Where did it all go wrong?

There have been supers for a long time before...now. Alpha-man, the strange visitor from another world was one of the most famous. He certainly was the first costumed superpowered vigilante. After him, others came, and then more. Soon, the world had many superhumans-from all over the world. Some from other worlds.

It was then, after a right wing shift in world politics, the newest WMD was superhumans. The new arms race was super powers. The lines between good and evil began to blur. Then someone managed to make contact with the 'Cancerverse'.

Some lunatic used dimensional travel to open a gate to a world without death. Maybe they wanted to end suffering. Maybe they wanted to use it as a political threat. Maybe they where just thinking they had met God.

Whatever the reason, the tiny pinprick into the Cancerverse opened, and the world's hero Alpha-Man charged in to stop it. A bit unwisely it seemed, as he had not faced a real challenge in decades. He was the first infected, and became patient Zero. From him, he infected the other members of the Justice Brigade. Then the disaster could not be stopped.

While for the general public, being infected by the Cancerverse resulted in becoming a regenerating, ever-starving berserker. For superhumans it was worse. They retained their intelligence as long as they had regular doses of living flesh. Alpha-Man and the others began collecting their former friends and loved ones in an effort to keep them alive. However, the hunger could not be denied, and the madness set in.

Now the earth is a shattered husk of what it once was. Granted, without humanity consuming its resources it has prospered. But only small amount of survivors remain, struggling to live. From their numbers come other superhumans-but the risks are great. While those enpowered can fight off the infected, they are targeted by Alpha-Man and his ilk. For consumption, or conversion.
