I figured Rex is the kind of person who is really affectionate towards his Mon, not so much to most other people. To him, the money is about keeping gear topped off and being fed. That said, he is impulsive and materialistic, so he usually blows surplus funding on snacks for Mister Bitey and whatever occurs to him in the moment to purchase, once he's got the food and "bills" for the near future figured out.
