Ironically, that's not one of the sample enemies I wrote up for the rulebook.  No reason we couldn't still fit them in though...

In short, there can be anything in the setting that we want, with the general guideline that it should fit the established tone.  And Aspects are explicitly a tool that you can use for world building, so if you want to create an Aspect about dealing with lycanthropes, that establishes that lycanthropes exist in the world.

In even shorter, if you want them, then yes they exist.

(maybe that's who will be the Jackals of the Street?)

I would imagine so, yes.  Perhaps even someone in the party?

I chose ‘digital bitch’ as my steed’s aspect, with the idea being that it has a powerful computer built into it that can be used for hacking.  So I hope there’s still something around to hack.

Re: General OOC

My Great Deed Aspect is The Legend Reborn. Having found a hallowed weapon or item from one of the greatest heroes of the past, who fell from a mysterious death. By wearing and using it, my character is a heralded return of the this legendary hero.
Since Aspects are supposed to be both positive and negative, this also comes with a heavy weight of obligation and expectations, as well as skepticism, as there is with any legend or prophecy.

The Temptation Aspect is Playing With Fire. He is young, exuberant, and a romantic. He is loyal and steadfast, but that also means that he's fast to develop attachments and could be easily manipulated.
Especially by a pretty face.

I'm used to round-robining the remaining aspects around so that everyone is tied to each other, so I'll wait until the rest of y'all have your basic ideas set and go from there.

Default is that computers are Before tech which you might uncover during your investigations, but are not part of the modern world in any meaningful way.  That said, Aspects allow you to modify the setting as discussed upthread, so this might be somewhere that that happens.  What did you have in mind for "hacking"?

The Legend Reborn
Playing With Fire

These both sound great!  Sounds like the old hero's weapon should take one or both of your enhancements for starting gear.  And we can talk privately about the truth of the legend, or if you just want that to be a surprise when the time comes.

It might involve breaking into secure networks to find some important information, or even connecting to an ancient data source and analyzing it.

Hm... We could say something like there are scavenged computer parts in your Steed, so it's able to interface with any ancient computers you find (and potentially circumvent security, etc).  Flip side of that Aspect would then be that your Steed has some of the same vulnerabilities as ancient computers.  Does that sound like a good fit for what you were thinking?

Nice set.  I like the variety we're getting in tones for different characters - wondering if maybe I should add something to the rulebook about character playlists as another way to add some flavor...

Player 2:

Knight training includes basic repairs and maintenance, but not the heavy stuff.  In game terms this would mean you can do the work to repair stress or consequence damage as long as your Steed is still operational, but if damage gets maxed out then it needs to go to someone with more advanced training and tools.  If you want to be that someone then you can cover it with one of your Aspects, and it would represent some kind of training or experience (or being a mechanical prodigy, or whatever else you choose) outside of the standard Knight training.

Well, still here, just had a hell of a week. Lost seven pounds of ballast from both ends.

At any rate, I like the idea mentioned of the Gear being associated with the Legend Reborn.

Stats for now would be as follows
Courage +2
Diligence +0
Wisdom +1
Empathy +2
Prudence +1
Prowess +1

The idea of the character I have brewing (named Udo Graves for the time being) is impetuous, high on confidence and eagerness to get out there, minimal on discretion. He would also probably be the youngest of the Neon Knights; someone the others have to keep an eye on.

For the Steed, rolling along with this idea is Freewheel Burning or Turbo Lover. Same idea either way, just a matter of what sounds better to y'all (either way, it's Priest, so that's a win)

Chroma, based on their background contributions; Loyal/Paragon Knight.
Geezer; based on interactions. "Father"/Mentor/Old Guy knight.
Udo based on Wishlisting Young/Hothead knight

So that leaves something like
Crazy Knight (Pellenore)
Studious Knight
and Cowardly/Disgraced Knight

Re: General OOC

We should probably talk about Aspects for a minute.  Right now you guys are in a situation where you've lost a roll badly, and if either of you can find a way to make one of your Aspects relevant it will at least make it hurt less.  I'm looking at both of your character sheets trying to think of anything myself that I can suggest and I'm having a hard time, but also some of the Aspects that you have, while they sound cool, it's not clear what they actually represent in-game.  So I think it might be useful if we pause for a minute to clarify what they mean and how they might be used, either for or against you (you do want them to be usable against you because that's how you earn more fate points to spend later on).  And also you can take this opportunity to change any of the Aspects on your sheet that you're not happy with, or fill in some blanks that are still there.

Playtest question - going strictly by the mechanics, "get stabbed in the chest and take a penalty to Wisdom" is totally valid.  When you decide which stats to use on a roll, you are essentially wagering those specific stats, and when it goes badly this is what happens.  But from a narrative perspective it seems kind of weird.  Any thoughts on this from the player side?

Re: General OOC

Major rule update - https://drive.google.com/file/...nLPPWX8hrIv8UZc/view

After my growing dissatisfaction with the current setup in this and other play-by-post games, plus feedback from finally getting to run a live session, I've updated the core stats and how they work.  The new stat list is on p4-5 of the updated pdf.  And we're no longer doing the "combine two stats," it's going back to the standard Fate Accelerated system of your stats being between 0 and +3, and only using one on a given roll.

Significant ripple effect of this is that vehicles and mounts (including your Steed) no longer have their own stats that you add to your roll when mounted, just the Aspects and stunts that they give you while riding.  But I still wanted to have some mechanical differentiation for the fact that your motorcycle is a lot faster than, say, a horse pulling a cart, so I added a "speed rating" stat that only gets used in situations where that comparison is important.

Also, I decided I didn't like "impairment" as an injury option, so I got rid of that and replaced it with minor consequences like in standard Fate Accelerated.

When you have time, please update your characters to fit with the updated rules.  Let me know if you need help with that, or if you have questions about anything.

Re: General OOC

Geezer - it looks like you forgot to add a stat to your roll.  Also, your character sheet looks like it's still under the old system, before the most recent update with the significant change to stats.  The stat array now is +0/+1/+1/+2/+2/+3, arranged however you like.  Why don't you update your sheet and then you can reroll, so you don't have to worry about already knowing the result and having that affect your decision.

Re: General OOC

It occurs to me that we've been going nonstop this whole time, all in one "session."  Since that does affect some things in the Fate system, let's call this a session break.  If either of you have fewer than 3 fate points, you refresh back up to 3 now.  And I don't think that either of you have any "once per session" abilities but if you do then those are now reset.

Also, thinking about this idea that you had a plan and it went poorly, I think I want to give that some mechanical weight.  Think about how your character would be affected by this and then give yourself a temporary Aspect related to that - Plagued by Self-Doubt is the first idea that comes to mind for me, but maybe you have something different that fits.  The important thing is that it's predominantly negative.  This Aspect will stick with you until you've put some good effort into making up for your mistakes, at which point it will be replaced by a more positive temporary Aspect that lasts until... I'm not sure yet, we'll see what makes sense at that time.  How does this sound to you guys?

The continuing saga of rulebook revisions, and specifically updating the approaches/virtues/whatever.  I got some feedback about dropping the knightly virtues and making the stats more metal, so after chewing on that for a bit here's what I came up with.  Tell me what you guys think:

Power - use this when you act with honor and strength of spirit, inspiring those around you with your noble words and brave deeds
Thrash - use this when you act with barely-controlled energy and aggression
Prog - use this when you act with patience and open yourself to complexity
Steel - use this when you act with irresistible force and resolve
Chrome - use this when you act in a way that draws attention to you and seeks to impress
[Mercury/Quicksilver - not sure which to go with] - use this when you act with stealth, cunning, and misdirection

Re: General OOC

Black Sabbath is the original inspiration, of course, but the game as a whole spreads widely through NWOBHM and power metal (no way to make NWOBHM a game stat though).  And there are references in the rulebook to others as well.

As I've had a couple days to mull it over though, I'm back on the fence - on one hand I like the tone, on the other hand it feels like maybe the wrong kind of meta, pulling players out of the game rather than immersing them deeper into it.  I think I'll need to get a live group together, at least for a one-shot, and see how it feels when I tell someone to roll Prog.

Actually I thought more about that list and didn't like what I came up with last week, too much abstraction involved, so here's what I'm thinking of now:

You act with ...
Passion when your emotional intensity is front and center
Restraint when you carefully collect information and balance risks and rewards before taking action
Instinct when you go with your gut and don't bother waiting for confirmation
Sleight when you use stealth, subterfuge, or misdirection
Accord when you act on your understanding of others around you
Force when you rely on the raw strength of your body or mind

Thoughts?

Re: General OOC

Yeah, it sounded fun at first when I was writing it (and Chrome was probably my favorite there), but then the more I thought about it the more it felt like it was breaking the tone I wanted.  Six different metals that make symbolic sense could maybe work, although there's nothing else in the game that's focused that much on metallurgy so it would still be out of place, and the metal subgenres just take too much mental effort (and subjective interpretation) to remember which one goes with what kind of action.  The list now I think does better at focusing where I actually want it to, with more of the intense action tone than the earlier versions had.

As for the current IC scene, are you actually doing anything at the moment or just waiting for the bad guys' next action?

No, Restraint is more like the old Prudence.  Wisdom doesn't have a clear analogue in the final version, but I guess if you're trying to go 1:1 as much as possible then Instinct might be your best bet.

If you're not sure, you can also look through the sample stunts on p27 of the pdf and see which ones map onto which virtues, and see if that helps you decide how you want to rebuild your character.  Honestly I think that was one of the most helpful parts for me as the designer to get my head around how I wanted to divide and define the different virtues.

But since you bring it up, these characters altogether, and possibly the current storyline as well, I would also be open to that.

Here's what I came up with for stats (so far):

Passion: +1
Restraint: +3
Instinct: +1
Sleight: +2
Accord: 0

If this is just roleplay for the fun of it, with no specific goals outside of the dialogue itself, that's fine.  But I also get the sense that you are maybe trying to do something, like goad the commander into losing his cool and making a mistake of some sort.  If that's the case then we'll need to bring dice into it.  I'm seeing this as a Create an Advantage action (see p8 of the rulebook if you need a refresher on how that works), rolling with Sleight, for the opportunity to give the commander an aspect called Overly Frustrated or Angry Again or whatever exactly you want it to be that fits with the action.  For the sake of time and simplicity I'll tell you now that this roll would be against difficulty 4.

Or if there's something else you're trying to accomplish instead, we can talk about that and determine what rolls it needs, if any.

Re: General OOC

Actually, I was trying to make him laugh (obviously, unsuccessfully).  Geezer doesn't really have a master plan at this point and is mostly just playing it by ear.
