Hakkonen, the capital of Leminkainen

The year is 5002. You are all currently in or close to Hakkonen, the capital of Leminkainen, a Hawkwood world on the perimeter of the Known Worlds.

Frequently raided and partially disputed by the Vuldrok, Leminkainen is a world in turmoil. Every time the jumpgate opens, people wait with baited breath to discover who is coming through, whether friend or foe, merchant or raider.

Leminkainen space is very dangerous, but, as with all dangers, there is a great opportunity for profit. Mercenaries from across the Known Worlds and Questing Knights frequently stop here as a staging area before pitting themselves against the little-known dangers of hostile space.

Newcomers to this forest world often underestimate its dangers due to its sylvan appearance, but its deadliness is respected by natives and often used to temper Hawkwood knights from less perilous planets. Baked by a red giant sun, Leminkainen’s shallow warm seas evaporate into space. The land boasts lush vegetation, but only owing to its origins in corrupt but effective super science.

Now Leminkainen teeters toward total environmental collapse despite its verdant veneer. Bizarre and often dangerous, its plant and animal life seem to be turning against the populace. Genetically engineered horrors from ages past are now resurgent in the wildlands. Green and orange spore clouds appear with little warning. The former is wildly hallucinatory; the latter is deadly, though manageable with simple breather units.

Bordering barbarian space via its jumproute to Hargard, Leminkainen long bore the brunt of Vuldrok raids. It was occupied for a time by barbarians. Their descendants still live here, maintaining what they claim is a sovereign nation. The Hawkwoods say the barbarians are deluded and only live autonomously because they allow it. Still, the forests are full of pagans who openly ignore the missionaries attempting to save their souls. Some are merely individualists, resistant to outside influence, while others are vile Antinomists who commit the most sordid of atrocities.
