Conference room B-Team Starmind

Once again, the familiar room is arrayed with chairs around the table. Same as before, Thinkmaster's ethereal head hovers in the center. "Greetings Team Starmind." She says in her flat tone. "We have been given a possible clue at the location of the Night Watchman. As you may know, the World's greatest detective has not been seen since Alpha Man attacked and infected the Justice Brigade. If the man is infected, he has not taken any victims personally that we are aware of-unlike every other member expect Blur.

It is possible he is not infected and is in hiding, or is infected and has managed to somehow keep the hunger at bay through his own means. Ether way, we need to find out. If Alpha Man's forces have access to his tactical mind, we will quickly be discovered and destroyed. If he can be brought to us as an ally, it would be a major success against the forces of the infected."

Her head changes into a map of Gothamite City, a place formerly know for its crime, corruption, chaos. Night Watchman's own home town.

"The message we managed to get was located here..." The hologram focuses on one alley, seemingly in the theater distract. "Unofficially called murder row, it was the place where a famous family was gunned down. We believe the message was to start some sort of dialogue with the Freebooters. However, it was coded-perhaps so others could not intercept the message. Our own experts believe it comes from the Night Watchman however. Like other cities without the shield, Gothamite seems to have been overrun with the infected. However, there is a very large survior community that exists without shielding and without Freebooter help. We have not been in contact with this group of survivors, so we don't know how they managed to stay alive all this time."

Thinkmaster's head appears again, floating next to the map. "Any questions?"

13 had a bunch of things go right over her head but only one thing registered.  It was time for an adventure and that is something she liked.  "No questions here."  13 said with a big smile.

Sam walked into the conference room with 13 and she takes a seat, then Thinkmaster came on and talked about their next mission. " Ok so we try and find the Night Watchman, and check on the group of survivors, sounds good to me."

Listening as Thinkmaster described their next venture, Schism couldn't help but wonder what could possibly have kept the Night Watchman from intervening if he hadn't fallen to the Infection.  In a world with as many exceptional talents as theirs, one didn't achieve a title like 'Greatest Detective' without truly monumental skill, and it was hard to imagine such a pivotal figure not making an appearance by now if he still fought for humanity.  "Was any part of the message comprehensible?  It might help us narrow down our search once were on the ground if they referred to landmarks of any kind."  He queried, tapping a fingertip against the tabletop as he considered how they might go about finding a true master of concealment.  The possibility of opening communication with another community was also worth consideration, though he had to wonder if things were being left unsaid.  "Have any attempts been made to reach out to the community in Gothamite before now?"

"Due to the internet blackout and the takedown of mass communications trying to make contact has been very difficult. Much like the Freebooters, the survivor community is very wary of outsiders who could reveal their location to the alpha infected. We have a theory that they have managed some sort of hidden headquarters that allows a similar protection that the Freebooters enjoy. However, it is mostly theory.

As for the message, our codebreakers took weeks to manage to get a location for the meeting in question. Given your team's transportation ability, strength, and familiarity with the heroes of old you would be the best Freebooters for this mission."

Sam smiled and added," Ok so we need a plan to get in safely, I think she means me for the strength part, I cant teleport, and I dont know heroes of old." Sam then relaxed and listened to what was going to be next her haor flowing around her like a waiting snake to strike.

"I see, we'll have to put our best effort into making a good impression then."  The psychic mused, nodding once a bit distractedly as the floating green image of a face offered its own theories.  Approaching a group of isolated, likely paranoid, survivors wasn't going to be easy, but it likely wouldn't be any worse than most of the interactions he'd had with people topside before joining the Freebooters.  "The Watchman was a little above my paygrade back in the day, but I spent enough time around others to know the basics at least."  Schism added, a little uptick at one side of his lips offered up as he filled in the last of the trifecta Thinkmaster had described.

In reply to Schism (msg # 8):

"More importantly, the Night Watchmen will know of you. That is a powerful fact that can be used to win his trust. With your telepathic abilities, you will be able to find the results you need to track him down." Thinkmaster points out. "Do you three have any other questions?"

13 still being the most inexperienced shakes her head to the 'any other questions' as honestly she did not.  She hopes that the others with more experience do and will trust them in that regards.  She still beams with exuberance mainly as this will be another adventure.

At Thinkmaster's explanation the little half smile Schism had managed was soon wiped away as he heard her plan.  "I will certainly...try."  The psychic offered, the uncertainty he felt at the notion of their success relying on his telepathy furrowing his brow and adding just a hint of tension to his tone.  If they could get in range he supposed he had a better chance than most of locating the notoriously elusive Watchman, the psionic echo-location he'd worked out was reliable enough for that at least, but the blunt battering ram of a power he had now would almost certainly falter if any delicate questioning were expected.  Folding his hands together on the tabletop, Schism shook his head slightly to deny any further questions as he settled back, willing to wait and see what their orchestrator had in mind.

"I've got a little prep work to do for this mission.  I'll be in the market if you need anything."  Schism offered, rising from the table and heading out with a little wave over his shoulder as a goodbye.  It was a bit ironic to think that so soon after reaffirming that he wasn't going to get back into costume he'd have to try and emulate just that, but life was a bitch that way sometimes.  Heading up to the area where the Freebooters more crafty denizens gathered, he called up every memory he could find of his old logo and set out in search of someone who could recreate it.

OOC: Schism is going to try and find someone who can make him a badge sized version of his old Notion emblem to use as an identifier.  While it's quite possible someone like the Watchman (assuming he has batman level abilities) might know of his real identity and even know what he looks like, it's probably wiser to have something to reinforce it just in case he wasn't worth looking that deeply into.

In reply to Schism (msg # 14):

Schism not only finds the emblem...he finds a lot of them. When he moves to the bizarre which is full of people and booths of goods, he sees them. On hats. T shirts. Jackets. Boots even. Some of the vendors actually seem to recognize him. Some of them offer him product if he will just sign other clothing items. Also some people ask him if he will give their children invisibility from the infected...which he really can't do.

Fixing a smile into place as the vendors and the crowd recognized him for the person he used to be, Schism made his way through the throng with as much grace as he could martial.  The ones asking for signatures in return for their work got a little extra attention, his reluctance to help them prey on their fellow survivor's nostalgia warring with the knowledge that it was about as close as he was likely to get to a fair deal.  That hesitance was nothing compared to the ones who ask for the impossible, the hollow feeling their hopeful expressions leaving in him hidden behind a mask of cheerful good-humor.  "Stick with the Freebooters, work hard to keep your fellows safe, and they'll likely never need it!"  He promised, aiming for warmth and a bit of the charm he'd once been known for as he ruffled hair and slipped past.

This was one of the many reasons he tended to avoid the more civilian-friendly areas of the compound.  He and Iron Tiger hadn't been big enough to get national fame, but they'd made enough noise, and been good enough at perpetuating their little war on the gangs, to get their names on the front page back home.  Those papers were long since past; rotting out in the Infection dominated streets above probably, but sometimes the headlines stuck just enough for people desperate to pin their hopes on something familiar to pull them back up.

Avoiding any use of his abilities as the crowd pressed in, aware that it would only take one slip of his control over his frequency to give someone a headache or worse, he picked through the goods on display until he found a belt buckle as close to his original design as he could.  Finding a plain cover to go over top was a little harder, but doable with the range of salvaged and repurposed goods the Freebooters had on offer.  Neither was perfect of course, but it should serve, and if nothing else it was a small comfort to have a reminder of just how far he'd once gone.  Doing his part in turn to pay back the purchases, and signing a few of the items pressed into his hands in the process, Matthias kept his fears and weariness hidden behind a familiar mask of good-humor as he wondered how different their reactions might be if they felt the difference in the power that lurked behind his eyes.
