Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

Searlait runs her witchlance through the Elder's leg and feels no resistance from the fluid silver armour, the xeno stumbles and misses the swing it makes with it’s sword, a sword that  roars softly as it passes by. Sabrynn’s chain sword is not so subtle, a huge thing with the teeth exposed on both sides that screams defiance as it ploughs through the aliens shoulder and half way to it’s naval. This one falls but five more are charging up the stairs.

From the mechanicus balcony Arius lets rip with his bolt gun on full auto, the loud rattle of the bolts being fired accompanied by the lower pitched thumping of reactive shells exploding inside their targets, the concentration of silver clad warriors is such that it would be hard to miss and many of the fall, however, it does seem to shake them out of their stupor and they split in all directions. There are three heading for the Navis balcony, (two on the left, one on the right), and five more heading for the pilot on the balcony above.

Cennet receives a calm and measured response to her enquiry, ++All is well my Lady, your guard is stood to and ready, I have requested that Lord Levi and Lady Sheridan done their armour, Lady Sheridan has done so and Agnis is checking on Lord Levi as we speak. I trust that Grund is with you. Do you require our attendance at your current location my lady?++

Not sure of the rank of Agnis and Grund, however, your guard captain would have referred to them with the proper formalities.

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

As the Xenos in front of her is stuck in place by her lance throwing its own aim off and allowing her bodyguard to step forward and carve the bastard apart with the eviscerator, spraying blood across the room and her previously immaculate armour. "See, the bastards die just like anyone else!, Repel Boarders FOR THE EMPEROR!" she shouts across the bridge as she charges into the next xenos.

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

There was, sadly, little room for grace or rumination when it came to situations like this as she spared a glance to Master Grund to ensure no stray munitions had stricken her unarmored aide. Satisfied with his condition, her attention returned then to the battle and providing a situation report to the captain of her own navis guard. By all rights, it appeared the situation should stabilize on the bridge but this was open to debate depending on the extent and breadth of forces the Aeldari might bring to bear. It was enough, after all, for them to feel so dangerous an approach was worthwhile. The question that bothered her the most was the reason behind it.

Contemplating the mind of the Alien was a sure path to madness but it was felt necessary in the instant... If only to better predict where they might strike next in matters of sabotage or boarding attempts.

++For now, hold station in the Sanctum. The situation is still... precarious on the bridge. Master Grund is also with me. Master Grund, please cover your eyes.++ the Navis Primaris concluded as she moved with pained care through what cover there was and drew herself up to her full height. Her wasted limbs and muscles protesting each and every motion all the while, deepening the headache that crawled up from the back of thighs, along the length of her back and into the base of neck and skull.

She drew a soft breath then as she turned to where she knew more of the foul xenos would emerge from and reached for her mask. There were precious few options that might buy them a moment but still it was a necessity that cut deeper than the pain of withered and wretched muscle. To unmask herself was to show another element of the wretchedness that she had fallen to from the perfection of her youth... but there was small solace that should all be as He on Terra willed... It would be the last thing these foul creatures would see... and with at she waited for one second longer and slipped the exquisite mask from her features and subjected what may come to the full and terrible breadth of her stare.

OOC: I'd assume they're administrative in their integration so like maybe petty officers at best but otherwise simple honorifics of Master and Mistress probably work well enough.

Initiative:
15:36, Today: Cennet Melek Shiraishi rolled 13 using 1d10+3.  Initiative.

Using the Lidless Stare (Novice).

15:49, Today: Cennet Melek Shiraishi rolled 43 -- 1 degree of success using the Warhammer Test system with a target number of 57.  Lidless Stare (Opposed Willpower).

I suffer a point of fatigue for this. Anyone that fails the opposed willpower save takes 9 damage per the below roll and is stunned for 1 round. This damage bypasses toughness and armour.

15:51, Today: Cennet Melek Shiraishi rolled 9 using 1d10+5.  Lidless Stare damage.

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

The Pious Lament shakes and shudders. From the crew who doggedly man their stations in spite of the chaos on the bridge, it is learned that the ship is taking fire but the shields are holding.

News across the vox beads from elsewhere on the ship is mixed, there are insurrectionists in the auspex fin trying to blind the ship's sensors, the Master at Arms, along with the High Factotem, Choir Master, Enginseer Prime and an unspecified number of ships troops are there trying to prevent this but are hampered by an Eldar sniper.

The main fight seems to be in the Temple where there is no senior leadership, heavy casualties have been taken and triage station seven requests evacuation protocols as they are exceeding maximum capacity, however, the invasion is being contained, for now.

Outside the fighters and gunships are trying to dislodge the Eldar ship that has latched onto the temple, the situation there is confused and there might have been some losses.

On the bridge, Searlait and Sabrynn charge down the starboard side staircase into the half dozen silver clad xenos who are coming up towards them, Searlait spears one through the arm , sending him reeling back in flames while Sabrynn’s eviscerator sends a gush of xeno blood into the air in an elegant arc. Another Eldar, from the back of the group, drops to the floor unexpectedly after a servo skull injects something into the back of its neck. Two of the xenos strike back at Cennet, their chain blades gouging ugly gashes in the ornate surface of her armour but failing to penetrate to any significant degree, Sabrynn is also hit and her power armour proves just as effective.

There is no longer a large concentration of Eldar for Arius to target, he firs into a lose group of three as they descend on the unfortunate serfs hard wired into the tactical auspex display’s control system, hitting two, one of which stays on the floor.

On the Navis balcony Cennet turns her stare on two of the approaching attackers knowing that the third will be coming up uncontested behind her. One assailant drops, screaming, to its knees, the other stagers but continues its lunge, cutting into Cennet’s leg, except that Grund steps in and takes the injury, falling to the floor with blood streaming from a deep gash. The attach from behind doesn’t happen but Cennet is now in hand-to-hand combat with an Eldar warrior.

On the port staircase, the inquisition psyker known as Moonstone, crackles with energy, his robes floating about him as he carves into the Eldar trying to reach the helmsman with a force sword. Behind him the petite, feminine form of Jade is firing a small, ornate slug gun of some sort while from the command deck, Tungsten put’s down one of Cennet’s attackers with a well-placed head shot from a standard arbrites bolter. Obsidian sits at the back in meditative silence, only one of his servo skulls currently in attendance.

Shots rain down from the troops, mechanicus and ecclesiarchy from the various balconies, mostly ineffective due to extreme speed and reflexes of the Eldar.  A fresh squad of ships troops rush onto the lower deck from a side door and are immediately cut to pieces, they are no match for the xenos in their quick silver armour and unprepared for what hit them. Another squad enter the bridge on the command deck and do have time to asses the situation and get orders from the officer in charge.

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

It was instinct as much as anything as she felt as much as saw or heard Master Grund take the wicked blow that had been meant for her. That she had inspired such loyalty in her imperfect and wretched state forming a note of discordant confusion in her mind even as her prideful sense of duty carried her forward in a single step to straddle and shield the downed adept. It was a cold fury that swept up from within as pride and duty soon made for strange bed failures with the moment's realization that yet another failure had been added to the tally... This one in the inability to keep her staff from harm, even if such had been a sacrifice to shield her... It only goaded that fury as she sought out the key variable to turn her personal situation.

Her vision distorted now between the Endless Sea and flickering reflections of reality in it and her perceptions of reality through her more mundane senses... but there was no mistaking the brilliant flame that was each of the Aeldari souls against the weaker, flickering candle lights of the humanity that surrounded her. One of whom had yet to recover from the terrible weight of her gaze which left the other that she felt at her six o'clock. There were few that might understand the breadth and extent of her mutations well enough to know the strange arrangement of her joints but for now, she could only hope it was enough to take the corsair behind her unawares.

The report of the bolt round behind her and the silence of armored feet told the Navigatrix all she needed to know if what has transpired behind her. It allowed her attention to focus entirely on what was before her and the all too necessary vengeance that pride and duty both demanded of her. Will alone forced the blessed and cursed third  eye open once again but rather than the terrible and fulsome weight of her gaze... it was a coruscating sheet of darkness tinged by unnatural hues that defied categorization within the chromatic scales of humanity, and likely the Aeldari too. Worse, perhaps, was the scent of it as salt and witch frost seemed to fill the air around her as the non-flame roared outward with greedy, hateful intent against seemingly anything and everything of the material reality they were all accustomed to.

Such efforts, though, that might have been a matter of ease for a younger woman were now strangely, aggravatingly, exhausting. Each breath feeling a fraction more laboured than the last and the familiar agonies of her wasted form compounding despite the tyranny of her will and drive.

OOC: Well, with rolls like these, I shan't be keeping pace for long.

18:30, Today: Cennet Melek Shiraishi rolled 100 -- 4 degrees of failure using the Warhammer Test system with a target number of 60.  Routine Toughness - Immolate the Soul.

That's another point of fatigue for me.

18:32, Today: Cennet Melek Shiraishi rolled 11 using 1d10+4.  Immolate the Soul Damage (Pen 2).

Edit: focusing on the Eldar in front of me rather than the one that was capped behind me.

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

Arius looked around and noticed the Lord-Captain and some individuals of lesser consequence were beset by a group of the Eldar invaders. The loss of the Lord-Captain would severely hamper the Explorator's goals. Therefore logic dictated he would aid the Lord-Captain.

It helped that the Eldar were nicely bundled together and presented Arius with a perfect targeting solution. As the bolter bucked in his augmented hands, he felt an emotion blossom up as Xenos blood exploded across the bridge.

Looking back to identify it, he believed it was satisfaction.

Well Cennet, looks like I'll have to pick op the slack...

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

Cennet turns her gaze once again on the Eldar in front of her and a flash of intense blue flame washes over both of them, it's not enough to stop the attack though and one, its chain sword slick with Grund's blood, strikes it down into Cennet's chest while the other climbs rather stiffly to it's feet.

At the top of the starboard staircase the Lady Captain turns to the next xeno and plunges her witch lance cleanly through the centre of its chest a full two feet of protruding from its back, it falls burning to the floor as Sabrynn steps passed swinging her eviscerator down on another who deftly steps aside. Searlait and Sabrynn are both met by a hail of shuriken rounds, Sabrynn stagers with one protruding from her neck, but does not slow in her attacks.

Oh the Mechanicus balcony Arius is also subject shuriken fire, several of the lethal disks zipping past him and glancing off his armour but it does not put him off his aim, the glistening silver Eldar rushing up the stairs to join the attack on the Captain are devastated by the explosive bolt rounds. Three go down in pools of their own blood, others hesitate and don’t push forward with their attack.

On the port staircase the Inquisitorial psyker carves a path through the Eldar to the foot of the stairs, never seeming to miss with his strikes and anticipating the actions of his adversary. Jade follows closely behind and seems to be directing him.

Tungsten fires another carefully aimed shot from the command deck which narrowly misses the Eldar that has just struck Cennet.

Elsewhere on the bridge reinforcement continue to arrive and it seems like the balance is tipping in favour of the defenders.

"Sabrynn finish this lot then follow me to the Navigator" she orders her bodyguard before making a move towards the embattled Navigatrix as several xenos shots embed in her armour before she brings the storm shield up, the field flashing the last round before embedding into her body.

Leaving the xenos to her bodyguard she rushes towards the Navigatrix and spears the xenos thats aiming for her through the arm

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

As the Lord-Captain was freed of her attackers by his well-placed salvo, Explorator Draccius turned to the Xenos that had elected to attack him. While they were tactically sound in seeking him out as his bolter was reaping a heavy toll among them, it was a nearly pointless gesture, for Draccius was clad in hallowed Ceramite and Adamantium. The blessings of the Omnissiah warded him from the foul weaponry of the Xenos. The reverse could not be said. Draccius turned his bolter towards his attackers.

"Blessed is the Omnissiah."

His bolter unleashed death.

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

The blow struck and caught first on the fine robes of her office, then on the mesh armour beneath, and finally on the hard cerametal plates that entombed her withered and wretched form. Perhaps against a less perverse and unrefined weapon than those of the Aeldari, it would have been enough but as the teeth caught, tore, and spun yet deeper they eventually found the flesh and blood beneath. This alone might have been a problem but in her current diminished and exhausted state, it was enough to threaten her footing even as will and spirit both railed against the short comings of the flesh she had been cursed and blessed with. The arcane mysteries of her genetic allowing her to serve as few may but in kind rendering her so pitifully weak against the still bright memories of her past perfection.

This was to say nothing of the pain as it flared with brilliant crimson across the breadth of her nervous system seeming to both amplify and diminish the more chronic agonies that spread through out the withered networks of musculature that spread the breadth of her spine, legs, and shoulders. All of it, really, serving as the means by which the body might express the horrors and perils of the moment to a will and soul that had stubbornly chosen to act in spite of them.

With precious few other options but to continue to flail, the Navigatrix noted the rapid approach of the Lady Captain and quickly turned her head to cut and control the angle of her own aspirations of violence and destruction. Once more, the dread eye glowed with building energy and that same indescribable flame roiled forth and outward to engulf the xenos who was both tormentor and intruder both.

It really was a small price to pay, in either case, so long as the day was carried and that Master Grund at her feet might survive the day.

Going to try and angle the cone so as not to catch Searlait in the flame but still, hopefully, catch the Aeldari Corsair assaulting me even if it may already be dead. At least, no additional fatigue point.

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

The battle rages on the bridge and it seems as if the crew were finally getting the upper hand with reinforcements now pouring in through every entrance.

In unison, all of the liquid silver suits suddenly distort, in the blink of an eye a spike reaches out from of each of them, converging on a point where they first appeared and where it is now noticed that a tall thin alien device is standing. As each silver point touches the device the xeno follows, diapering into it like water down a plug hole. However, this device is what Moonstone had been heading for and, even as the xenos are diapering into it, he smashes it into a thousand shards of white glass.

All is suddenly very quiet. Amongst the many bodies of guards and bridge crew are three of the Eldar, most of their bodies had disappeared with their suits but the suits from these had been damage and left their owners behind. Also left behind were two uninjured Eldar, they had not made it into the device before Moonstone smashed it and now lay dazed on the floor in puddles of liquid silver that had once been their armour. A guardsman fires his shot gun into the mall of one of their backs, it seems so loud in the sudden quiet. Before he can do the same to the other xeno, his Sargent stops him and looks to Searlait for instructions.

The fight is over here but there is a lot of clearing up to do, the ship is still in a ship-to-ship battle, there are intruders in the temple and an alien ship latched onto the hull.

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

The matter of the sanctity and the security of the bridge apparently resolved, the Navigatrix was forced to shift the thinking of her mind once more to the long term. Chronic pain was a frequent bedfellow but now it had transcended into a near thought obliterating agony that she could only place to some of her worst experiences in guiding a vessel through the hazards of the Endless Sea. That agony announcing it's presence with each breath as she became all too acutely aware of all the varied micro-motions of anatomical structures and systems involved in an automatic function that while never far from thought was only a conscious focus under very specific circumstances. The unsettling considerations of poison and other nefarious mechanisms of greater catastrophe were not far from thought but shunted aside as she forced body and mind to unify into the slow, ginger motion of raising one foot and shifting her weight so that she no longer shielded Master Grund from the dispatched xenos.

Blood loss only exasperating the already wretched weakness of her limbs as she lowered herself to the floor beside her assistant and did what she could to assess his condition and ensured that he was still with them, He on Terra willing. It was a dangerous showing of attachment, if all the whispers and suggestions of her tutors and minders were to be believed but it was something she owed to her staff. Let alone one who had so willingly put himself in harm's way.

"I would hope... that you're still with us, Master Grund... so I can arrange for armour if this... will be a new occupational task for you." Cennet offered softly with a mask of humour despite the genuine concern and the familiar hitches of pain shortened breath, fatigue, and the inevitable hormonal crash of adrenaline beginning to flush from the system. Still, despite this she moved with a surprising steadiness and deliberateness as if each motion was again seen through with an utter and becoming calm given the horrors that were part and parcel of her calling.

With the immediate threat dealt with the Explorator reloaded his boltgun, after which it vanished under his red robes once more. Taking up his axe-cane, the massive tech-priest lumbered down the stairs. Hissing breath came from the helmet with every step and as he arrived he unceremoniously shoved Moonstone aside to bend over the broken Xenos device. Without a word he began gathering up the shards of the Xenos device into a metal specimen box. Its nature was arcane and its origin foul, but the Adeptus Mechanicus treasured Knowledge above all. If nothing else, a means to counter its workings would be of great interest of the Machine Cult. And in aiding in finding it Draccius would serve the Omnissiah, for this was his purpose as Explorator.

Grund gives Cennet a week smile, he has a serious leg wound but not life changing and he has not succumbed to the poisons on the blade. The ships medical facilities will no doubt be under pressure right now but a little first aid will suffice until things quieten down.

After being shoved asside Moonstone steadies himself and bows deeply to Arius before returning his companions on the command deck, his associate though, the tech priest Jade, remains and quietly observes Arius at his work.

Just tidying up to be done on the bridge, feel free to continue posting here if you wish to tie up lose ends or anything.

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

Somewhere, in the midst of all of it, Cennet Melek Shiraishi had slid her exquisite mask back into place to spare others both the temptations of her third eye and the particulars of her countenance. The thin smile of Master Grund, all the while, doing some small measure to ease the concern of the Navis Primaris as she turned her attention then towards the question and offered hand of the Lady Captain. Whilst unwise, the show of strength was required and so she accepted the offered hand with her own. The Navigatrix's grasp was a weak one but still felt hard by virtue of artfully worked ceramics that entombed her physical frame... A concession to personal vanity that had apparently been instrumental in preserving her life, an irony that Cennet was hardly unaware of as she considered the question against the still pervasive agony that came with each breath, motion, and the unpleasant amplification that came with being pulled to her feet.

"I... shall weather it. Breathing... is painful but not sucking. I'll... require medical attention sooner than later for us... both, however... as... well as maintenance for the... broken plates." the Navigatrix offered with composure but a clear shortness of breath as well as no small measure of fatigue. It was easy to imagine that she might have been quite pale behind the mask, robes, and other such trappings of her form with no more than a glance to the great and bloody tear across her chest that the Xenos' attention had left her with.

"It's... nothing I cannot... attend to, in either case." Cennet concluded with a certain noble dignity and a measure of pleasant, careful warmth to each word.

Roscar Vanlen grind broadly at his Captain’s instructions, ”as you wish my Lady, leave it to me.” He wastes no time in turning to his keyboards while muttering instructions into a freestanding microphone at his station.

Medical personnel are arriving on the bridge now and several make a bee ling for Cennet and Grund.

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

While en-route from the Auspex Fin to the Temple, Jak contacts the Bridge.

"There is no easy way to seal the rupture the enemy vessel has made without risking the loss of crew engaged with the xenos boarders. All sections aft of the last breached frame may be considered at risk of sudden explosive decompression. Having small craft stand by for recovery and implementing decompression drill in those areas is my only current recommendation."

Draccius intercepted the message. Realizing an important implication, he then sent one off to the Lord-Captain.
++Lord-Captain. Chief Enginseer Tesla informed the bridge of imminent explosive decompression of the Temple section at the breach. I recommend engaging vacuum equipment and your immediate withdrawal.++

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

The Navigatrix, true to form, submitted herself to the care of those among the triage teams that had arrived on the bridge. Though, unlike the majority of the bridge staff, she presented a... peculiar challenge if only because of the insistence of one cleared to attend to her. It was, by all measures, no more than a formality but it was one insisted upon if only because of the particular rarity of her genetics and the trouble one bad actor might cause with access to such things. In any other company, she might have quipped about the absurdity of considering her disgraceful make up a trade or industry secret but ultimately, it was the truth.

The Engineseer's assessment drew her attention away from the unpleasant details of her own treatment. Propriety, after a sense, prevented her from acting on such things but the assessment was likely correct depending on the nature of the connection.

++Acknowledged, Engineseer. There's likely a... clamping mechanism holding the vessel in place. If we can dislodge those... perhaps the decompression can be... used to accelerate the de-coupling?++ the Navigatrix added with laboured breath on to Arius own assessment, gesturing to one of the flight controllers in preparation per Jak's recommendation. There was still the threat of hostile fighter craft and the other vessel lingering in the void but a small screen, some 15% of the deployed strength was easily enough spared based on her understanding of the situation.

The act of gesturing, however, with it's delicate interplay between muscle groups only proved to brighten the pain anew and earn an aggrieved hiss from the medic working through the mangled tatters of robe, flesh, and the cerametal prison she'd enshrouded herself in.

Re: Chapter 3, The Sink Hole

The reply comes in a few moments later.

++ I am attempting to implement a non-canonical, but theologically acceptable solution. The breach is a regular circle with a radius of approximately two point five four metres. Three Salvation Pods will be deployed in the Temple-Shrine. Explosive decompression will draw these into the breach more rapidly than denser or less aerodynamic objects such as human bodies, and their amourplas weave should hold pressure while permanent repairs are undertaken by an exterior hull team. This team may not be deployed until the Xeno vessel has decoupled. In terms of relative mass, utilisation of the Temple atmosphere as a reaction jet is unlikely to be effective. ++
