Scene 14 - The Return

You slosh your way back to Middling with sacks full of coin and many ancient artifacts. You have several weeks in which to divide your treasure, make your purchases, pursue training, and of course carouse.

Those of you who have not leveled up to 1 yet may do so.

Pyke, I need a DC 14 Intelligence roll to decipher the book.

Scene 14 - The Return

Halton and Urmdrak's first stop is to the church, to deliver the corpses that we were able to retrieve (I still haven't got an answer if the others retrieved some other bodies, or if Rhod was the only one that was taken).

They have a brief exchange after that, Halton wanting to go tell the sad news to Rhod's wife, but Urmdrak insists that they need first to divvy up the loot, so they can take Rhod's part to his family.

EDITED to reflect DM's clarification. I assume there is still a church, even if there are no clerics? Someone to handle funerary rites.

You have been chosen by Aldermen and Guildmasters, by name or by lot or pulled off the street, to investigate. There are no warriors or wizards or clerics in this town. You will have to do. Your reward will be whatever you can carry from the tomb, exempt from taxes. Any crimes you committed will be forgotten, and if you are a serf or slave you will be set free.

Scene 14 - The Return

Int check for book:
20:06, Today: Pyke the Astrologist rolled 7 using 1d20+2 ((5)).

Pyke is frustrated in his attempts to understand the book so he stows it away until he is ready to try again. In the meanwhile, he asks around until he is able to locate his pony, Esmerelda. She gives him the sad look of a creature abandoned by its master. He gives her the sad look back of a master who has undergone a transformation and is not the man he once was. With a tearful goodbye, he finds her a new home where she can live out her remaining pony days as well as she can.

Scene 14 - The Return

Tzothagri tries to make what she can of the mace and rod that she harvested from the treasure room. But there are other ways she might make herself useful, and so she addresses Halton and Urmdrak.

"Well my dear friends, it would appear that I am the only devotee of the Fates around here. If we cannot find anywhere to bury the dead, perhaps you could build a pyre for them, and I will offer some prayers for their journey to the afterlife?"
