We've a half-dozen RTJs. I hope to begin play on the 1st or 2nd (hangover-dependent). The first posts will be introducing yoursleves to the rest of the party.

Some of you already know one another... More than I expected, people have personal relationships with the Bishop. You might want to see if you'd know of one another. We've a poacher who threw himself on the Bishop's mercy, his surrogate 'son' he keeps at arm's length, and a man dedicated to serving in the armies of the Light thus far.

Maun is a disgraced nobleman from an ancient family whose notions of chivalry made him quite unfit for courtly intrigues and maneuvers which is why he gladly heard the call of the Faith and leave the civilized areas to delve into the Great Forest. Valorous, honourable and too honest for his own good he is the perfect candidate for the men the Church seeks since he would not question its commands.
He has lost his proud horse long ago and his armor has seen better days but his bearing indicates a proud heritage. Not that it counts anything so far removed from the kingdom from which he hails.
The Bishop knows Maun's family, whose men have served the Church faithfully in the past, but Maun has not met him personally yet.

I guess, I am the distanced surrogate son. He was one of the very first persons to hold my tiny body in his arms as my mom died in childbirth. Taking me and raising me to become the agent that I have become.

So with that Gryphon is 21, a favorite with the ladies. Has great hand to eye coordination and surprising strength for his toned body. Wins about all the tavern games that have to do with throwing things.

If anyone is interested in creating a more complex or fleshed out backstory with him please PM or post here so we can work on it.

Yes, we are.

All items in Tiny Dungeon 2e have a unique modifier called “Depletion”. Each item is assigned 6 Depletion Points upon purchase. These points represent how sturdy the item is, and how long it lasts.

Every time you use an item outside of combat, after you’ve finished using it, roll a d6. If the result on the d6 is a one, reduce the Depletion by 1. If you used it in combat, roll at the end of the combat. Once Depletion hits 0, the item is used up and can no longer be used.

The Blacksmith in town can restore weapons, and a shop can provide replenishment for things that are used up like food and water.

Looks like I will be rolling every combat 1x if one rolled number goes down. Reminds me of Forbidden  food and water and arrows given like d8 if 1 rolled to d6 etc until d4 then empty could resupply etc. In field DM could sat found resource all would increase d size.

That's a total of 18 slots.
I tried to distribute the items found in the Adventurers Kit on those slots and come up with 11 slots:
Itemslots
a bedroll1
flint & steel1
a belt pouch1
a rucksackactually providing 3 slots
a lantern1
an empty waterskin1
oil1
a rope (50 feet)2
rations1
a torch1
a cloak1
Add weapon, shield etc and I run out of slots already :). Surely armor takes at least 2 slots?
Gryphon's 10 thowing knives would take up 10 slots (since a dagger takes one)?

The Dread:
Item Tracking
Each character sheet will have 6 inventory spaces (each with 3 “slots”) to write down their items. You should name the sort of container that each inventory space represents (such as sack, backpack, chest, etc). Certain types of items take up different amounts of spaces. We don’t present a huge specific list, but you should use the following rules of thumb when making decisions. Your Game Master will clarify anything that comes up.
• Items that take up 1 slot: Dagger, potion, coins, torch, rations
• Items that take up 2 slots: Short sword, short bow, hatchet, rope, extra clothes
• Items that take up 3 slots: Longsword and bigger, longbow, skis, tent, your Adventurer’s Kit.
As you acquire items, draw them in the appropriate amount of slots and mark their Depletion. Once your slots are full, you can no longer carry items.

So this is what I did with Relf

Relf:
INVENTORY:
WORN:
1.     Hunting bow
2.     Hunting bow
3.     EMPTY

BACKPACK:
1.     Adventurers kit
2.     "
3.     "

Sorry, this confusion has arisen because of a typo on my part. To clarify...

You have two collections of 3 slots. These can be designated as backpacks, bandoliers, sacks etc.

You do not have 18 slots. You have 6. You can obtain more, but you'll have to lug around more luggage as you adventure.

New here to but reading the trait it says

On a failed attack you can make 1 attack at disadvantage meaning a 1d6.

So it is an attack not a save, if save it would be make it to avoid damage. Trait says on failed attack, make attack at disadvantage.

#14:
OOC:
Each character needs to make a Save each round or take a point of damage from a stone-tipped arrow.
This hail of arrows seem to be treated as a SAVE rather than specific ATTACKS.
You cannot EVADE those arrows either as they are not ATTACKS.
My understanding anyway.
If they are not attacks, your trait does not trigger.
[Shrug] we will see, it's T6, so not complicated/simulationist, so your dagger might hit some foe hidden in the forest after all.

One of the benefits of a rule-lite system is that it runs most on rulings, not rules. Blackgryphon asked because he saw that a trait might apply. I thought it should since I was kind of making life easier for myself with the saves instead of a dozen or so attack rolls each round.

But the comment about the secret messages thing is noted - and it's a good one. I'll be making rulings in the open from now on, hoping that makes things easier.

Seeing the little green brigands suddenly appear and flank them, Brigit readies her bronze mace, taking a defensive position as she attempts to think of a plan of action. Perhaps a spell could help deter these creatures back into the woods? she wonders to herself.

OOC:

Initiative:
20:15, Today: Brigit of Loxburgh rolled 7 using 2d6 with rolls of 2,5.  Initiative
Failed 2 saves vs arrows
20:29, Today: Brigit of Loxburgh failed (no successes) using 2d6 with the Target Number system with a target of 5 ((1,3)).

Brigit, you haven't taken any actions. To help keep the game moving, im going to count you as evading this round, and give you a bonus action in your next turn (so you get 3 actions, not 2 as normal).  We're all learning the system here, I know it's not as clear for you as it is for me as well. Hopefully, we can iron out some kinks now, rather than later.

Re: OOC

So the Tiny Dungeon has a lovely initiative system I actually stole and used in my D&D games in a similar form.

Initiative in Tiny Dungeon isn't a 'who gets to act when' kind of a deal. Rather its a 'who gets to act in a round before the monsters do' deal.  All the players make the test and then this is the order of play:

First: All the players that passed the test act
Second: The monsters act
Third: All the players can act regardless of the test results.
Repeat septs 2 and 3 as needed.

Oooh so you're using Witchcraft/Wizardry. This is the 'magic-user' or arcane type of magic in the world. The spells are actually energies captured from another realm and stored in your head until unleashed. To unleash them, you make a standard test, no advantage or disadvantage (I mean, im sure there might be times those apply, but not normally).  Success - the spell goes off without a hitch... Fail, and the Dread gets to make up some 'yes but' situations. Roll really poorly and the Dread gets to be sadistic (I'm praying for snake eyes!).

Sure, when it makes sense for a 'focusing' action - like aiming or spending extra time on casting spells. Yes, I think evading and focusing could be used together for what could be termed 'the Giant tortoise maneuver...

Hello! It's pretty late my time, so I'll probably be checking in IC tomorrow. Looking forward to playing with everyone!

Re: OOC

Greetings, all!  I just got home from work and spent nearly an hour trying to find a fitting portrait that was not:

1) The wrong style/age, or
2) Sailor Jupiter

It did let me revisit my personal favorite "Female Modern Rugged" portrait, though!

So rugged

Anyway, I'll peruse the IC thread and see how I can show up.

Re: OOC

So...
I feel like we're in danger of stalling here if nothing happens soon. That's on me. I've not got any time pressure on and I feel like I did a poor job of hooking everyone in with the classic 'Lost Mines of Phandelver' opening.

I don't want this game to die. Here is my solution (of sorts)...
I'm going to give you all till Wednesday to introduce new PCs and discuss next moves. And then I'm going to send in the orcs.
Well, maybe not orcs.

Any thoughts?

Yeah Relf is waiting for food, his plan will then be to rest and begin their investigations in the morning.

Re: OOC

Yeah, we forgot to ping the GM in our little collaborative PM thread, but that's been resolved.  We should be able to have something up today or tomorrow at the latest (depending on time zones).

Either way, a cute healer will be showing up.

Well, at least until she opens her mouth.

Re: OOC

I've a quick question about the system itself.  My Healer trait says I can roll 2d6 and if I pass, I heal 2 HP.  But it doesn't say anything about what happens if I fail my check.  Am I allowed to try again until I succeed and that just shows how long it takes, or does a failure mean I won't get to try again for a certain amount of time?

Re: OOC

If time isn't a factor, I can't see a reason why you would be asked to roll in normal circumstances. If you were curing a magical illness or disease, the roll would likely represent a set of preparations and treatments you'd completed over a longer period. A retest would require a change in those preparations. I would let you reroll in those situations, I think.

That said, the game is more dependent on rulings over rules. So, context matters most - what would make sense at the time.

Re: OOC

Thank you!

I wanted to make sure I was doing things properly, as this is my first time using the system and I don't have a full copy of the rules yet (it's pending an order).

Re: OOC

Just say when you're ready to move on to the Fane.

On the good news front, Master Buckland has sent a message to say he's been unwell but still wishes to participate. Not good news about being unwell, I mean... Oh... You know what I mean. Just lets assume he shadowed Maun and Reif into the Golden Bough but has been staring off into the distance after his personal battle in the forest.

Re: OOC

I think we're pretty much ready.  Selena is paying diplomatic lip service to the Coinwarden but is going with the other regardless.

Making someone in a position to make your job difficult think you respect them and their authority can help prevent headaches down the road, after all!

Can't wait for Selena to let the others know her true feelings about the Coinwarden once they're out of the area.

Re: OOC

Are the ones that exited the building included in the obstacle? I assume we all hear the screaming and will be rushing back in, but I'm less sure if we will get to act in time

Re: OOC

None of the NPCs have left the building as yet - they're mostly being very unheroic and throwing themselves out of harms way as best they can currently.
