Magic Systems

Here I will include information about various magic systems that exist. At the start of the game I will include examples for each of the elements but more will be included as we go. Players can also add their personal magic systems in here.

Magic Systems

Here is the first of my takes on the four magic systems that were included in the first game.

Flux (Fire Magic)


Method: The magic user heats up their hands either by holding it close to flame or vigorously rubbing hands together. Once their hands are heated this way they may touch an object or living creature to create transformations of all sorts. Most of these transformations last for about a day but a fortune flip can be used to see how long it last.

Level One
Change a feature to very small objects (pebbles, coins) or bug sized creatures like making a rock smoother or making a beetle stronger.

Level Two
Change a feature to small objects (quill, cookie) or mouse sized creatures like making a rock smoother or making a beetle stronger.

Make more unusual changes to very small objects or creatures like increasing size, changing color, or giving them a new attribute like flight.

Level Three
Change a feature to regular sized objects (pinecone, books) or cat sized creatures like making a rock smoother or making a beetle stronger)

Make more unusual changes to small objects or creatures like increasing size, changing color, or giving them a new attribute like flight.

Perform full transmutation to very small objects and creatures. (Turn an animal into glass or give life to a glass)

Level Four
Change a feature to larger sized objects (chair, bush) or wolf sized creatures like making a rock smoother or making a beetle stronger)

Make more unusual changes to regular sized objects or creatures like increasing size, changing color, or giving them a new attribute like flight.

Perform full transmutation to small objects and creatures. (Turn an animal into glass or give life to a glass)

Create subtle or complex changes in very small objects. (make an object always point north, create a certain fear in the mind of an animal)

Level Five
Change a feature to much larger sized objects (table, young tree) or human sized creatures like making a rock smoother or making a beetle stronger)

Make more unusual changes to larger sized objects or creatures like increasing size, changing color, or giving them a new attribute like flight.

Level Six

Level Seven

Change a feature to small local area (house, grassy hill) or monster sized creatures like making a rock smoother or making a beetle stronger)

Make more unusual changes to giant sized objects or creatures like increasing size, changing color, or giving them a new attribute like flight.

Perform full transmutation to much larger objects and creatures. (Turn an animal into glass or give life to a glass)

Create subtle or complex changes in larger objects. (make an object always point north, create a certain fear in the mind of an animal)

Level Eight
Change a feature to local area (bridge, pond) or any sized creatures like making a rock smoother or making a beetle stronger)

Make more unusual changes to small local area or creatures like increasing size, changing color, or giving them a new attribute like flight.

Perform full transmutation to giant objects and creatures. (Turn an animal into glass or give life to a glass)

Create subtle or complex changes in much larger objects. (make an object always point north, create a certain fear in the mind of an animal)

Level Nine
Change a feature to a large local area (castle, forest) like making a rock smoother or making a beetle stronger)

Make more unusual changes to local area like increasing size, changing color, or giving them a new attribute like flight.

Perform full transmutation to small local area and creatures. (Turn an animal into glass or give life to a glass)

Create subtle or complex changes in any sized creature (make an object always point north, create a certain fear in the mind of an animal)

Level Ten
Change the feature or make more unusual changes to the sphere itself. Perform full transmutation in large local areas or create subtle changes to smaller local areas.

Magic Systems

Here is another magic system. This is a take on one of the original magic systems presented...

Soil & Stone (Earth Magic)

Method: The magic user plants a small stone into the ground. They whisper a spoken prayer over the stone. The prayer summons a special plant that will have healing or defensive properties. It takes a few minutes for the plant to grow but the speed can be increased by use of a fortune flip.

Level One

You can grow fruit and veggies that heal significant wounds. You can also grow tangles that create difficult terrain or stinging nettles.

Level Two

You can grow fruit and veggies that heal most sickness and poisons. You can also grow  bushes or larger vine tangles that create difficult terrain or stinging nettles. Your plant creations can even wound as defense mechanism.

Level Three

You can grow fruit and veggies that heal most mortal wounds. You can also grow small trees that create barriers and larger undergrowth that creates difficult terrain or stinging nettles. Your plant creations can even seriously injure as defense mechanism.

Level Four

You can grow fruit and veggies that can bring someone back from the brink of death or cure magical wounds including those that would cause supernatural transformation.

You can also grow trees that create barriers and larger undergrowth that creates difficult terrain or stinging nettles. Your plant creations can even kill as defense mechanism.

Level Five

You can grow fruit and veggies that can bring someone back from death as long as they have died recently. You can also cure minor curses and supernatural afflictions. You can also grow plants that can be eaten to resist against certain damage.

You can also grow large trees that create barriers. You can summon smaller sentient plant creatures that act in a defensive way. Your overgrowth can cover a home in plant life.

Level Six

You can grow fruit and veggies that can cure most supernatural afflictions and curses. Also your creations can be eaten to ward against certain damage.

You can also grow giant trees that act as barriers. You can summon sentient plant creatures that act in a defensive way. Your overgrowth can cover a city block in plant life.

Level Seven

You can grow fruit and veggies that can cure supernatural afflictions and curses. Also your creations can be eaten to resist against damage temporarily. Your creations can also be used to bring someone back from the dead as long as their soul is not in another realm.

You can also grow large sentient plant creatures that act in defensive ways. Your overgrowth can cover towers and castles in plan life.

Level Eight

You can grow fruit and veggies that can all supernatural afflictions and curses. Also your creations can be eaten to ward against damage temporarily. Your creations can also be used to bring someone back from the dead as long as their soul has not reincarnated.

You can summon for a small groups of sentient plant life. You can also create plants that will grow in a local area forever as long as they are not met with blight.

Level Nine

You can grow fruit and veggies that can ward against certain damage permanently or ward against certain types of death. Your creations can also be used to bring back supernatural monsters.

You can summon large groups of sentient plant life. You can also create plants that will grow in a realm forever as long as they are not met with blight.

Level Ten

Your fruits and veggies can grant true immortality. You can summon armies of sentient plant life and create plants that will grown in the sphere forever even against blight.

Magic Systems

Here is yet another magic system inspired by the original magic system. I took a decent amount of liberties with this one because I want to showcase offensive magic.

Words of Power (AIR MAGIC)

Method: There is an ancient language that predates all others. None but the walker can fully speak it but the magic user has learned some of the words, the true names of reality. They can write the true name on a piece of paper or say the world out loud to unleash some of the elemental power of that world.

The manifestations created from the magic can be formed to be defensive or offensive. At higher levels they can elemental creatures as well.

At the start of character creation the character knows two words for each level that they have in the magic.

Level One

Tear the paper with the true word on it to create an impressive illusion related to that word. The caster is in control of the illusion.

Speak the word to fill the mind of anyone who hears you with images of that word.

Level Two

Tear the paper with the true word on it to create a small and fleeting manifestation of that word. You can control the manifestation and it has the ability to cause harm.

Speak the word to create an impressive illusion related to that word. The caster is in control of the illusion.

Level Three

Tear the paper with the true word on it to create a fleeting manifestation of that word. You can control the manifestation and it has the ability to cause significant harm.

Speak the word to create a small and fleeting manifestation of that word. You can control the manifestation and it has the ability to cause harm.

Level Four

Tear the paper with the true word on it to create a large fleeting manifestation of that word. You can control the manifestation and it can be deadly.

Speak the word to create a fleeting manifestation of that word. You can control the manifestation and it has the ability to cause significant harm.

Level Five

Tear the paper with the true word on it to create multiple fleeting manifestations that can do different things including elemental creatures.

Speak the word to create large fleeting manifestation of that word. You can control the manifestation and it can be deadly.

Magic Systems

And here is the final magic system based on the ones provided in first edition.

Open Chalice (WATER MAGIC)

Method: The magic user has a powerful connection with water. As long as they are in contact with water they can sense various energies and emotions. They can also communicate with others without the barriers out language. If looking into a body of water or open container of water they can even summon spirits and souls known to them. During summonings use fortune deck to determine temperament.

Level One

You can sense strong emotions in animals You are aware of any strong presence in the area even those unseen. You know where nearby water sources are. You can communicate with those that speak similar languages of your own.

You can summon insect type creature and very simple primal spirits when looking into water.

Level Two

You can sense complex emotions in animals and strong emotions in human types. You are aware of various spiritual energies in your area even those unseen. You can communicate with those that speak a common spoken language even if it is not your own.

You can summon small creatures and simple spirits on any type when looking into water. You can also reach out to ghost that you have met before.

Level Three

You can sense most emotions with living creatures and can often sense when someone is being directly deceptive to you. You can have general awareness of all the spiritual energies that are near you even those unseen. You can give simple commands and basic communication with animals and simple spirits. You can communicate in any language aside from dead or secret languages.

You can summon medium sized creatures and any type of low powered spirits when looking into water. You can reach out to a ghost that you know the name of or whom you have met before.

Level Four

You can sense basic motivations behind peoples actions and you are very difficult to lie to. You have awareness of secret areas or traps that were not created by magic means. You know the type of spiritual energies that are near you even those unseen. You can give complex commands and communicate with animals and simple spirits. You can communicate in any language aside from those protected by others magic.

You can summon large creatures and most basic spirits when looking into water. You can reach out to any ghost.

Level Five

You can sense complex motivations behind peoples actions unless they know how to protect their minds. You have awareness of most secret areas and traps. You are aware of even complex spiritual energies or the presence of demigod like enegy. You can communicate with most spirits and give simple commands to those with human intelligence. You can communicate with even those who can not speak, body language becomes a language to you.

You can summon multiple creatures at a time when looking into the water. Only complex spirits, legendary monsters, demigods and gods can refuse your call. You can even reach out to spirits that are in other spheres if you know their name.
