Character Creation Chat

I'm going with an Undine (mistsoul) Investigator, and with no wizard or similar caster in view, leaning into the "knows things" role that it's already good at makes sense. With a side of alchemy so I can pass out free drugs performance enhancements.

Wow, this is shaping up to be an interesting party! I can't promise that being amphibious will be extremely useful, but it should come up once in a while.

Ok.  I'm happy to go with the bard.  I will have a bit of a healing bent, with the Soothe spell and I'm going to try to convince the GM to let me take Hymn of Healing instead of the (absolutely useless) Lingering Composition as a Focus spell (from my muse).   I figured that with a couple of us with a little healing, we won't suffer from a lack of a dedicated healer.

I also took Medicine skill, but then I saw that a Healer's Tools is 5GP!!  So a kit with bandages and a few herbs costs more than a full set of Scale Mail.  I guess they didn't want first level characters to have access to this.

Why on earth would you want a 1st level party to be able to patch themselves back together?

Who needs clerics when you have a dose of Sellenski's Invigorating Solution close at hand?

Maybe I should have went Forensic... :D

Ahh.  So GM explained to me what I had misunderstood about both Lingering Composition and Hymn of Healing.  (The former does not take an action, it's a free action.  The latter is not an area affect, it is only one target.)  So I'm all set up.

Sellenski's is the best!

Between a druid and bard with a healing bent and investigator tonics we'll be fine.

Happy to chip in a gold or two for healing kits. At least two with solid medicine would be helpful. Assuming either dubh or lena is going there plus Wilkezag. I could too but I think my wisdom is going to be 10...

From the KingMaker Player's Guide that GM linked to, it suggests the following Lore skills.  I have checked the ones that I have trained in.  I'm not saying that we should get full coverage or that we should push anyone to take anything that they don't want, but if anyone is on the fence between a few, perhaps this will help nudge them.

I added some additional Lore specialties to Wilkezag's list. You definitely don't have to have all of these covered by any means, but they'll all come in handy at some point.

I was able to pick up the Healer's Kit after all.  I learned I was using the wrong value for starting money:  It is supposed to be 15 GP.

Plains here.

It's where the Mammoths live, so I figure it made more sense than forests.

Unfortunately, I've built my whole backstory around the Barrister background (currently in my description).  But I was considering Mercantile, also, so let me see if I can change it.

Lores are banditry, hills (where the bandits hide!) and ... Calistria?
Other trained skills, just for reference are:

Athletics (+7)
Deception (+5)
Diplomacy (+5)
Intimidation (+5)
Performance (+5)
Society (+3)
Stealth (+4)
Thievery (+4)

I decided to be a Tiefling, primarily for the vision, if that's ok. I can do vanilla human if that's preferred, but hate not being able to see in the dark!

Re: Character Creation Chat

Wow, between a tiefling, an undine, and a fetchling, you definitely have an "extraplanar influence" theme going on here! Also, remember that this area is close enough to the (still extremely active in 4710 AR!) Worldwound that tieflings will.... not be very welcome in most settlements. But they are probably the most common of the planar scions! Which fits with Sophia's backstory, to be sure, especially if her more fiendish attributes developed at puberty instead of birth.

Re: Character Creation Chat

I don't have a build that drops Legal Lore.  I really want the 'Group Impression' skill feat from Barrister.  The only others that offer it are Goldhand Arms Dealer, which would make me a dwarf bard (ick) or Pathfinder Recruiter which seems too contrived for me.

On the other hand, I realized that I had miscounted my skills, and I have one more than I previously thought.  I plan to spend it on another two Lore skills, to pick up Mercantile and Brevoy.

My other skills are
Arcana (6)
Athletics (3)  (I realize you strong types are unimpressed, but my plan during melee if I'm not casting is to use my whip to trip or disarm, so I need the skill.)
Deception (7)
Diplomacy (7)
Lore: Legal (6)
Lore: Heraldry (6)
Lore: Mercantile (6)
Lore: Politics (6)
Lore: Brevoy (6)
Medicine (4)
Occultism (6)
Performance (7)
Society (6)

By the way, the PathBuilder app which Dubh Oiche mentioned above is now available as a normal web app, here:  https://pathbuilder2e.com/app.html

Re: Character Creation Chat

I think I might be the same, undercounting a trained skill, but I'm not sure.

If both my background and my class (rogue ruffian racket) give me trained in intimidate, do I get to pick another skill? Or do I get expert intimidate? Or do I just waste one of the trained skills?

In general, any features that overlap during character creation grant you a replacement of your choice, specifically including skills granted by name from both your background and your class.

Also... decided on dropping tiefling for changeling - still gives me darkvision and more fey themed, also less monstrous looking.

Add in "The Eldest", "Fey" and "First World" (I had an extra trained skill I forgot about)

Re: Character Creation Chat

I'm hijacking this thread to be Kingdom Creation.

I've been looking at the rules for our kingdom creation, here:  https://wiki.rpol.net/?id=7766...s%2FKingdom+Creation, plus GM and I were talking about it.

My inclination would be either Expansion Charter or Grant Charter.  Certainly, from a role-playing point of view, Will would go for Culture, and GM says it is a pretty strong ability (though they are quite well balanced).  Personally, I'm usually all about economy when I play Civilization-type games.  I figure with a strong economy, you can buy your way out of other troubles.  So I wouldn't want Exploration Charter, which has the flaw in economy.

The two I favor have flaws in Stability and Loyalty, which seem the same to me just from their names -- I haven't looked any deeper.

I assume we'll be taking over the Stag Lord castle, here, as our base, so I assume that this gives us the choice of either Hills/Plains or Lake/River as our Heartland choice.  We could use the former's Loyalty bonus to wipe our our Loyalty penalty from Grant Charter, but that seems kind of boring.  However, I do like the Agriculture skill.  I'm not sure how valuable Boating skill is going to be.

For the Government, I'd be willing to go with any except Despotism.  Will is pretty strongly Chaotic Good, and he's not going to go for an iron hand sort of government.  GM did say that Practical Magic is a great feat, making Thaumocracy tempting, but we can always just take the feat on our own.  (We do get to choose some feats, right?)

GM edit: I gave you a whole new thread to talk about founding your kingdom!
