Re: Out of Character
In reply to Nicomeus Vitus Magisterius (msg # 156):
Yes to much of this. It's not many steps until you get to D&D 5th which is basically just humans in cosplay for stats.
A duck is a nice "you wanna be special, fine, be special" and is canon.
A value trollkin is no great gain in stats, gets dark sense, but daylight is a bitch, and will be often treated with great suspicion.
A crested dragonnewt, or for a more experienced party, beaked, that is out of the loop has no dragon magic and could start with a poor selection of spirit magic. Actually good potential for a Humakti or Babeester warrior - as they are doomed to die such a cult would be appealing. But suspicion and fear is their lot.
Other beastmen for me would be a hard no. Not even a centaur - as so much of the game would essentially be them tending the horses whilst the party were indoors.
Agrimori is an option, even as an adult. Big minuses in bad weather. Lots of potential of the local toughs looking to prove a point with the big bugger.
Dwarves, a hard no.
A exiled elf, yeah, maybe. Lots of suspicion, not so much fear as elves need to be quite experienced to be a threat by themselves. Side note, elves on their own ground with runners massed attacks, pixie scouts, and magic support from dryads including use of other forest creatures - are deadly.
A bachelor newtling would not be unbalancing. And if the party get hungry, a tasty snack... as IMG the tails regrow and some people keep populations of bachelor newtlings as slaves for regular tail harvesting...
Morokanth is just about doable I suppose.
Telmori would be amusing in Balazar. One day a week the party would just have a rather wolf dog that happened to be immune to most weapons, LOL.
