House Rules

Standard FS4 rules unless otherwise noted

I am open to one or max. two alien PC's, except Shantor. They're ridiculous and can remain galloping around on their silly little plains

Characters begin at level 3. If custom character generation is desired, you will have 18 points to allocate to Characteristics, 14 Capabilities, 8 Perks, and 25 points to allocate to Skills

You can take one Affliction for an extra Perk

A detailed and excellent background and character description might be rewarded with an extra Perk as well

New Perks from the various source books might be allowed

You all begin with a full VP bank with 10 VP

Required Perks for all:
Merchant: Guild Commission (Ensign), Ingenious
Noble: Noble Title (Knight), Imperious
Priest: Church Ordination (Novitiate), Inspiring
Yeoman: Professional Reputation (Rookie), Independent

Resistance values from the rules are halved

Read and Write counts as one Capability

Vitality = Species Size (5 for humans) + level + (the highest of your Endurance, Will, or Faith)

Revivals – you regain (the highest of your Endurance, Will, or Faith) Vitality once per drama.

Cloistered and Lost Worlder Afflictions: (before Influencing, roll 1D20; 1-2 favorable, 3-15 normal, 16-20 unfavorable)

A few tips on influencing the (sometimes erratic) RPoL dice roller:

You can spend VP to improve the accuracy of your next roll: 1 VP per +1 goal, up to a limit of your highest finesse characteristic (Dexterity, Intuition, or Perception). See page 22 of the Character book.

Once per round, you can take 1 wyrd point from the troupe coffer and use it to make a single roll favorable. See page 23 of the Character book.

You can take 1 wyrd point from the troupe coffer and convert it into 3 VP. See page 23 of the Character book.

You can reduce the number rolled for your goal roll — the result from the Dice Roller – by accenting the roll down (page 35). You can reduce it after you have rolled the die and seen the result. You must spend 2 VP per -1 applied to the roll result. But you gain NO VP for that action. See page 35 of the Character book.

Oh, and if your roll is Favorable, use the Die Roller twice for 1D20 and list both results in your post.

Since we're starting at level 3, do we get more starting cash or the standard 300FB? Not counting perks, of course.

Sorry, no - but you can use perks to get more money :)   Riches and Cash for instance

Thinking of tweaking the Initiative rules; your initiative is Dexterity + Wits + level. If you're holding a prepared ranged weapon you get +5. Battle Brothers get another +3.

Highest total can act or delay their move until later.

Any action or weapon that places you Hindmost is a -10 penalty.

Thoughts?

I don't have strong feelings on it, but it seems like a reasonable system to try out.

Looks good.  Not sure I would add the level.
And what about abilities that allow you to just jump in where you want?

Still working on it. I'm in another FS game on here and have a feeling combat is about to break out. Will be taking notes. :)

New house rule; we're going to use standard rounding. Decimals below 50 will be rounded down, 50 or above will be rounded up. So half of 3 would be 1.50 which is rounded to 2.

Original number  Halved value
      1                      1
      2                      1
      3                      2
      4                      2
      5                      3
      6                      3
      7                      4
      8                      4
      9                      5
etc.

So I've been puzzling over one aspect of the VP system, which is whether you accumulate VP during a scene, i.e. do you get to keep any spare VP after each successful roll? This might have already been clear to some of you but as mentioned earlier, I'm still learning the rules :)

I asked on the Fading Suns Facebook group where there are some knowledgeable people;

So how do people normally run VP during a Scene with no combat (present tense)? Say there's a few perception rolls, some persuasion, maybe an academia check or two. Do you let VP's accumulate until the Scene ends - or are they lost after each check? I know some can go to refill the Banks and some can be converted to WP with the right perks, but just curious as to how people handle it.

This was the answer that made most sense to me;

As per pg 24 of the Character book, when you are playing in the default "present tense" scale, a players cache empties as soon as the impact of the roll is determined; therefore the most VP a PC is going to have spare will be the capacity of their Bank.

If they are expecting trouble, a lot of players (in my experience) will try to build up and maintain that Bank in readiness for when things move to "instantaneous" scale (be it a physical combat, action scene or intense social conflict) and that's no bad thing.

So, just for clarification; if you gain say 13 VP from a Perception check and then 11 more from a Persuasion check in the same Scene, you don't have 24 VP in your cache. You can fill your Bank (capacity of 10 VP) but the rest is gone again.
