Round 3 - Strange Folk, Strange Creatures, Strange Plants

In this round we're going to be looking at strange living things that may be found in the underdark (and I use the term 'living' very loosely to say the least).  I suggest we do one of each.  One intelligent being, one animal (everything from cockroaches to hippopotamuses) and one plant (everything from blue-green algae to Yggdrasil itself).

Please don't include, Fae, ghosts, giant rats, tube mice or slime mould because these will be the non scoring candidates that make this game non-zero sum.

Round 3 - Strange Folk, Strange Creatures, Strange Plants

  • Mr Pip is a ventriloquist dummy from the early 19th century that has been given life by... well no one knows. He prows the underground looking for victims and allies, without any real purpose it would seem. He can also be hired if you know the right people "above" and can be quite "helpful" if you get on his good side.

  • Grinwald is a cave bear of immense size and age. He has lived in Britain since before the last ice age respected and venerated by countless tribes of humanoids. His power was only surpassed by his physical strength, but now all his worshippers are gone and he sits on a large carved stone throne asleep/hibernating and covered in a thin layer of frost.

  • The creeper or roper is an ivy like plant that has the ability to change colour and texture to mimic the surface it is adhered to. It lays in wait for prey and ambushes by throwing out long thorn covered vines to snare the victim and then to draw it back to be crushed against the wall, like a constricter snake. Larger size plants that are hundreds of years old will take human prey, but for the most part they target rats and the like.

Round 3 - Strange Folk, Strange Creatures, Strange Plants

So here we are.  Vote in order 1-20.  If you vote for any as the same, label them as n= rather than just repeating n.  If there are any you don't want to vote for at all, indicate this by labelling your last as 'That's the lot'.  Otherwise I'll average the points for those you've not voted for and give each of them the average.

Mr Pip
He is a ventriloquist dummy from the early 19th century.  He is now an homunculus, given life by... well no one knows. He prowls the underground looking for victims and allies, without any real purpose it would seem. He can also be hired if you know the right people "above" and can be quite "helpful" if you get on his good side. (Intelligent being)

Grinwald
Grinwald is a cave bear of immense size and age. He has lived in Britain since before the last ice age respected and venerated by countless tribes of humanoids. His power was only surpassed by his physical strength, but now all his worshippers are gone and he sits on a large carved stone throne asleep/hibernating and covered in a thin layer of frost. (Animal)

Creepers (or ropers)
are ivy like plants with the ability to change colour and texture to mimic the surface they adhere to. They lay in wait for prey and ambush by throwing out long thorn covered vines to snare the victim and then to draw it back to be crushed against the wall, like a constricter snake. Larger size plants that are hundreds of years old will take human prey, but for the most part they target rats and the like. (Plant)

Little green men
... or greys or whatever they are called. UFO's have been sighted for centuries but with no confirmation. But they do exist and have been visiting Earth on and off for a long time. Rumors have it that they even have a base under the O2 arena. (Intelligent beings)

The Swarm
Technically, the Swarm is not a life-form but a collection of nanites. It is not known what these new denizens of London's darker areas are intent upon. But it is believed they escaped from a secret research facility and said facility is determined to recover what they see as their property. (animals)

Calvatia gigantea nigreos
Commonly known as the giant black puffball, these mushrooms are found in dark moist places with little to disturb them, they are best left alone. During most of its life cycle the black puffball is nearly harmless unless someone is foolish enough to eat it. It is extremely dangerous to be around when past their fruiting cycle as the spores released then can easily overwhelm most creatures causing them to fall into a deep catatonic type sleep. Which inevitably leads to death... and food for the new mushroom colony. (plants)

Horus' Tablet:
In the underground, an old man wanders (though some accounts change from time to time, sometimes it's a young woman, sometimes a boy, and sometimes something dead that shouldn't be moving), and with him carries a stone tablet. This tablet was once a powerful artifact given by Horus itself to his most trusted priest.  It used to lay dormant in a museum in Brooklyn but since the City's near bankruptcy in the 1970s, it has found it's way to the underground's of Britain.  The current holder wears what looks to be a security guard's uniform, and proclaims himself Guardian of the End. The holders mostly spend their days wandering, in search of something mostly. No one really bothers them and mostly they putter around minding their own business. Sometimes they take the form of missing people, famous people but they don't behave as they did in life. (Intelligent beings)

Veteran Bird:
Britain used to have a secret intelligence agency were they trained all sorts of spies. From teenage high school girls to literal children, they had no sorts of moral and boundaries. That's when they worked on birds, and they had made a bevy of bird spies, but nothing could compare to this elite spy team that consists of mostly pigeons. Clearly they were unstoppable, until the Shadow War of 2016, a lot of bird lives were lost that day. Fallen by the dreaded sea creatures of equal secret agentness. Only one remain, Agent Smith, a pigeon with one leg that makes a living in underground settlements. Usually grumpy, and poops aggressively on anything that looks like a fish (though mole people are good substitutes), and spends it's days constantly watching travelers. All part of his last mission, at least that's the story he writes to everyone his ever met, it's currently unknown if what this pigeon says is true, either his lying or delusional. However, theirs no denying that this bird is extremely smart, much smarter than the average human. (animal)

Memory Rose:
In the underground, some vets would advice you that when you find yourself in a bed of roses and they started speaking to you. It's better to follow their advice. It's unknown what origins that these plants come from, most people just shrug and call it a weirdness of the undergrounds. In a sense, it's true. You see these plants contain the memories of those that pass by, vague memories. Whenever a new arrival comes to the bed of roses, these plants connect within their mind through hallucinogenic pollens and give them a relevant insight that they deem to be important to the traveler. (plant)

Mr Hyde
"Edward Hyde is pale and dwarfish, he gives an impression of deformity without any nameable malformation, he has a displeasing smile..." This was Mr Utterson's description of Hyde but it echoes Enfield's description and indeed all those who have survived meetings. All who meet Hyde are convinced that something is "wrong" with him but cannot pinpoint what it is.
Edward Hyde is the liberated id of one Dr Henry Jeckyll.  He contains all of Jeckyll's evil impulses and has the power to bring them to fruition. (Intelligent being)

Unicorns
The Fairy Investigation Society has discovered several places under London where the barriers between Common Earth and Faerie are easily crossed.  One such is underneath London Hippodrome and leads to a meadow occupied by these magical creatures, milk-white horses with horns like the tusks of Narwhals.  The only humans who can ride them are children. (animal)

Monkey's Peach Trees
In a cavern deep beneath light shines from the Faerie Sun even though there is no nearby entrance to Faerie allowing these trees to grow.  Each tree is of incalculable age and each bears one fruit per century.  The fruits are golden peaches which are said to grant immortality to those who taste them... provided they are worthy of course. (Plant)

Fae
The Fae or Sidhe are the inhabitants of Faerie, although they call it Tir na n'Og (Land of the Young) or Tir Tairngire (Land of Promise).  Their land can be reached from various places in or under London and vice versa (but not always or even usually from the same place). The Fae are divided into two Noble Courts, the Seelie and the Unseelie along with commoners known as the Wee Folk and a Warrior clan known as the Sluagh.  All that humans believe they know about the Fae is doubtless wrong (Intelligent beings)

Ghosts
These apparitions of dead humans appear in places important to them in life.  They are mostly harmless but they are also mostly unable to interract with the common world.  Mostly, of course does NOT mean always. (Intelligent beings)

Giant Rats
A rat the size of a rabbit is huge.  These creatures though are the size of German Shepherds and as smart and as fierce as wild boar.  Teeth and tails have been found but no living specimen has been captured.  Keeping away from them is advised by all authorities. (animal)

Tube Mice
These melanistic populations of housemice have lived in the tube network for over a hundred years.  Tey are the reason there is much less rubble in the underdark than expected.  They are very shy and they hear your footsteps and your thoughts.  When cornered they can be as dangerous or more dangerous than anything else under London. (animal)

Slime Mould
For most of their existence, these are single celled creatures that can be observed as slime on rocks or other hard surfaces, particularly near water sources.  During drought, fire, or flood, they transform into black plants that grow up to five feet high and send out roots and branches for up to a mile in all directions until they find somewhere better to be slime.  They are mostly harmless but do sometimes grow fierce thorns and tentacles if provoked (Plant)

Morlocks
London and its predecessors have been built on the blood, sweat, tears and broken backs of slaves, navvies and near-slaves often in dangerous conditions.  Those injured were often left for dead.  Many died but some survived.  Their descendants are the Morlocks, half blind, malevolent humans who haunt the Darkness under London and who thirst for both revenge on and a taste of the flesh of those whose convenience put them there.  (Intelligent beings)

London Alligators
Some say they are the descendants of pets flushed away when they grew too big.  Others claim they were placed in the sewers deliberately to prey on the giant rats.  Either way these albino alligators are the apex predators of the Underdark, stalking near water, they have no eyes but rely instead on sound and smell to hunt their prey.  Did you bathe this morning?  And at lunchtime?  Before going out again?  It doesn't matter.  It was not enough.  They will find you. (animal)

Milk Lights
These crean coloured, warty fungi glow constantly with a lambent light, like a candle flame but still.  They also provide a milky substance that not only looks and tastes like milk, but has the same chemical composition as well.  Add to that, the flesh tastes like chicken.  They are mildly soporific and likely to give a good night's sleep even on the hardest ground. (Plant)

There we go vote in order 1 to 20.  This time, I will make the top three intelligent beings, the top three animals and the top three plants canon as well as the candidate with the highest points after these nine have been removed to make ten candidates that are canon.  I reserve the right to use the losers as well if I feel like it.
