Re: OOC

I agree with the low classes pick and roll one but the advanced ones once unlocked which require two set stats should be automatic since we leveled high enough to get. Otherwise we would just roll another guy right away anyway. Figure the benefit of getting a level 7 guy would allow us to get unlocked class automatically just like thief.

Re: OOC

They don't have backstab, they're just sneaky, difficult to target and can hit things well with ranged weapons.

Re: OOC

Ok np makes sense otherwise to OP and overbalance the classes.

Treasure wise was looking at game listing, in game they has art worth money and some worthless but in PDF only looks like worthless. Is some art worth taking, willing to take the chance but want to have the opportunity it is worth something otherwise will never take it.

Re: OOC

I'm not using just those tables, the common stuff is either worth what it is in the PDF, the flash game or in the house rules (bludgeons being free.)  So it's possible you can run across something valuable.  Gotta keep em guessing :)

Re: OOC

I'm still thinking how to convert them to dungeon robber, and they're a long way to go.

Paladins will be some combination of str wis cha have lay on hands (it's 2hp healing per level distributed as you will, all in one lump sum, or 1 pt at a time or anything between.)  Paladins can also turn undead and have protection from evil (+1 AC/Saves vs. anything evil, and can't even be attacked by some evil things like ghosts and ghouls) I'm not sure what would be evil - pretty much everything that's intelligent in the dungeon?  Other than that they have all the stats of a fighter.  They do have to tithe away 10% of their treasure, and IIRC have a limit on how many magic items they can have as a down side, and can't do anything chaotic or evil (that's always been fun to interpret /s) nor associate with those that are (i.e. no monster henchmen in the party besides animals) or they become just a fighter.

Assassins would be str & dex. Start with thief base, but don't have the trap bonus.  Use all weapons, Have a possibility of outright killing a monster if the monster hasn't gone yet (sort of improved backstab.) They have disguise and spying abilities as well, maybe they could disguise themselves as a monster and just slip through or get monster henchmen easier? They're also evil so can't associate with Paladins.

Bards.  I like the weird 1e AD&D one where they start as fighter, change to thief (and get the hp!) then change to druid (and get the hp!) then pick up music, lore and charm abilities.  They require having almost all good scores, so I'm not sure what to do with that.  Maybe they start with all high scores as a class feature, but need to roll dex & cha to start?  It's the last class available so I figure it's o.k. to be unbalanced.  Though I might like to toss in other classes like rangers, illusionists, monks, maybe even warlocks from 3e+.  I could make it like the Oe bard which is pretty much still a fighter/thief/druid though far less powerful as they get small hp, and there'd still be the need of high scores.  I could just make it like all the older edition bards, a half assed thief/wizard that uses cha for spells.

Re: OOC

I had assumed there would be more parties.  I am enjoying the solo stuff but I feel like it's somewhat missing the point of being in a party, and I'd like more parties.   I'm thinking of ways to encourage this.

NEW I'm going to implement:

* 2nd character, as long as 1 is in a party.  If the rest of your party breaks up or dies or you want to leave it, choose one of your characters to be active, the other sits wherever they are (at the stairs from outside if they aren't in the dungeon) until one joins a party.  Hopefully this will allow everyone to enjoy both aspects of the game if they want to.

* No Split XP from monsters, everyone gets full xp value!  A party of 4 fight 4 level 1 monsters everyone gets 40 xp, instead of it being split to 10xp (what a single PC fighting a single level 1 monster gets.)  It's just a small bump, but it's encouragement.

* Combat is sticky.  If you enter a room with other players and monsters fighting you are in the fight.  You can still attempt to parley, bribe, sneak away, sneak and steal, or run away (becoming lost and possibly having some monsters pursue you) on your first round as you would normally.  Monsters fighting will treat you as part of the party and may randomly attack you even if you're hanging back.

EXISTING things I've been doing, but with some tweaks:

* Prioritize Party Threads.  I've been replying to party posts first, this hasn't really hasn't made a noticeable difference so far.  If I add more players, or slow down in posting (which I'll probably have to do at some point) or implement second characters, this impact will be greater.

* Caller - from the PDF and AD&D someone calls the party actions.  In this case that's whoever posts first.  That's only been for exploration, wandering, which way to go (glint/no glint) stairs, attacking/sneak/parlay when encountering monsters.  It doesn't include attack rolls, it can, but I'll only do that for the party members if they pre-approve it.
I will act off of the first post. If anyone later disagrees, if it's not too late or obviously exploitive ("Oh I didn't want to go toward the glint," after they were injured by a pit) I will retcon it.  As the back and forth is taking too long if anyone asks the party if they want to do something, I will assume they do unless anyone posted something else to do after before I got to the first post.  The party can always discuss SOP or how the want to handle it next time.  If discussions don't solve it, the disagreeing party members can always vote with their feet leaving the party.  This is always an issue in PbP with parties, if anyone else has better ideas to solve it, I'm all ears.

* More than 1 encounter in a room.  This is currently pretty rare.  I've done this in other games and it's worked out well to keep things more interesting.  This is a lot more dangerous for solo players though, which I hadn't considered when when doing it originally. Sometimes the monsters may be fighting each other, or neutral to each other instead of ganging up on the PCs though, which can help solo players, though overall such randomness is more dangerous.

* Treasure per PC.  Multiplying the treasure found by the number of PCs (monster useful items is per monster, monster numbers are per PCs so effectively it's the same.)

IDEAS. Under consideration

* Morale.  This is the chance monsters will run or surrender after they've been injured and/or their numbers have been reduced.  While this would make it easier for everyone, it helps parties a lot more as it occurs with reduced numbers (usually half if failed) which won't occur with solos as they're usually fighting 1 monster.  It also helps reduce fight lengths, which can drag on a lot with parties.  I would probably also apply this to henchmen which would make them less useful, but I'm already making them more useful by allowing them to be retained outside the dungeon.  The other downside is monsters running away, while I'd give xp, they could be taking valuable items with them.  I tried this in one encounter, I'm not sure about using it though as the flash/pdf don't use morale.  This is the one I'm most likely to implement, as I've always liked using morale checks.

* Increase monsters to party numbers.  Something like minimum of 2 monsters per encounter, or rolling d4 or d4+1 instead of matching PC numbers.  This will make it a lot more dangerous for solo, which is kind of the point. I probably won't do this, but am considering as it feels possibly a bit too drastic, but this is the way OD&D & AD&D was usually played, not adjusting for party sizes.

* Solo playing would be dropped.  Legacy only until your character leaves the dungeon, after that you would stop at the entrance and would need to wait until you have at least 2 in a party, and would be inactive if you leave a party until you get another.  This would probably require a lot more players to make this work, and is just a stray thought I had I doubt I'd ever feel comfortable actually implementing unless I end up with a lot of players in parties, or the soloing gets to be way too much.

Re: OOC

I like multiple characters with 1 being able to be solo. I like solo right now because I am retired and can post 20-30 times a day if you are active not being slowed down by those who post 1-2 times a day. I understand not all as lucky as me with time to post. So if I have one guy slowed down and one solo to go as fast as you can post for him would be great.

I have NP with the Chance to have multiple bad guys in a room say 2 for solo and up to double PC for parties. I am also ok with tougher mobs. Ex: Say on third level, when you make encounter chance the mobs could be from 2-4 level. So possible one lower or higher in toughness just make sure if treasure it is reflected on mob level too.

I like Party actions so PC can set some go to actions so it can speed up rooms.

I love the game, party would be fun but just so slow so please allow multiple characters with only 1 solo.

Plus maybe a entrance thread where those waiting for a group can post and RP while waiting to find group. Ex: A Tavern entrance where adventurers can gather for a group before using the cellar entrance. Any character can post and wait there, so even those only playing one character who want to group can go there.

Re: OOC

The ones I marked NEW before are in effect:

NEW *2nd character
NEW *No split XP
NEW *Combat is Sticky

Technically none of those are changes from the rules, as the PDF doesn't say to split XP, even have people meeting in the dungeon and makes no mention of multiple characters per person.

So just let me know you want one, give me a name, and I'll create a 2nd character.

Good idea on the Tavern thread, I'll go make it.

You have to unlock cleric and start one first.  I created the characters.

PS been a busy day, I haven't had time to do much, hopefully that's done now though and I can get to it.

Re: OOC

Just thought of something guys, besides the tavern being used for group finding. Thinking we could also use it for a barter place for the bands. Ex. My band finds another plate mail, sure I can sell it for 200 gp in the market but another band might want it for a little more since what a level 5 unlock to get it for sale. Just a thought no problems with a little Band interactions.

So my suggestion is any items you are willing to sell and the required price, list it in your band thread. So that others can see and might strike a bargain in PM's .
