I was raised to revere the kami of the Forest of Spirits and act as a messenger for them, but primarily Daikitsu (as with many kitsune) is the host of the pantheon.  At this stage, it's more a habit than a true reverence, but it would feel wrong to besmirch them at any rate.

I need the following information for any living family members that you have:

Name:
Relationship: e.g. Mother, Father, Cousin, etc.
Notes: Brief synopsis of what they do for a living, where they live, and status of your relationship with them (e.g. Have dinner at their place every night, I wronged them and they want revenge, I know they exist but never met them, etc.)

In reply to GM (msg # 46):

Sorry, missed the post and went to visit a friend for a couple days.

Family Relationship:
Everyone cares for each other fairly normally, swings of happiness to stifling to comfy again.  Mother and Father care deeply for each other.  Siblings are all close, but it occasionally leads to typical fights, followed by a tearful hug or handshake.  The siblings have a cease fire on pranking each other after a particularly devastating mistake known as "The Noodle Incident" and nothing more.  This doesn't stop lame jokes.

Father:
Noble of minimal influence, often sent around to relay messages in an official capacity to others in the community or to oversee trivial matters like harvests or tax tallying so rarely home.  Treats his children fairly detached and independent.  Only really upset with Elde Kon because of his wife.

Mother:
Matron of the household, occasionally serves as messenger, but often manages the dispatching of others, including some of her children.  Angry but heartbroken Elde Kon left the trade for a life wandering the world.

Siblings:
-Older Brother:
Regular messenger for the kami of distinguished work, managing many more messages than the others with his years of duty.  Indifferent to Elde Kon leaving because, "Maybe that's what the kami wanted.  We don't always get to hear each other's messages."
-Younger Sister:
Very infrequent messenger for the kami, more often found performing in towns around their Angen settlements; getting to know the native races like humans or elves.  Mother isn't pleased with her lax attitude toward serving as a messenger, but at least has sympathy for the Angen's goals and permits the performances.  Sister is saddened that Elde Kon split off to do his own thing, but understands the need to be alone sometimes.
-Youngest Sister:
Still a young kid before Elde Kon left and now into her mid teens.  Idolizes him because "he was the coolest" and then left.  Is secretly preparing her own escape to try and follow in his footsteps.  Or at least the ideal of his path to understand the world.  Mostly just trying to catch up to see him again though.

Elde Kon has no particular relationship with any kami that he knows of, having never been presented before them in the past or made to carry messages for anyone stated to be one.  Several friends remain behind, but are too happy where they are to go looking for him and hope for his return.  Others have essentially cut ties in kind, not even associating with his siblings.

Feynt Character Creation

So the following is taken from various Pathfinder sources (Jade Regent Adventure Path - Forest of Spirits p.63-67, PF1E Dragon Empires Gazetteer p.23, PF1E Bestiary 3 p.159-165, and Lost Omens Ancestry Guide p.122) and coalesced into something of a workable summary of the kami stuff.

First and foremost, the kami are interested in maintaining the balance of the natural world. This maintenance comes in the form of protecting the various creatures and things on the Material Plane that are often unable to protect themselves.

The kami are everywhere in Minkai, and are less common as you get further from that nation. With them virtually unheard of in Inner Sea Region.

While the type of kami will indicate their individual physical power there is no hierarchy or political structure that indicates any sort of social ranking. The only possible exception is the unique creatures known as kami lords, though this title seems to be a classification created by mortals.

Kami are, generally speaking, good creatures that are only interested in protecting their wards and following the dictates of the Laws of Golden Perfection, which affect every aspect of the conduct of kami and their interaction with the world and its inhabitants.

Humanoid communities in Tian Xia have many different types of relationships with kami, and these variations are often related to the way in which a community interacts with its surrounding environment. Settlements that depend on cooperation with nature, such as those of farmers and herders, tend to coexist peacefully with kami. Citizens of these cooperative settlements often construct roadside shrines to kami, where they provide offerings of incense, rice, wheat, milk, and so on. In these communities, nearby areas of wilderness are frequently honored by the people with celebrations and festivals intended to foster harmony with the neighboring kami. Most such festivals occur at the beginning of planting and harvest seasons. Cooperative communities frown on outsiders who do not show proper respect for the natural world or violate sacred areas, seeing this as a direct assault on the safety of their homes and the kami they live with.

Communities that sap the land via exploitation or extraction—such as through mining, fishing, or logging—tend to have tense relationships with neighboring kami. In these locales, shrines are often forbidding places, visited by designated representatives who bear offerings composed of materials that were taken from nature. For instance, those living near an iron mine may leave a dagger or bowl of arrowheads. Local ceremonies are geared toward appeasement of the spirits rather than thanking them, and dour festivals are intended only to avert kami’s capricious wrath. Outsiders who anger local kami are treated with hostility for bringing misfortune upon a community, and the communities often demand recompense.

Places with naturally adversarial relationships with their environments—most notably urban centers—have difficulty maintaining relationships with kami. These larger settlements often try to appease kami in little ways, such as by constructing parks within city limits to placate the spiritual beings. More often, however, such communities resort to violence against kami, whom they see as enemies of progress or their industrial efforts. These settlements often place emphasis on setting up barriers and protections against kami, characterizing them as backward-minded monsters bent on destruction.

Of course, even communities that have hostile relations with kami of the forest, rivers, and hills may have better connections with the kami of inanimate objects, such as dosojins and zuishins. An urban scholar may have a playful and cooperative relationship with a book kami or the kami of a library, and a blacksmith might work closely with a furnace kami.

One thing that is common across all of these types of communities is that there are rarely direct interactions with kami. So long as they are appeased they remain content to watch from afar or remain completely hidden. It's only when beings actively pursue the destruction of the kami's wards in ways that are contradictory to the ways of nature, do they take action to avenge or defend.

Oracles, druids and rangers are the mortals who are most likely to interact with kami in any sort of consistent and meaningful way. These classes have similar mindsets and goals as the kami and will work as mediators and ambassadors between the spirits and the mortal communities/individuals. Generally, this is done as a preventative measure to ensure there isn't anything done to dishonor the kami, but sometimes there is a need for emergency appeasement or warning.

Beyond these classes, only the Souko kitsune have dedicated relations with kami. These kitsune serve as couriers, diplomats, and translators between distant kami, especially the ancient kami lords known as jinushigami. They facilitate communication among the kami, operate as traveling mediators among the settlements of northern Minkai and eastern Hongal, where they liaise with other mortal peoples on behalf of the spirits.

Their small settlement within the Forest of Spirits, Kihime, seamlessly blends their brightly colored buildings into the surrounding forest. It is one of the few townships that exist within the forest and is filled with shrines to the kami and the sounds of kitsune learning the ways of the kami and engaging in their penchant for practical jokes. While the residents of Kihime have no need for money they are often the recipients of gifts from grateful communities that they have helped and it is these gifts that supply the town with trade goods and tools to utilize in the day-to-day maintenance of the town itself.

Kihime operates more like a spiritual retreat and artist commune than a proper town. There is no need for laws or political posturing beyond those of the Laws of Golden Perfection, though heavily watered down for the mortals to understand. While the Souko tend to strongly separate their internal and outwardly expressed feelings, this is not the case when they are at home in Kihime, here they are able to live as they wish and grow their bonds with the kami and the members of their community.

Souko kitsune are encouraged to travel and interact with both mortals and kami. They are not given any specific tasks or routes when they travel, they simply follow their own whims looking for signs of potential conflicts between the mortal communities and the kami they come across. Areas of known conflict are often prioritized over newer regions, however. When they feel the need to return to Kihime, they will insure they have plenty of tales and information to bring with them.

Though an uncommon occurrence, there are times when the Souko are given specific tasks by a kami, whether this happens while they are in Kihime or when they encounter a kami in their travels, the kitsune who are given this task immediately prioritize it over anything else they may have been doing at the time. These tasks are never predictable and which kitsune is approached with the task is just as unknowable, though a Souko kitsune is far more likely to be the one selected over any other.

Feynt Character Creation

In reply to GM (msg # 48):

While I acknowledge that there's no hierarchy among the kami (outside of relative strength and what each claims as their ward, which may encompass other kami and their wards; for example a kami of a forest creature living within the forest a jinushigami claimed as its ward), hierarchies would have formed in the settlements (villages and towns) around the kami and those who could placate them should things begin to turn, or butter them up should a boon be required (such as a more bountiful harvest, or safe travels for the settlement's trade caravans).

Souko kitsune (per the reading I've done) are typically mediators for other settlements and the kami who are affecting them, trying to ensure peace and acting as a messenger between both parties when either or both are too frightened/angry/aloof to talk with the other properly (or are incapable of conventional or common speech, as may be the case with some kami).

The intention for my family is that mother and father had been quite involved Souko kitsune and did their part communicating the will of the kami of the forest to those towns along the spirit road acting a bit too self important, along with working with inner settlements to maintain balance in nature and peace in the forest.  Eventually though they settled down in a medium sized town mostly based around farming grains as they had found they spent a lot of time coming to this place anyway to resolve disputes or quell angry kami and townsfolk alike.  Having settled, the townsfolk were overjoyed, but the leadership only barely acknowledged it by giving father some token leadership role and title to some land "out there near the forest" (with the subtext of "and out of our hair") so they could continue to act as mediators while also contributing by doing "important tasks to manage the village" (like all the menial administrative tasks).

In short, they settled on a small plot of land and get paid well enough to live comfortably as long as they keep everyone alive and well.

Mother and father are both still devoted to the Souko lifestyle, both showing little emotion.  Father presents a calm veneer in his day to day and at best a warm smile or scowl among his family and friends.  Mother is a typical perfectionist, demanding better from her children in whatever they do, and only ever betraying her emotions when Elde Kon comes up in conversation.

Elde Kon's elder brother sees it as an important role and has trained under his mother as well as going back to Kihime now and then to take over his parents' role in the future and shows great aptitude in diplomacy, able to at least get opposing parties to talk to each other and can quickly twist their words to make one side happy while locking the other into acting benevolent and unable to do more than back up "their" meaning with slight backpedaling and rules that both parties can agree to.  His success rate at placating both kami and settlement alike in even tense situations where people have been harmed for encroaching on the forests too much is extremely high and even in Kihime he is talked about as "a shining example of our cause."

He tends to be muted though, as many Souko kitsune are, rarely exhibiting strong emotions and mostly just accepting things are how they are and trying to navigate the situations life presents.

The eldest sister is more of a bard than a straight up diplomat like her eldest brother.  Charismatic, but not promiscuous, she uses her wiles to draw attention and be disarming with song and dance.  Initially this meant going out to aid as a messenger and then wandering off afterward to nearby towns further South who weren't as familiar with or trusting of kitsune to improve their relationships.  When Elde Kon was contemplating leaving, him being unhappy with the Souko (and family) dedication to being mediators, she jumped at the opportunity and accompanied him out of the forest of spirits to Angen.  They both became citizens of Angen, but she spends much of her time visiting settlements further and further abroad to do her shows, staying in Angen satellite settlements for a time between performances before returning to Angen for a few weeks.  Despite her leaving home though, she returns at least once a year to give updates and will help out with a few messenger tasks her mother gives to her.  She makes a decent living as an "ambassador to kitsune kind", but doesn't make

She's often bubbly and energetic, but when she returns from a "tour" to her home she will often spend at least a day being an unimpassioned mass of fuzz in bed, emerging from her adopted cocoon only to deal with life's inconveniences.  Emotionally she's an all or nothing person:  Be fully committed to expressing yourself, or switch off and be almost vegetative.

The youngest sister is a typical young teen and likes to help, but doesn't want to follow in the footsteps of her parents or her eldest brother, and finds the mostly quiet farming town extremely boring (as all young kids do when there isn't enough entertainment).  Basically the only people who were able to keep her entertained as a child were her older sister and Elde Kon.  That's why, when they left, she considered him amazing for breaking out of the plan their parents had for him and even now plans to follow him out into the world.  Every story her sister brought back about their exciting life in the vibrant Angen settlements emboldened her as she got slightly older.  The eventual news that her brother had left to do his own thing and see the world had her worried for a moment, but she steadfastly clings to the idea that he's alive, well, and seeing even more amazing and beautiful things, and desires to see them too.

She is precocious, but still plays her age for most people.  Her siblings are the only ones who know her relative maturity (16 "going on 60" at this time, 5 when Elde Kon left according to timeline), and her sister is the only one partly aware she's considering leaving when she gets older, if only because she's a voracious knowledge seeker who absorbs every story she's told about the world beyond the forest.
