Game Concept

Background
Xavier's Academy for Gifted Youths is a school that has been in New York for 15 years. It
trained mutants to be able to use their powers and ultimately graduate to become members of his own personal peacekeeping force that tries to stop violence between mutants and humans. For years it has relied on the students to undertake the easier missions. The school has been attacked many times, and a recent attack was by an alien nano-technological organism called the Phalanx that is capable of assimilating people and using their knowledge and skills for its own ends. However its assimilation technique does not work on mutants as of yet.

During the attack, the Phalanx hacked into the school's computer system in order to get the names and locations of mutants that were being considered for enrollment at the school. Although the list initially contained over 50 names, Hank McCoy was able to delete most of the information from the system, but not before the Phalanx gathered 6 names.

Those 6 children were then captured and gathered onto a ship in the middle of the Atlantic so that the Phalanx could practice its assimilation techniques on fledgeling mutants who did not yet have enough mastery of their powers to really fight back. Ultimately, in order to save the others, one girl named Clarice sacrificed herself by "blinking" both herself and the Phalanx out of existence, ending its threat at the cost of her own life.

The five survivors were then brought back to land. Rather than attending Xavier's school, Emma Frost offered to take charge of the young mutants. Her family had taken possession of a private school in Snow Valley Massachusetts, a small town about an hours drive from Boston. She had previously been training a group of mutants to become soldiers for the Hellfire Club known as Hellions before the Hellfire Club was defeated and she and her students surrendered to the X-Men. Now that the school had no students, and the recent attack on the New York Campus had proven the threat of keeping all mutants in a single location, she offered to take on the high school class.

Unfortunately that left the school with only 5 students, only 10% of those that Xavier had planned to offer enrollment to. The data on the rest of the intended students was lost, and worse still-- Charles Xavier was killed in a recent misadventure. The X-Men have their hands full dealing with the Brotherhood and keeping the more wayward students at their University in check. Thus it is up to the students themselves to head out and gather up as many classmates as they can.

Between dealing with friction between the members and raging hormones, will the students be successful in saving their fellow teenage mutants and expanding their roster?

Major Canon Departure
The game takes place in an unspecified time period between 2010s. Feel free to have the characters using modern technology and making modern references.

Basically any mutant characters who could be alive are alive (I mean, most get brought back anyway) and groups like X Force, Hellions and Mutant Liberation Front have all more or less gotten folded into Xavier's School. But that's all happening in New York. But any of them could guest star in a story arc.

Rotating Cast Concept
The game will involve phases going from "hang out at the mansion" to "scouting mission". Players, rather than wholly identifying throughout the game as a single character, are more like collaborative staff writers. So at the beginning of each mission or social scene, you can choose any character not currently being written for any take control of them for that scene.

While you can choose to consistently write for the same character, if you find the character isn't working for you or you don't think you can accomplish anything during the scene, then you'll be able to switch characters soon enough. You'll also be able to switch in cases where the character you write for gets captured, knocked out or otherwise indisposed, you can keep participating by picking up one of the free characters and trying to save them.

As you complete the missions, more characters will become available for you to choose from. Players will get to choose when each mission happens if you are looking forward to being able to pick up a certain character then it would be best to push for the mission where the team can meet that character. But, be warned! If you make truly terrible choices during the mission then the character may not end up enrolling in the school or could become an enemy or even die!
