausting with IRL partner illness and minor injury and work being more of a pain than expected. I should have that to the GM by CoP tomorrow.

In terms of start points, I would probably argue for starting in media res - I think it's easier to get our bearings in a semi-action scene and get used to one another and the characters rather than having a briefing scene or a Binding scene. We can flash back to those if we want but I'd say get started and build some momentum (which, I accept, I've probably been responsible in part for preventing from happening)

Re: Session 0 talks

Play by post by its nature is not the most adrenaline inducing form of playing. I agree that momentum is something to strive for as well as something that is hard to hold

So one vote for starting in a middle of some kind of action scene.

Re: Session 0 talks

I like rolling dice.  Dropping us into an action scene and saying 'go' sounds great to me.

Two voice singing same song is enough for me. When we are ready to start, action is imminent in one form or another.

Nice. I have put together the first challenges. Do you all feel the characters finished enough to consider starting? Are there things to do yet?

Re: Session 0 talks

Beyond I think a name change, I think I'm fairly good to go - there's a couple of bits of writing up backstory and descriptions, but I think that'll come in the next few days as I make some time for it!

By the way: feel free to create a charavter description by accessing it via character details. That way it is easily accessible to all.

Re: Session 0 talks

I am aiming to start a playing thread during the weekend. The team has left Lumnos heading towards the Bright Mountains, but as is the tradition, all does not go according to the plan.

Unfortunately I will need about 2 days more to set up the new thread. Aiming for Tuesday at the moment.

Re: Session 0 talks

Wondering about framing the first scene. Is there any sane reason the group would be travelling without horses or something to ride on? I feel a bit stupid if I send you out on foot. The city of Lumnos hopes to gain an useful asset, so one would think they could spare some equipment and mounts. It will affect the first scene.

Re: Session 0 talks

Perhaps as part of the journey we will be traveling with a merchant who has precured horses from the town which means we could either ride them on the trip or in the wagons.....?

Re: Session 0 talks

I was thinking that perhaps the city has loaned you some mounts. Expected to be returned at some point. Then again, Gunmetal Joe IS a trade pioneer, which is actually just the thing needed for establishing a route to the fortress.

Re: Session 0 talks

Now that the first scene is practically over and you have had a bit of time to get used to/think about the character: Does someone want to make smaller or bigger changes? I can not promise anything goes, but I have gotten an inquiry about using something found in the new Era of the Beast book. I am sitting on the fence with that one, hesitant to add to the allowed material, but it is a possibility.

What do you all think about your characters?

For openness' sake, I'm the one who asked after something from the new book.

I'm certainly happy with Sebhata. Maybe there are other things I might want to try, but I don't regret playing this character and there isn't anything I dislike about the archetype that isn't the result of its deliberate shortfallings.

Re: Session 0 talks

I'm relatively content at the moment, but that's partially because I'm still learning the system and trying to work out both what's effective as a play style and indeed as a build for the game.

I suspect I'm happy to stick with Raelka as is for the moment - I just need to make some time to really read up on the rules and some of the options for taking her forward as a character and how to get the best out of the build I'm potentially playing with.

Re: Session 0 talks

@Raelka: the character is solid. Of course reading the rules is useful, but you csn also ask if you have some goal or area of expertise in mind. I will gladly use some time to check this bit or that, or tell about main options if you want. I am not a genius in the matter, but I am decently well-versed. Also one should aim at fun, because as always there are ways to brake the game if one truly over-optimizes.

Many thanks - I should be all right but I'm glad that I haven't ended up falling completely flat on my face thus far :)

Re: Session 0 talks

I have found that systems with so "rough" granularity, especially when there is only 3 base stats.
