Round 5 - Cults, Cultures and Factions

CULT noun
1.  a system of religious veneration and devotion directed towards a particular figure or object. "the cult of St Olaf"
2.  a person or thing that is popular or fashionable among a particular group or section of society. "the series has become a bit of a cult in the UK"

CULTURE noun
1.  the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively.  "20th century popular culture"
2.  the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society.
"Afro-Caribbean culture"
verb (BIOLOGY)
maintain (tissue cells, bacteria, etc.) in conditions suitable for growth.  "several investigators have attempted to culture biliary cells"

FACTION noun
1.  a small organized dissenting group within a larger one, especially in politics.  "the left-wing faction of the party"
2.  dissension within an organization. "a council increasingly split by faction"

As you can see, there is some overlap between these rather fuzzy, abstract definitions.  I'm interpreting this group to mean, any group of people, from a Thursday night poker school to an entire civilisation, please feel free to create Cults, Cultures and factions between these extremes.

As usual, please send to me your candidates in private messages.  A minimum of one and a maximum of four please.  This time, I'll make up the numbers with some fairly random groups should our total prove less than twenty.

The Candidates

Once more, please vote in PMs.  There are fifteen here but you can give them positions from 1 to 20, letting the gaps be wherever you wish.

The Knights of London
Descendants of the original Knights of the Round Table who are waiting for Arthur to return and lead them. They defend humanity from 'the things beyond' using the magical weapons and armour created by Merlin Satanspawn. When one dies, their weapon and armor is handed on to either the descendant of the next line (if possible) or name selected by a magical process

The Bureau of Reckoning
Created by King Charles the Second after he returned to the throne to deal with the horrors released after the reformation 'cleansed' England of the papist witch hunters. Lead by the Witch Hunter General its headquarters are under the Palace of Westminster (aka Big Ben), the doorway only accessible to those with The Sight.

Cult of Worms
The cult of the worm in its various forms has been around since the dawn of man. Devoted to bringing the Great Worm and its brothers to earth. The worms are serpentine/crustacean entities which once resided on, and presided over, Earth. They are pitiless, chaotic, bent on destruction and subjugation and often so horrific in appearance that the mere sight of one of them sometimes induced madness. The current leader is a warped and mutated undead "Ghoul" call Irisi Sander.

Gnome Culture
Gnomes have always lived in the forests of the United Kingdom. They have adapted to change in the most intriguing way, now occupying the walled and manicured gardens of the largest estates throughout the country. Each Royal park within London has an enclave of gnomes living in their burrows just out of sight of man. Their focus is gardening, but as skilled gem cutters they have a strong association with certain families and factions within the gem trade, both in London and abroad.

Hellfire Club
The first official Hellfire Club was founded in London in 1718, by Philip, Duke of Wharton and a handful of other high-society friends. The club motto was Fais ce que tu voudras (Do what thou wilt) and it lives up to that mantra in all its forms. Sir Francis Dashwood and the Earl of Sandwich are alleged to have been a member of the Hellfire Club that met at the George and Vulture Inn throughout the 1730s. Dashwood's garden at West Wycombe contained numerous statues and shrines to different gods; Daphne and Flora, Priapus, Venus and Dionysus.

Le Carnaval of Merveille
Le Carnaval des Merveilles known simply as "The Carnival", is a travelling circus and freak-show that arrived in England in the Mid middle-ages and have been unable to leave since. It has several regular stops within the "underground" as well as parks in London and the oldest villagers in the Home counties. The current ringmaster is "The Dark" a powerful French witch, she may have been the original, but no one can remember.

The Bobbies
Beware citizens of London, the streets are dangerous when the night comes. Their are demons, monsters that bump into the night, cats, and the one of the most dangerous are the Bobbies. A bunch of men and women wearing faceless mask and the garb of a police uniform all with the name tag of Bobbies. They roam the streets, attacking anyone they see breaking curfew. No one knows they're agenda, they just appeared one day as a joke in the community, then they multiplied. They've started as crazed lunatics, and slowly became a rigid gang of thugs. They're ideals are complicated and abstract, but to boil it down, they seek a dictatorship which is veiled and hidden well. The organization is filled with zealots, and fanatics that believe in the ideals it has, they believe it's justice well. Their leader is not known to even the most highest rank members, all that's known is that they have big plans for London.

O2 Arena Club's Parade March
Rejoice Londoners, the parade is here once more as it always has. Londoners youngest and brightest O2 fans have once again hosted their very own parade. Anybody would like to bet how much of a kerfuffle this will turn out. To those new to this scene, the first O2 club wanted to commemorate the orchestra's anniversary by making a marching band and playing the various music's that O2 plays in their venues. Unfortunately, that march just had  various accidents and strange incidents happen to them, instruments started breaking, a whirlwind of trash spilled on them, and they even got attacked by UFO's once they got close to O2 Arena itself. And this kept going on, and on, and on for every fan club that decided to do the parade March, and strange incidents just keep piling up. It's basically became a tradition for the many iterations of the fan club, yet it still remains with new members and continues to make an attempt to finish their march. It's also a pretty entertaining past time for Londoners.

Aetherius Society
Founded in the mid-1950s by a former British taxi driver, Aetherius is a New Age religion whose belief systems are built around the idea that a series of "Cosmic Masters" (mostly from Venus and Saturn) control the fate of humanity. Additionally, they focus heavily on prayer and "spiritually charging" the Earth to make way for the "Next Master, a messianic figure who will descend to earth in a flying saucer armed with "magic" more powerful than the combined materialistic might of all Earths armies.

Followers of The Hooded One
There is a small but growing group that have taken to following the Hooded One. Some believe him/her to be Earths future savior others believe otherwise. There is no strict belief system, most having their own reasons for trying to gain favor with the hooded one.

Clan of the Cave Bear
After 24,000 years asleep, when Grinwald awakens, he will be hungry and that could be bad news for London.  The good news is that the cult that grew up around him, still exists.  Archaeologists believe that the land which was to become the island of Great Britain was uninhabited for the fourteen millennia of the last Ice Age but they are mistaken.  A single family remained and their descendants remain today.  The rituals have been passed down from mother to daughter since Grinwald was awake.  All of them are red haired, havy browed and with rough features.  Let us hope there are enough of them.

Church of the River God
Christianity's arrival on these islands was relatively recent and most of the old faiths have some remaining adherents.  That includes the worshippers of Old Father Thames.  Most of them are Mudlarks, making a living sifting London'd beaches for treasure when they are exposed at low tide.  Their worship and their way of life is probably harmless.

Dark Elves
Deep below the streets of London, a whole civilisation exists, in the darkness away from both streetlights and sublight.  They use stone weapons and they hunt the strange clicking and clacking invertebrates that live so far down.  They are very shy.  They may or may not have access to magic.  They are almost certainly dangerous.

Deep Line Gourmands
There is no almost about these ones.  These people are dangerous.  Their arcane rituals are a perversion of the regulations of the tube network circa 1860.  They are led by a Mr Beane, who, like many of them was born down there.  Oh yes, and did I mension, they have a taste for long pig.

Croatoan
Down below London, there is a village inhabited by the unwanted, unborn children of Londoners.  Only magic keeps them alive.  They positively STINK of magic.  They should be weak but they are not.  Neither are they sane
