Elves in the city and the Lumber Wars.
The Lumber Wars have lasted about half a year so far, there have been failures and successes on both sides. The elves very much preferring to use hit and run tactics and Coin's mercenary sticking to more traditional war tactics. With groups of infantry supported by archers, but no real ability to use cavalry as the fighting is happening mostly in the woods themselves.
This has led to pretty much a stalemate where the elves control the woods, the humans the area outside the woods. The only problem is the humans want to control at least some of the woods but that is proving costly. There are two fortified camps that the humans still hold, but that face weekly raids or harassments.
Not long after the start of the war most elves, even those not from the Adrassi tribe, left Coin, some half elves stayed but also face persecution. Likewise non-elves living in the Adrassi forest also left the woods. There are still some elves in Coin, but very few. Often elves from distant lands who turned up on ships, or stubborn elves whose families have lived in Coin for centuries and refuse to flee their home.
With loses mounting among the Coin forces there is a natural hostility towards elves, and any elven run establishments. Being an elf in itself however is not illegal. Carrying weapons is allowed within Coin city, but is possibly a reason for being questioned by the watch. Or at least getting their attention. An elf carrying a weapon is guaranteed to get the city watch attention, and perhaps even more ire from the local populace.
