Dice Rolls
Because of the nature of RPOL and players posting attack actions in random order, I wait until everyone who can has posted, or 36 hours, whichever comes first before resolving a round of combat. To speed things up, use the following format when posting your actions.
When making an attack make dice rolls as needed for attack, damage, defense.
For attack use the following format in the Reason for Roll field.
Attack <weapon> <type of attack> <target type> <special mods>
<weapon> is the weapon you are using for the attack, and any special mods (e.g. 1H vs 2H)
<type of attack>
something like swing, thrust, single-shot, semi-auto, auto, etc.
<target type> would be mod + type
mod could be closest, largest, strongest, weakest, furthest, etc
type could be like raider, mole rat, big green monster
<special mods>
things like All-Out Attack (Determined), Move and Attack if nothing specified Attack is what will happen
If Aiming or Evaluating specify target like <target type> above
If your roll was 16 or above, or 17 or above with high enough skill, skip this section.
Roll damage using the following:
Damage <type>
with <type> being something like imp, pi, cur, etc.
Roll hit location. If hit location is not rolled, then torso is hit.
Do not roll critical hit or critical miss effects.
Defense should use the following in the Reason for Roll field.
Defense <type of defense> <mods>
<type of defense>
Dodge, Parry, Block are the usual ones. Against ranged normally only Dodge can be used.
<mods>
mods could be All-Out Defense(Increased), drop, retreat, etc.
Abbreviate if need be, but make sure abbreviations are clear. Normal abbreviations are:
AOA = All-Out Attack
AOD = All-Out Defense
sw = swing
thr = thrust
ss = single shot
sa = semi-automatic
fa = full automatic
cls = closest
strg = strongest
larg = largest
near = nearest
At the end of each post for a combat round always post a Perception roll. This may or may not be used, but by having players post on every post, they never know if they missed something or it wasn't used. This gives players some control without inappropriate knowledge.
For rolls in which the character would not know if they succeeded or not, either the GM will have everyone roll, even if not needed (e.g. Perception checks), or the GM will roll in secret (e.g. Detect Traps). If unsure, state what you intend to do and the GM will state whether or not you need to roll.
