In reply to Kenth Felaeon (msg # 5):

With your wingman tight, you rolled under the freighter as it started to shatter; the A-wings had to break contact with you both to avoid the debris, and moments later, went streaking away, and only a few seconds after that their range still increasing, jumped into hyperspace.

Simulation Over

[Private to Kenth Felaeon: Well done.  Successful indeed.  We'll have to better quantify a dead ship vs. and exploding one, but good work.  Nice job on your sheet too.]

In reply to Shadea Osk (msg # 6):

With the Y wings streaking in at top speed, beading in on the freighters, Shadea has time on her side, leading well, and hammering the lead one, until it pops and enough on the second on her line, that the port engine nacelle is flaming, close enough to see the pilot struggling to maintain control of the craft.  These pilots are good though, with the remaining Y wing nailing one of the freighters with two direct hits broadside, splitting the weak shields and tearing it open like a pinyata at a birthday party; the Y banks around hard, slewing with inertia and trying to line up a shot at the remaining freighter.  Your AI comm blinks an angry red, and the Y-wing's astromech spins the ion turret in your direction, trying to scorer a lucky hit on you, and nearly getting it...

The Y is being clinked by debris, and taking some front shield hits from the freighter, can't get a lock; as it comes around, looking for some maai to center the torpedo, you have your chance...

GMC: Shadea - Let's have another pair of moves by you!  Maybe you can finish the Y wing before he kills the freighter...  DC 22

Osk cursed under her breath. If only they had spotted them sooner, perhaps the damage could have been prevented. The mission was already botched the moment the bombers managed to bring their deadly deliveries home to great effect. But she could at least make sure they didn't get to finish the job on her second pass. Even though it was a simulation, retribution would be a sweet enough second prize to get. Continuing the previous trend of aggression, Shadea lined her fighter for another go at it, with the same careless disregard for her own safety as before. Her life and one Tie fighter paled next to a freighter, and it would bring her tremendous satisfaction to see the bomber go up in flames.
16:40, Today: Shadea Osk rolled 30 using 1d20+12.  All Out Attack.
Turns out I didn't add the attack modifier from the action last turn, but doesn't matter.

In reply to Shadea Osk (msg # 10):

Chance is taken, and successful; thy as they might keep you at bay with the Ion guns, your breakneck attack is all too much for them; though you take a few hits from battering through debris, your weapons are relentless; the Y-wing disintegrates, and one freighter is saved, anyway.

Simulation finished

GM OCC:  You missed it first time around, but I didn't.  ;)

[Secret to Shadea Osk: Well done.  Good writing there.]

Zinda was disappointed in her wingman without stopping to consider that was only a computer program and there was no actual person for her to be disappointed in, but she was rather enjoying evading the two enemies behind her. She aimed her TIE towards the free pair of uglies; she'd make another attack on them. With luck, she'd shoot them down; otherwise, she'd try to draw there attention and get all four to follow her. He TIE spat green lasers, Zinda now feeling much more confident and aggressive now that she knew that even if shot down, at least she wouldn't make a fool of herself.

00:49, Today: Zinda Seshani rolled 26 using 1d20+15.  All-out attack.

As everyone get a simulator mission in, Beef calls it done.  "Ok, ok people!" calls out LCDR Sallin, maybe a bit too loudly "That was pretty good.  Better dan me, all youse did, though I promise you that won't stands."  For now, though, get settled in, and continue getting familiar with all the docs I sent you.  Because we're going to run 6 hour watches, with two pilots at the ready at all times, we'll set pairs now.  These can change up, and depending on the contact, we may scramble any number of us.  So you're always ready, understood?

Flight I, Me, Arry, you're my wingman.
Deuce Flight, that's ahhhh, Kenth and Zinda.  You're on first waatch.  Stay local.
Trips is Zam and Shadea.  You relieve Flight II at 1200.
Fours is Arry and Yahn.  You cover from 1800 until 2400.

If we have to scramble bomber cover, it'll be Zinda & Zam on B1, and Shadea & Arry on B2.

Assault Shuttle escorts will be Kenth & Zam flying Cover I, and Cover II will be Zinda, Shadea.

If you're not on Watch, like I said, get settled in.  But I also want a write up of your sim mission, and pull the playback on someone else's and critique it.  Not mine.  I want it before your next watch.  Whenever you're on Watch, I want at least on sim mission, for data collection and analysis.

Any questions?"

After questions are finished, LCDR Sallin states matter-of-factly "I have business with the XO.  Dismissed." and then stalks out of the hangar.

When Zinda got out of the sim she took off her helmet and smiled. "Phew! That was fun, although a little nerve-wracking. I enjoyed keeping one step ahead of those pursuers."

She came to attention and saluted Sallin. "Yes sir! I'll be ready, I'll do my best to keep us all safe."

When Sallin had left, she relaxed. "Well, that didn't go quite how I imagined it, but it was real fun. A great idea by the commander. A lot easier than first learning about each other's flying in battle, right?"

"I guess we'll be partners, Kenth. I'll do everything I can to not let you down." she said warmly.

Kenth waited for Sallin to finish. He didn't have any questions at the moment so kept quiet until he was gone.

At Zinda's comment he grinned, "I seriously doubt that happening. Looks like we got another five plus hours, any preference on how to pass the time?"

"Could have gone better..." Shadea quietly lamented to herself as she finished her simulation. Perhaps that's why there was no such thing as enough Ties, the adequate amount of firepower to eliminate a threat was always 'more'. Just to be on the safe side, avoiding unnecessary damage, and because outlaws and terrorists deserve no better.

The simulations went more or less smoothly, at least on paper they all knew how to fly, not that she had any doubts. The training at the academy didn't allow any room for less, but simulations and real combat were two different things. Eager as they were, Osk had to wonder how any of them would manage that, including herself.

Having ha no opportunity to adequately introduce herself, Shadea approached the alien and nodding to Zam she said. "Shadea Osk, looks like I am your wingman, that was a fast one you pulled on the simulation."

Zam inclined his head in recognition of the comment, but his comment was self-deprecating, "It was luck. It was a maneuver of last resort." Realizing he was speaking to a human, he attempted a smile. "But thank you." The Umbaran looked the woman up and down, nodding. "It is why we have wingmen. To ensure we don't have to make suicidal decisions." He offered another smile, this one with more feeling.

His own homeworld was no secret: he doubted there was a large population of his species anywhere outside of Umbara. But humans were not so limited. "What planet are you from?"

Yahn rolled his foot like a kid that's been scolded.  He ran this hand across his head as Sallin moved away "I can't believe that I just, just, froze.  I'm so embarrassed.  Here we are, supposed to be the best of the best of the best, and poof, nothing.  And - " he stops, reaching a hand out to Arry - "No offense, but, last flight.  Wow.  Still, I'm your wing, and I'll stick to you."

He looked at Zinda, Zam & the others.  "I think I need to get my schiess together & then get in a workout.  Then mabe some eats and another sim mission or three. Have fun exploring. I just gotta, oh man, I dunno, I just..." the muttering fades away as he moves to the lift to get back to quarters.

OCC: Yahn's person is awol, but may come back.  We'll see.  Be free to interact with him though.

And as it so happens, at that moment two I-1 recruits come down the access to your deck - F Decks - via the lift with datapads and painting implements.  They see you and freeze, unable to salute because their hands are full.  "Uh hello sirs" one stammers, "We're just here to paint the lockers and whatnot.  We just got the orders for who's ship is who is, uh who gets which one."

"You are far too modest." Whatever the logic behind the maneuver, it had achieved results, and that left an impression. "I am from Taiid, you probably never heard of it." And in truth her homeworld was a rather rural backwater not really worth anyone's attention. By the same token, Osk threw the question back at him. "What about yours?" Not being from one of the more cosmopolitan parts of the Empire, Shadea wasn't quite used or acquainted with many aliens.

Arry nodded to the two ratings and moved so they could get to their work without her being in the way. “Thank you,” she told them in her accented Galactic Basic.

She looked at the others in her new command and moved to stand with them. “Getting to know the layout of the ship is sound. I will join you.”

She looked at Zam and raised one eyebrow. The humans inviting them was novel, something she hoped Zam would agree with. Having a few people treating them with something besides contempt would make their new assignment more pleasurable.
