Edwards Diary
I think I should start with my philosophy of our shared hobby. D&D is a team sport. Everyone on the team has a role. I'm going to use a Basketball analogy because I played in Jr. High and High school. I'm white so I can't jump, big surprise, but I was the starting point guard. My job was not scoring, rather I was the "shot caller" the play maker. My job was assisting. I usually take that philosophy into a game, my job isn't causing damage, but rather pointing out targets and buffing allies/debuffing enemies. I play Lore bards most often as they make wonderful shot callers. I am experimenting with this character, a Hexbard, more of a nova damage build. In my analogy this character is best thought of as a shooting guard, the opposite of a point guard. A fighter makes the best center, whose job is to "own the paint" scoring and blocking others from scoring. A monk makes the best Power Forward, who charges into the paint to help the center or stay 10ish feet back for short jumpers like Larry Byrd. Then you have the small forward, who has all the skills of the other players and can do everything. Wizards make the best but our team's should probably be Wratchet.
I am not disputing Ed's player. It is important here to understand that. It is why most people write in 3rd person when writing In Character. It differentiates you from character, both in the minds of other players and in your own mind. I am speaking strictly of the character, Edward T Wheeler.
Ed's player can play him any way he chooses, that is his right. What is bothering me is that he doesn't seem to be a team player. Whatever position he wants to play is fine, I can play whichever you guys want as well. I just want to make sure we are a team, okay?
