Officers mass, OOC thread.

Slightly more inclined to Navigator then I am ship's confessor admittedly. Just don't want step on toes and have a Canadian stand off lol.

I love the notion that that's two people being polite at one another until one backs down. ^_^

I've terrible luck with d20, if Hadrian is happy with being the Chirugeon, I'll step into Navigator. Otherwise, if he wants to roll for it.

20:07, Today: Kara Al Solawan rolled 4 using 1d20.  Roll off .

Re: Officers mass, OOC thread.

No. It's okay. I've never played a Missionary before and I have played a Navigator once before, so I guess I'll let you take the Navigator role.

Edit: Hahaha! you would have won anyway!!! =P

18:28, Today: Hadrian Kennek rolled 1 using 1d20.  just curious.

That's kinda hilarious. Let the GM know to update my name and will get to work shortly.

I noticed we have two techpriests; how does the hierarchy (if any) work? I would not pretend to understand the mysteries of the Omnissiah's priesthood...

In reply to Vormav (msg # 46):

We do have two I think, 1 Enginseer Prime and 1 Explorator.

As far as ranks go tho, iirc those two are about the same rank, just different departments, so it would be peers I think.

 More or less. Ish.

Both characters are Explorators, but that's a job-title more than it is a rank. It basically means the 'Indiana Jones of Tech-Priests, doing important work yes, but we'd really like it if you'd go and do that important work over there. Far away from us. Thankyou.'

On the ship, 'Enginseer Prime' is the head honcho of the engineering spaces - a bishop in his diocese, if you will and it should be noted that he doesn't work for the Rogue Trader. He works for the ship. Kind of the same way that the Navigator, Astropath and any senior clergy aboard don't either - they're all responsible to other authorities.

That said, they'll generally do anything the Rogue Trader asks them to do, because to do otherwise invites a sternly worded letter to said authorities.

M'lad Dracius there meanwhile, could be technically lower-ranked on the ship - maybe he's the Transmechanic in charge of ships comms or a Magos Biologis running our labs - but of higher station in the Cult.

It's one of the clever, understated things in RT that at first glance, everyone works for the same boss but at second glance, they've all got their own chains of command and areas of authority to balance, so no-one really gets landed with the butt-monkey roll. ^_^

Well, where's the fun in that?

Much better to leave it a tangle of nebulous tensions and politics for the GM to tug on to their hearts content. ^_^

Just give them both independent but slightly overlapping previews so they can passive aggressively give each other crap work and take credit for success.

Re: Officers mass, OOC thread.

I still have a tone of stuff to do but all the players are in place and I’m working towards getting the game started, hopefully before the end of the week. Some of you might be involved in private introductory threads before then.

Could you please make sure your character descriptions are filled out, partly so that others can easily see who they are talking too but mostly because white names on the Cast List spoils the aesthetic.

The game will start with the Pious Lament in a state of disruption and change with no opportunity for trade so I won’t be addressing the Profit Factor until later in the game.

Re: Officers mass, OOC thread.

Arius is a Magos Explorator. He only cares about uncovering archeotech, mapping odd stellar phenomena, and so on in the name of the Quest for Knowledge. He has no activity in the daily running of the ship. He's there thanks to one of those ancient large parchment contracts signed between the dynasty and the Adeptus Mechanicus. He only answers to the Lord-Captain as mentioned above and basically has first pick on Archeotech for study. In return the Dynasty got the help of the Mechanicus in some capacity. Or at least it did three centuries ago. Who knows. Either way, kicking him off the ship would be a kick to the Mechanicus' steel shins and would be far more trouble than it's worth. Ahhh. Politics.

In the game Arius represents the Adeptus Mechanicus' interests, particularly the aspect of the Quest for Knowledge. He's like an ambassador of sorts. A very sullen, introvert, cranky giant of a diplomat.

Alphapred, can you rule on the starting acquisition/Profit factor thing for character generation? (Stage 6, page 34)

Good point, and thanks for including a page number, very helpful.

For character creation only lets say the Profit Factor is 50.
