Re: Chargen and other plotting

Glad to see we have nearly everyone, and that the responses were so fast. Was afraid I hosed the game up before it even got off the ground.

We get Horizon's question, there'll be a few more world building Q's about the school specifically, and than we'll finally be able to make things move.

Would anyone like/want me to have a World Anvil page made for note keeping and the like?

In reply to Bob Stanley Kane (msg # 118):

I don't have world anvil, but if I could just look at it from time to time that would be great.

Plus if you could make notes about each of our backgrounds that is known by the other PCs, that would also work very well.

Re: Chargen and other plotting

I've not used world anvil personally . . . I tend to just make lore threads when I run games here on Rpol. That said, I'm not averse to the idea. Just not an informed respondent!

I'm also very much looking forward to getting started. Causing some chaos with my powers while earnestly trying to help and bungling it most of the time sounds like great fun!

Re: Chargen and other plotting

Can't say I've ever used World Anvil myself either, but I'm always down for some new archival processes.

Horizon:
All things considered, we did well and impressed an established hero. Who Was It?

Dimensional rifts, mind controlled politicians, freaky creatures from another realm beyond imagination, bizarre twists and betrayals... it all sounds like a lot, but for the long-running heroes it's basically just another "day at the office".  You'll get two or three of those a year, sometimes.  Naturally, a few members of The Astro Team hurried into the fray - Horizon among them.  She wasn't really expected to have any overt involvement, but it was an all-hands-on-deck kind of moment.

True to her gravitational theme, Horizon did a good job of keeping things grounded and together.  Even as the strange, individual elements lashed out and spiked, she was there to organize people in the midst of it all.  The very presence of a more recognized, up-and-coming hero among the radical, fear-inducing new faces loaned them reassurance to the public.  After all, if Horizon was working alongside them, and they were cooperating with her in return, they couldn't be all bad, right?

Someone else thought so too.  An unknown figure to the rest of them, but someone who held a position on the Phoenix Academy's board of directors.  Someone who had their fingers in quite a few pies and a newly inspired interest in what they apparently saw as a potential team.  Exactly who they are and what their focus is remains a mystery, most of all to the young heroes themselves, but someone on the board has their back... for the time being.

Hope this isn't a cop-out in not identifying exactly who the impressed hero is.  I thought I'd go for a more mysterious angle to give our good Narrator a curve ball to throw at us later on.

Re: Chargen and other plotting

Having the person be unknown and unnamed works fine.

You all had an unnamed benefactor who recommended you to be entered into the Academy. Recommendations are anonymous; they have to be. Reduce prospects of favoritism that Masks nominate their protoges and offspring purely on nepotism.

I'll have follow on questions tomorrow, that should help flesh out the Academy specifically. From there, we should be able to get this going.

Sorry this taken so long, but thanks for strapping in.

College semester started up, so between that, the other game I'm running, and handling my little girl, this will never be a rapid fire game, but I hope it will at least be entertaining for as long as we can keep it going.

Re: Chargen and other plotting

So, I'm going to do this next set a little differently, in that I won't assign specific questions to specific people or dictate an order. Whoever wants to answer a question may do so, and there's enough questions so that everyone gets one.
If two people both have really good answers to the same question, I can allow duplicates (so long as all of the questions are answered at least once).

Which Teacher Will just not cut you a break?

Which teacher do you have a secret crush on?

Which teacher do you believe is secretly a supervillain?

Which teachers do you think are hooking up?

Which teachers do you think should retire?

Which teacher do you think would make a good headmaster?

With that, a few characters that I've already penciled up as staff in the school:

You are not only welcome but encouraged to create your own faculty members

Uncle Sam: True Name, Samuel Rosenstein, United States Marine Corps
Position: P.E. Teacher
Mr. Rosenstein is a long retired Mask, and celebrated hero for fighting against the national and existential threats in the 20th century. His hair having gone prematurely gray by adulthood, he conspicuously matched the appearance of the United States mascot. Having fought and defeated supervillains The Divine Wind, The Uber Man, and The Red Menace, he is a legend, walking among other legends.
"Uncle Sam" is hard on the students, testing their mental strength as well as their physical.

Mister Rodgers
Position: History Teacher
despite being enigmatic and private, Mister Rogers is often labeled one of the Phoenix Academy's favorite teachers. He has an empathetic ear and kind temperament. He also is deeply analytical; with his goal for his classes to be more about critical thinking and discussions than recitation of facts and events.
Curiously, he was never a Mask; not even a sidekick, nor was he ever a villain, that anyone has been able to determine. Why he's here is an open mystery.

Father Blood: Real Name, Monsignor Louis Sanguis
Position: Librarian, dormitory steward

A master of the dark arts, and plagued by the same, the priest known as Father Blood maintains a permanent residence in the Phoenix Academy. He has spent centuries keeping the infernal and demonic threats at bay, including himself. He is used mostly for information, only entering the field as a last resort.
Within the school, he is the administrator of the schools library. He also wards the dormitories from malevalent spirits and energy for students whom that is necessary, such as Tendril.
He's also one of the go-to chaperones for dances and similar events. He is permissable of students getting roudy, but very much being of a different time, he draws a hard line on rules of public affection.

Uncle Sam does not particularly care much for Traveler. Not just because the highly intellectual student is terrible at P.E. Sam sees the Nezions as conquerorers and invaders. Having no doubt had to have fought off a smaller incursion many years on the past. He does not trust Traveller, despite what the student says about the death of his people.

Re: Chargen and other plotting

Mr. Ro(d?)gers sounds like he would be a great headmaster!

Byron only transferred here last year when he joined the team so he isn't fully familiar with everyone yet. If there was a cool English or Maths teacher on the younger side, he'd probably catch some feelings (likely along with half the school LOL) (I could make that teacher if people are okay with the idea!)

Madame Moon Real name unknown, or at least unmentioned.
Position: Science teacher
There is no denying that Madame Moon was once a minor villain, who reformed after being captured. There's also no denying there are rumors that she's not so reformed after all, and is secretly planning to return to supervillainy. Her classes tend to be popular: as a former gadgeteer genius, her classroom demonstrations tend towards the spectacular, and occasionally noisy.

Not that it's a problem in the least, but that name sounds like a comic character)or even anime) that already exists.

If it's not, good job at picking the name, cause it definitely gives off those vibes

Re: Chargen and other plotting

Bob Stanley Kane:

Crush? I don't have crushes. Look, life as a Roivas is like navigating a leaky canoe through a shark infested hurricane blindfolded. You have to remain focused, present, and composed at all times. A Roivas doesn't have the luxury of anything as retro-romcom as a crush.

So please don't read anything unseemly into the the fact that I usually find a reason to drop by Ms. Ferrari's class (the shop class teacher, Ms. Geraldine Ferrari, formerly the speedster known as Velocity) just about every day.

And yes, Geraldine Ms.Ferrari is very pretty. And yes, she's charming and nice and smart and good and dedicated and wise and generous and charismatic and has a dazzling smile and...

**AHEM**

Anyway. I drop by her shop because she knows a lot about the inner workings of the school. And a Roivas, more than anyone, knows that information is power.

That's all it is.

Seriously.

THAT'S ALL IT IS.

Re: Chargen and other plotting

Damn, you're good at writing!

I suppose I'll go ahead and make a math teacher.

Mr. C is a friendly man in his early 30s. He is a bit of a gearhead, being host of robotics club (which Byron has joined). He has designed many contraptions for the school's use, and more for his classroom. Math goes along with his interests, so he opted to teach that, and also does physics lessons at times.
He tried to make a go of it as a hero when he was younger, as he is quite the brainiac, but realised he would rather pass his knowledge onto others than round up bad guys (something that his students were bound to do anyway) so where better than Phoenix?

Father Blood: To most of the student body, the monsignor is the taciturn and intimidating expert on all things  eldritch and demonic, fearsome enough to stare down the forces of hell themselves and make them blink . . . but Lorelai has seen the cracks. When his guard is down, when nobody else is around, the monsignor just looks . . . tired. What's worse, it seems like it's getting harder and harder for him to hold back his own demons. He absolutely refuses to discuss it, either with her or the rest of the faculty, and it hasn't become a problem . . . yet.

In reply to Byron (msg # 136):

If nobody has any better ideas, and Kaylee does not mind, I would suggest that Madam Moon and Mister Rodgers might have a thing for each other. It might be very low key, as she was clearly a villain once upon a time, and Rodgers tries to 'save the world' one person at a time. As a result neither has really acted upon their feelings-but its clear to anyone who can see them together.
