The Protectors (Synopsis of the gods of this world)

The Protectors
Overview

The Protectors are the gods of this universe. They possess nigh-omnipotent abilities and are responsible for the birth of the mortal races. In addition, up until just a few hundred years before the events of Heavenfall, they all lived in their various shrines and walked among the mortal races. Naturally their children flocked to them and praised them as gods despite their insistence that they were nowhere near as great.

Had it not been for the decree of Akachi to remain out of the dealings of mortal politics then the Protectors may very well have run their own countries. Instead cities were erected around their shrines. The people would pray to their protectors and ask for guidance, but this too became outlawed by Akachi. Akachi would not allow the Protectors, beings who were almighty, solve the trivial issues of the mortals. He did not feel it was right so to prevent meddling even further he ordered the gods to construct much more elaborate homes to hide themselves in.

Thus the outer planes were born a series of portals that connected to Aereos through fire. The Protectors would then watch on from the background, outside the reach of their children, and occasionally, when they thought their children lacked the strength to prevail in their lives, they would provide small miracles for them.

For those who wished to still see their gods the planes were still accessible to those who proved themselves worthy to the Protectors. Large stone doors were hidden deep in the shrines dedicated to the Protectors. These doors protected the knowledge needed to access the realm of the Protectors. Many have died just attempting to see the Protectors. However, the demons were able to make their way through these shrines and this rare form of Divine Magic is used by hunters across the globe.

All that remains of the Protectors now is the petrified statue of Akachi and the Demon God Leader on the northern continent. The northern continent, after eons of war and demonic corruption, is a place both demons and mortals can't reach without risking radiation or corruption. The rest of the pantheon of Protectors and Demon Gods remain imprisoned in a battlefield of their own design that rests in the sky like a second moon. The rest of the pantheon of Protectors and Demon Gods remain imprisoned in a battlefield of their own design that rests in the sky like a second moon. It is a black orb that ripples from the impacts of the fighting inside of it. An ominous haze drifts off of it and into the outer dredges of space.

All that remains of the Protectors now is the petrified statue of Akachi and the Demon God Leader on the northern continent. A place the demons can't reach and only a worthy mortal can.

List of Protectors
Akachi: Protector of Order
Info: As the Protector of Order Akachi was tasked with keeping the natural balance of Aereos. To do so he used his force of personality to command his siblings and his wisdom to guide the mortals of Aereos. Without his interference the groves of trees would overrun the mortals, the realm of the afterlife would overflow with souls, and magic would run wild. By limiting the actions of his siblings and advising the mortals on their course of action Akachi is able to prevent chaos.

Aroa: Protector of Time
Info: Aroa is always tired. Her eyes never shut for she is constantly watching the multitude of timelines that exist to be ready for disaster. Out of the sisters Aroa is seen as the most wise which is further supported by her ability to see the future. She is involved for most of the creations of the mortal races and due to that is looked at as a goddess of fertility. Praying to Aroa is sure to help you have a smooth pregnancy.

Taika: Protector of Magic
Info: Taika is the most whimsical of the Protectors, but also the most powerful. She is responsible for the systems of magic that permeate Aereos and all things that live on it. The ancient tongue used to create spells was created by her and she (with the guidance of her brother Akachi) governs what is possible through magic. After the creation of the Outer Planes Taika was one of the few Protectors who continuously wandered Aereos.

Takumi: Protector of Sea and Sky
Info: Takumi was a soft giant who took care of animals. From his waters the came the great monsters that roam Aereos and create its ecosystem. He has spent hours handcrafting each of his beasts and does not unleash them on to Aereos as a plague, but rather as an aide to the mortal races. Before Heavenfall he would bestow the miracle of inspiration on those researching his beasts to help mortals understand them more.

Yun: Protector of Life & Death
Info: A stern mother figure who guides those going from the living to the dead (and vice-versa). She closely watches and guides her children in attempt to raise them to be her reapers when they pass. With her ability to walk in the shadows she is one of the few Protectors that Akachi struggles to wrangle in. The Aixue people, her blood children, almost exclusively worship her.

Daichi: Protector of Nature
Info: The father of the Humans, Aixue, and Rustails. He is the defender of nature and thus actually works very closely with his brother Takumi. To ensure the survivability of his children Daichi has carefully crafted the biomes of the world to support them. Precious ores to build weapons and armor, fruits to feed them, and beasts to hunt. He is known to like tea as an offering and if left at his shrine it will be gone the next morning.

Duilio: Protector of War and Forge
Info: Duilio's responsibilities are harsh. As a protector of war he is tasked with overseeing the battles of the mortal races. However, War has not always been a subject when it came to the mortal races, but it is one that he was given immense knowledge of. Sometimes, when Duilio understood the consequences of a War were much too dire, he would personally train a warrior to turn the tides of battle. Many innovations in weapons were sparks of inspiration he has given others.

Lykke: Protector of Luck
Info: Art of Lykke always depicts her two halves. The first; a very confident blonde haired woman with a smile plastered on her face. She moved through the world with glee and doubted anything could harm her. The second; A woman with a devilish grin and black hair. Flowers wilted in her path, black cats followed her, glass shattered, and people feared her. Lykke was unique in that people did not wish to pray to her or ask for her help because they never knew which one they were speaking to. However, her shrines were gigantic castles and often she would roam the halls of these giant empty buildings. If you could catch the blonde Lykke she would grant you one wish, but if the dark haired Lykke caught you she would toss you out the nearest window. Regardless of its height.
