Prologue: Assemblage of the Order

On the west side of the Long Road, just south of the inn’s stable yard, stands what looks like a grand stone mansion. Two wide wooden doors painted with the symbols of many gods stand open day and night. Inside is a plain chapel with a stone altar (building map). It is a simple and unassuming building, but there is a sense of peace and serenity that surrounds it. The door creaks as it opens, revealing a dimly lit interior. The pews are made of rough-cut wood and the altar is adorned with wildflowers. Sunlight filters through the windows, casting a warm and colorful glow throughout the chapel. The chapel has a peaceful and serene atmosphere, inviting all who enter to leave their worries and troubles behind.

The Allfaiths Shrine is a wayside shrine used by many faiths and owned by none. Priests shuttle out from Waterdeep in pairs for month-long stays. Each pairing includes priests of two different faiths arranged by Waterdhavian temples. The most frequent combinations are Sune and Selune, Tymora and Lathander, and Tempus and Oghma.

As you enter the shrine, a priest enters from one of back rooms, his hardy features stern and his voice filled with a respectful demeanor.
Well met, travelers. I am Imdarr Relvaunder, current caretaker of the Allfaiths Shrine. Our peace stands on a sharp sword this morning. How may I be of assistance?"

Prologue: Assemblage of the Order

T'saryn rose early, just before dawn, to ensure plenty of time for her morning meditation and exercises. Just because she had left the familiarity of her monastery did not mean she would stray from her routine. A strong mind and body would be essential in tracking down the men responsible for her village's destruction and bring them to justice.

With that done, she gathered up her few belongings, paid her bill at the Helm, and made her way to the Allfaiths Shrine. She inclined her head and offered a small smile when greeted by the priest as she entered. Good morning, Imdarr. She entered further into the temple, approaching the priest and setting down her pack on one of the pews. My name is T'saryn. I am a servant of Illmater and a good friend to a member of your order, Ambrose Hocke. She wasted no time and began to explain why she was there. The village near our monastery was attacked and the men set fire to most of the buildings. Many lives were lost and it will take years to rebuild what was lost. The monk's tone was grave, and her words carried the weight of the loss she felt, though she kept her voice steady. I have tried to track these men to bring them to justice, but they have successfully eluded me thus far. Ambrose seemed to believe your order could help me.

Prologue: Assemblage of the Order

Imdarr's eyes flashed, filling with the righteous anger that many of his faith held in such high regard. "Blood of Tempus!" His jaw snaps shut, clearly biting off further thoughts as he struggles to contain his fury. Pulling His emotions back into control, he looks to the younger woman before him. "I hope that Vindicator Hocke is still well? Given that he sent you instead of coming himself, I assume that the Luminescent Estuary still stands strong and is aiding in the rebuilding of Shadegrove?"

Prologue: Assemblage of the Order

Chane woke at a fairly decent time in the morning to see the sunrise through his room window. He always enjoyed the sight they brought with them and the new days. He then made his way out, paying as he left, and made his way to the shrine. He seemed to be behind another from last night as he followed behind her into the shrine. He was busy taking in the surroundings when this Imdarr came up and introduced himself. He noticed the greeting as one of those who follow Tempus. Maybe this could come into his favor.

It surprised Chane to learn that this Elf in front of him was another of the Order. He listened in between their conversation. After Imdarr had spoken, Chane couldn't help but interrupt into the conversation. "I'm sorry to intrude but by any chance would there have happen to have been a Genasi amongst those men that attacked your village?" He was hoping that maybe this would be a lead that would lead him to this Genasi.

Prologue: Assemblage of the Order

T'saryn was relieved to know that Ambrose's name was still recognized and well-respected in the Order. It would hopefully encourage them to assist her in her search. She nodded. Yes, his body and mind are still strong, but travel would have taken its toll. My monastery was spared in the attack and, as we have lived alongside this village for generations, we believe it to be our responsibility to see the villagers made whole. The monk had wondered what would have happened if the attackers had turned to the monastery or if word had reached them sooner of the blaze. Unfortunately, the arsonists seemed to be mostly cowards who only attacked those less able to defend themselves. Ambrose is much needed to lead the rebuilding. His experience in leadership during a crisis will be crucial, thus he agreed it made the most sense to send me after these criminals.

The elf turned her attention to the human who had entered the temple. She paused at his question, running her mind through all the information they had been able to gather from the survivors. It had not been much, and amidst the darkness, flames, and chaos, it was hard to know what information was good and what had been fueled by fear and panic. I'm sorry. I cannot be certain, but I do not believe there were any Genasi among them. In fact, until last night, T'saryn had not seen another Genasi in decades.

Prologue: Assemblage of the Order

Chane was visibly angered by the response from the elf that there was no Genasi. He quickly composed himself and looked back at the elf. "Thank you. I'm sorry, I am in search of this Genasi by the name of Miraj Vizann." Chane turned his attention back to Imdarr. "My last lead had led me to this town in search of this Genasi. Do you have any information about him or know where I might be able to get information about if he would have passed through here?"

Prologue: Assemblage of the Order

Service remained at the back of the chapel, still cloaked and hidden in shadows, waiting for the folk ahead of him to finish with their business.

He needed to do some digging. Perhaps this holy man knew of order members in this area. Or perhaps he had heard the rumors of Grimjaw’s gang of thieves and knew where to find them before they waylaid travelers.

Service‘s tail lashed as he fought the thrill of excitement he felt at the thought of bursting the skulls of useless thieves. A true member of the Gauntlet was motivated only by Justice, not violence, he reminded himself. He had much to learn.

But he couldn’t fight the sense of impatience as he waited for the others to leave. The sooner he could get his bearings, the sooner he could take on the gang. He could become a cheval, a real member of the order!

Before he could stop to think if it was a good idea, Service’s voice boomed from the back of the chapel. “holy man, a word?”

Prologue: Assemblage of the Order

T'saryn glanced up at the sound of a new voice joining the conversation. She saw the figure standing near the back, unable to see much of his face. The monk wondered if perhaps the man was expecting trouble, the way he seemed to cling to the shadows and keep his features hidden.

She offered a small smile to the priest. I see your attention is in high demand. Did this tiny chapel often see such activity? I can return at a later hour to further discuss Ambrose and whether or not you can help me in my search. There was no sense of urgency in her words. She would do what needed to be done. A few hours would change nothing.

Re: Prologue: Assemblage of the Order

Imdarr stood silent, allowing the conversation to take the course it desired, noting the sigil of the Order that two of the three wore. As they came to a close, each turning in their own way to look at him, he nodded to the two new arrivals. "Well met, Initiates. I understand that you both have questions and, from the sounds of it, your own personal reasons for being here."

He held up a hand, stopping any interruptions for the moment. "I believe that I was about the answer your inquiry, T'saryn. In short, I do not have the information your seeking...yet. However, I'm more than happy to reach out to my connections within the Order to see what we can dig up. I would suggest speaking with Kaylessa, the proprietress of the Swinging Sword in the mean time - she generally always has room available for travelers."

He turned his attention to the two initiates. "Now. I understand the two of you are searching for something - I would guess, given the distance you hold yourselves at, that this is the first time either of you are meeting as well.." He waits for their nods before continuing, "I will be more than happy to hear your stories, however, there is currently a more pressing issue. Our local constable, Harburk has been run ragged trying to keep the peace recently due to growing instances of banditry. I request that the two of you assist him in resolving this issue, during which I will do all that I can to look into whatever it is that has brought you to my doorstep."
