Other Important Places

Clarines

Dream Rock’s closest neighbor and closest ally, Clarines is a sprawling metropolis known for its vast woodlands and military might. Significantly larger than Dream Rock, Clarines is divided into nine separate districts, or baronies, each as populated as the entirety of Dream Rock itself. Given this disparity in size and population, it is little wonder that Dream Rock is often seen as little more than a member state of Clarines.

Clarines is a hereditary monarchy, though the bloodroyal Blodestones are known to be blessed by Sappochor and every Blodestone completes a full novitiate dedicated to one of Sappochor’s aspects. Sappochor is, naturally, the primary deity of Clarines, though other deities--especially Catchkeep--are welcome. There are a few small cults to the Drowned Gods and the Lost/Dead Gods, and even a few worshippers of the Smiling God.

Clarines is currently ruled by Izana Blodestone. Their ommer, High Canon Tesserree, is the head of the Church of Sappochor and their sibling, Canon Louen, serves in the High Temple.

Seafall

Seafall is currently neutral to Dream Rock. Though historically, they allied with Dream Rock and Clarines against the invasion of Hoel-Brak, several decades ago a new Blackbird Bride ascended to the throne and Seafall’s relations with the alliance that had defeated the flying city of Hoel-Brak cooled.

Seafall is a closely built coastal city that towers above its lands. It is a true theocracy, ruled by the Sovereign Carnifex of the Church of the Carrion King, usually styled as the Blackbird Bride, and her Parliament of Rooks, four and twenty of her espoused kin. The current Blackbird Bride is known to favor magic users of all varieties, and dozens of magic users apply to her court every day in the hopes of joining her Parlement.

Rata-Sum

Rata-Sum’s relationship with Dream Rock is…complicated. Before the fall of the Soaring Spires and Sky Palaces of Hoel-Brak, Rata-Sum was little more than a traveling tent city. Populated by nomadic laborers whose lives were dedicated to supplying Hoel-Brak’s excesses, they weren’t exactly displeased when the armies of Dream Rock, Clarines, and Seafall brought the sky wizards down to earth. The devastation brought to their lands, however, crippled them for decades.

Today, Rata-Sum is known as a city of scholars and archaeologists, dedicated to excavating the ruins of the fallen towers of Hoel-Brak. While it is a place of learning, Rata-Sum is not a place of magic. To bring Hoel-Brak down, the alliance destroyed the magic keeping their palaces aloft. That working lingers still, creating a field of anti-magic that blankets most of the lands Rata-Sum now claims.
