RTJ/Start Here

This will be a 4ed Earthdawn game.  Newbies to the system are welcome.

This particular campaign will emphasize travel and exploration.  We will be spending quite a bit of time near or on the water.  I will be limiting certain races and disciplines due to.

Please note that I will be pulling material from "The Serpent River" supplement from earlier editions.

Races and Disciplines

As mentioned, a lot of this game will occur near, on, and even under water.

All Name Giver races from the Player's Guide are allowed except

-Obsidimen. They will be at too big a disadvantage.

-Windlings. Are allowed. But they may have greater difficulties than
other PCs in spots. Let players proceed with caution.

All Disciplines from the Player's Guide are allowed except for the following:

-Calvarymen. Limited to Windlings with Zoak mounts, or
                             T'Skrang with River Steeds.
Note on T'Skrang Calvarymen: PC must
come from House Ishkarat. And must agree to
                             certain conditions.

               -Questors. No Questors.

-Air Sailors Should be noted that we will primarily be
Sky Raiders be on a boat. I will allow some talents
to translate to working on a naval vessel.

Posting

I will be checking the boards once a day, 4-5 times a week.  I will usually be offline on Wednesdays for sure.

I ask players to post at least once a day 3-4 times a week.  More is better.

When posting, please:

          - Color dialouge and leave narrative as is. Ex:

Monkey looked at him, pulling a knife, and said, "I'm taking
over. And if you want to fight about it we can."

Any color for dialogue is fine except for orange and
            yellow

= OOC comments and die roll results should be shaded in orange

Monkey stabs him! To hit 12

           - As far as content, I ask that players please try to add some character
to their posts. You do not have to write a novel. A few lines are
fine. And while sometimes "Monkey stabs him!" is all there is to say, if
all your posts are "I roll to hit", then the game gets very draggy.

I do reward roleplay, even if it's just an attempt. This will include
XP, bonuses to rolls/lowering DNs, or providing opportunities. So
don't worry if you're not good at it. Just give it your best shot.

Players should use the RPoL die roller for this game.  Under "Game System/Special Dice" option please select "Earth Dawn (3 ED)".  Please do not use the 1/2 ED option.

Absences and Combat

If you know you are going to be offline for a while, please do try to give me a heads up.

Of course Real Life trumps gaming. If you do have to be offline for a while do to work or emergency, please let me know when you can.  I'm usually pretty forgiving.

Delays in posting can hold up a game, particularly in combat situations.  The way I handle this is as follows:

First, I will ask for all players to post their actions and any necessary rolls for that round at one time.  I will resolve them in order of initative.

Second, if someone has not posted by the time I check the board, I will NPC their character for that round.  I will assume they are defending or taking the action that makes the most sense at the moment.

I will not hold a game for a long time waiting on one player to post.

I may ask another player to make rolls for an NPC'd character at my discretion.

New Characters and Dead Characters

New players will start one circle level behind the group average or Circle Level One, whichever is higher.

I am not a character shredder.  But there may be times when PC death will occur.  Players may generate a new PC if they wish.  My philosophy is that Legend Points belong to the player, not the character.  So a new character will be generated with the same amount of LP as the prior PC had.

I am gifting every PC an additional 2 points each to both their Unconsciousness Rating and their Death Rating at the time of their creation.

Group True Patterns

I leave this up to the players to decide amongst themselves.  I will not mandate any player join the others in creation of a pattern.  Each PC should make that decision for themselves.

RTJ

If you would like to join us, please send me a PM with the following:

1) A statement that you have review the RTJ thread and
understand the rules for this game

2) A brief two to four line outline of your PC concept.
Name. Race and Discipline. A bit of background.

3) Any questions you may have about the game.

4) Please do not send me a completed PC sheet.

I will give you further instructions on character creation once I have had a chance to review and respond to your RTJ.

Thank you for your interest and hope to game with you soon.

House Rules

-Extra Successes in Thread Weaving Rolls result in additional threads that may be retained for use in a future spell.  These extra threads must be used within a number of rounds equal to the caster's Perception step.

Advancement-House Rules

Due to the nature of the campaign, I am modifying the training requirements presented in the rule book:

Whenever the rulebook requires the use of a trainer to learn a new talent/skill or advance a discipline circle, the player must still procure the services of a trainer who meets the required qualifications.  But there is no training time required.  The player must have a "conversation" with the trainer, who will confirm or advise the PC how to proceed.

For example, if Bob wants to advance to the next circle of Warrior, he must find and have a "conversation" with a higher ranked warrior.  But he does not necessarily have to spend the 40 hours over a three week period to achieve the training.  I will be assuming the PCs are training on their own and just need a push from someone more experienced to figure things out.

This is to narrative of the game where a trade boat is moving upriver.
