As long as you're willing to learn and keep an open mind you should have no problems enjoying TTRPGs with bros

>Do I need to join a voice chat to play?

Not necessarily. Voice Chat is preferable and leads to more immersive gaming sessions, but there are also Play by Post games where individual players post consecutively. These games are simultaneously simpler and more advanced since you can take time to plan out your actions alone or with other party members, as well as being able to give more thought to your responses if you're not great at thinking on the fly.

>Do I need to own books to play?

Lots of systems have System Reference Documents, otherwise known as SRDs, that are basically the basic rules of the system with little to no fluff to allow anybody to play. In addition, books are either pretty cheap or free depending on how savvy you are, so don't let that be an obstacle to you!

>How do I join?

>How do I play?

Ask around, see if anybody is interested in grouping up, find a GM and get to playing! Numerous options exist, such as Discord (for voice/text chat), Roll20 (a virtual tabletop website that is free and pretty robust), Tabletop Simulator, and numerous others! There is more than likely a medium that suits you best, so try some and see which ones you like!
