Pregame Setup

Here is the thread for our discussion of everything pregame.  Here are a few questions for you:

1.  What resources would you like access to?  Any particular races/books that are out of the ordinary?  I'm pretty flexible, so don't hold back.

2.  How would you like ability scores generated?

3.  Do you have any particular house rules that you like/would want to include?

1. Primarily http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/ although I am planning on one of the characters being a Dreamthief-born Changeling Psychic, which is an Occult Adventures class and a race from Inner Sea Races and Blood of the Coven.  2 Humans (using Spheres classes to fill the roll of Tank/Healer and Skill Monkey) and a Half-Orc (Striker), with the psychic for

2. Preferably 20-25 point buy.

3. Just that classes with 2+Int Mod skill points per level instead get 4+Int Mod.  I think that's just the psychic.

That all sounds reasonable enough.  As I think I mentioned before, I'm not super familiar with Spheres of Power, so I'll do some reading, but I may also need to ask questions every so often.

Something I forgot to ask was am I good to take two traits, plus a drawback in exchange for a third?  I've picked a campaign trait (or am deciding between two in one case) for each character, and wouldn't mind two more and a flavorful drawback.

Have the skeleton of a background and personality up for my first character, the Changeling Psychic Asta Nachtmar.  She's the first tab here: https://docs.google.com/spread...wqqjIki6xoXWbUP6AZQ/

As of first level: can use telekinesis to lift and bludgeon creatures and objects, as well as catch projectiles; divine for magic, strong opinions, the presence of mental manipulation, weight, and incorporeal creatures, as well as use divination to overwhelm another creature's senses, and read magic; and either encourage calm or hostility in others.

As a dreamthief-born, she can also enter (and bring real objects into) a quasi-real dreamspace when she sleeps, gaining the full benefits of rest while reading, crafting, planning, etc.

Her psychic powers also enable her to gain a shield, deal nonlethal damage, reroll concentration checks, take wisdom damage to boost failed will saves, and boost ritual magic and the magic of allied witches, psychics, and hags.

Looks good, sounds like a fun type of character.  I've opened up the character sheets here if you would like to keep them on rpol.  Seems like you've already done some work to set up the spreadsheet, though so if you'd rather keep them there, that's fine too.

3 characters are completed mechanically, I'll work on transferring them to the sheets tonight and tomorrow.  If you could rename the characters to the following, that would be great!

Character 1 as Asta Nachtmar

Character 2 as The Usk

Character 3 as Mico Macero

Character 4 as Michus Macero

Pregame Setup

Finally got Mico finished, now I just need to sit down and finish Michus and do a final pass on the other three sheets, should be done by tomorrow.  I used the player's guide while building the characters so hopefully, the skill spread is covered reasonably well. I think their biggest struggle at this stage will be ranged combat, but anything getting within 30' is going to have a bad time.  I don't have much outside of mechanics to receive feedback on, but I've got the building blocks for a paragraph on personality and background for all 4.  The basic concept is two pairs, the Chelaxian Macero siblings and the more local magic user and her devoted bodyguard.

Actually, the Usk's flaw 'Attached' is something you're supposed to assign, but if you wouldn't mind the object of the attachment being Asta that would be top!

And the pair of reasons I started the narrative in the other thread were so that you didn't think I was giving up on either game despite slow rolling on my PCs, and because it's a brief, thematic sort of intro that doesn't rely on your PCs being 100% completed.

So I'm actually reworking everyone, I wasn't feeling the party.  Characters actually stay the same but classes change for 3 of the 4 so the traditional 4 person party feels more like it.  Asta's an Incanter now, with slight changes to her spheres.  The Usk is a pure martial character now, a Conscript proficient at melee and ranged combat.  Both are 100% crunch done.  Mico is largely unchanged and is 90% crunch done pending some copy-pasting.  Michus will still be filling the cleric role, with access to healing and buffs, and will probably be a pure sphere caster.

Sounds good.  I've done some perusal of the Spheres system, but certainly would appreciate if you would maybe give me a brief rundown of capabilities once they're done.  Anything that is significantly different from traditional systems would be good for me to know.

Can't apologize enough for the delay, but I've finally got all 4 characters complete, crunch and fluff, at the google sheets link in my last post.

edit: Ope, you were posting as I was typing this!

So, a quick rundown:

Asta has 5 spell points and can:
Create an orb of energy that deals 1d6 (2d6 for a spell point) (reflex negates) points of damage for as long as she concentrates, moving the orb up to 20' per round.

Spend a spell point to Overload a creature's senses as a standard action, dealing 1 point of damage per round, remove its ability to take action, and make it flat footed as long as she concentrates as a standard action (or move action for a spell point)

Spend 2 spell points to detect magic in a close range cone

1/day on a target: make a creature attack the nearest creature, or remove emotion effects and morale bonuses

for a spell point: grant a target rage, or remove the ability to take violent action

create a 10' zone of pushing or pulling, dragging or bull rushing people towards or away from the center of the area.

use lullaby as a spell-like ability 7 times/day

The Usk can gain martial focus after a minute of rest or a total defense action and can:
use his strength on ac and ranged attacks
make 2 ranged attacks at a -2 penalty (3 at -4 by spending focus)
make 3 attacks at a -2 penalty  (6 at -4 with focus), but a foe can dodge if they choose, halving their movement speed and gaining -3 (-4 with focus) to perception and attack rolls
spend focus to deal +1d10 damage on a ranged attack
Use handle animal to improve animal attitudes as diplomacy
use a free action every turn for -2 ac either 3 temp hp or the ability to ignore the ac penalty, allies and rough terrain on a charge, with an extra +1 to hit
spend focus during a special melee attack action to deal +2 damage
Smite a foe who has dealt hp damage to him or an ally within 24 hours

Mico can gain martial focus as above and:
create a fatiguing or diseasing inhaled poison in a cone or line
gets an armor bonus while unarmored
make 2 attacks at a -2 penalty as an attack action
spend focus after getting attack of opportunity to use acrobatics in place of AC
make stealth checks instead of disguise checks
use Int for carrying capacity, the heal skill, damage on discipline weapons
use her level as her bab when making attacks with discipline weapons
transform into a Small serpent with a Con poison bite attack at will as a full round action

Michus has 6 spell points and can:
spend a spell point to cure 2d8+2 hp (or fill a pool of 14 points that can then be used to heal

grant 1 temp hp as a standard action

spend a spell point to remove or lessen certain conditions

project a 20' aura that gives +1 to friendly d20 rolls and -1 enemy d20 rolls

link 2 people so when an enemy hits one, the other gets +2 to hit

fill a pool with points allies can spend to move 5' as a free action that provokes AoOs





That should be just about everything they can do!

Bleh.  My fiance and I got into yardwork and it took most the day.  I'm ready to post the intro thread, but my question is, are the characters all together pre-adventure?  It seems at least 2 of them would be, but the intro post will be them receiving letters, and I want to ensure it's written properly, based on whether everyone would be in one place, or scattered.

Pregame Setup

Two sets of two, Asta and the Usk together and the siblings Macero together.  Something I hadn't considered: the Usk has the Attached drawback, and it's GM choice on the source of the attachment but I hoped you'd consider making it Asta.

 I'll get another post in the other game before I turn in for the night.

Hey, I'm just checking in again to see if you're up for continuing.  It's okay if not, but if we aren't going to proceed, I'd like to find a new game to invest in.  If I don't hear back in the next three days or so, I'll go ahead and assume we're not continuing.
