--The Many Districts of LA--
-Downtown-
The core of Downtown is Arcology Mile which runs from the partially submerged skyscraping arcoblocks beyond the waterline to Horizon's arcologies at the intersection of Highland and Hollywood. A lot of the abandoned real estate is been bought by Horizon. Presently most of the shining glass and steel arcologies either are still standing or are being renovated.
Surrounding Downtown are the shantytowns where the destitute live, surviving on the whims and scraps of the rich. It's no man's land by sunset, as the city police and most corps stop policing it after dark
Player lifestyles in this district range from Street to Low.
-East L.A.-
Originally East L.A. was populated by the well-behaved poor and working class who migrated to East L.A. from El Infierno. The area was destroyed by the "Twins" earthquakes and flood that devastated most of the Los Angeles basin.
Today it's mostly under-populated, though that is starting to change with reclamation projects run by ecological and construction corporations. Scattered throughout the area are small islands with shattered buildings which harbor scavengers and water-gangs, and the occasional dangerous paracritter or shedim.
Player lifestyles in this district range from Street to Low. Island-based housing also receives the W Zone quality at no LP cost/benefit.
-Hollywood-
This district includes Hollywood and West Hollywood. It is where you find the hangouts and fancy nightclubs of the rich and famous. The streets are lined with cascades of flowers and towering palm trees. In the daytime it's full of shoppers and tourists. During the night, it's celebrities and their fans. Security is extremely tight but at the same time unobtrusive
Player's won't have lifestyles in this disctrict for a while. Put an A rank in resources, it won't change the fact that you're still poor to these clowns.
-Long Beach-
The airport is still standing despite the earthquakes and flooding due to it being fortified before the "Twins" earthquake. Huge freeways were built over the seawalls and stretch toward the city's core. The seawalls themselves are heavily armed and on the island are steel high rises, industrial port complexes, and of course an extremely busy sea port.
Player lifestyles in this district range from Street to Squatter and may only exist on perimeter islands. Island-based housing also receives the W Zone quality at no LP cost/benefit.
-Pomona-
Pomona is divided from the rest of Los Angeles by the Covina Floodwall. During the flooding brought about by the "Twins" earthquake, the city of Covina acted like a breakwater for the debris that the flood was carrying. West Covina become a massive floodwall.
Pomona is currently populated by those too poor to leave. It's full of huge refugee camps made of pre-fab structures. A giant shantytown where the people are bitter and have no hope.
Player lifestyles in this district range from Street to Squatter and gain the Not a Home quality with no LP benefit/cost.
-Riverside-
The area provides many of the faculty and students at UC Irvine with their off-campus housing. It also hosts a sizable number of bio-tech research facilities and firms. Riverside also has many facilities that cater to those who are dissatisfied with a physical, emotional, or mental part of themselves and want it changed.
Player lifestyles in this district range from Low to Medium.
-San Fernando Valley-
San Fernando Valley is the home of smaller entertainment corps and independent media. The earthquakes heavily damaged the area but the flood inflicted less damage here than in the rest of LA. Due to reconstruction there are small pristine hubs of high rises which are surrounded by rougher communities.
In Los Angeles, people who aren't rich and still live west of the Covina Floodwall, live in the SFV. They inhabit densely populated housing enclaves consisting of sprawling, low-rent apartments and closely-packed high-rises.
Player lifestyles in this district range from Low to High.
-San Bernardino-
The city of San Bernardino is in the eastern part of the LA sprawl, in what used to be the San Bernardino county. Since the "Twins" earthquakes, a lot of the city is in ruins. It is a city with little corporate investment, a population that is mostly low-class, and whose SINless percentage is high. Neither the government of Los Angeles or the PCC have done any real rebuilding, focusing on areas that are more economically valuable.
The city has crumbling buildings and a decreasing power, water, and social services. Water is strictly rationed, police services are lacking or non-existent, and wireless networks are forced to rely on mesh networks. The residents out of anger have been increasingly turning to the criminal underworld and gangs, which results in the government decreasing the resources allocated to the city, which makes the citizens rely on the gangs more in a vicious cycle. Which has increased tensions and rumors that San Bernardino is going to become second El Infierno. The most powerful gang here are Los Verdugos who dominate East San Bernardino.
Player lifestyles in San Bernardino range from Street to Low and come with the Rough Neighborhood quality at no LP cost/benefit.
