Dragons of Despair 1.2 -- The North Wood (Ayrron, Valik)
Dragons of Despair, Chapter 1: The North Wood
Location: The Forest North of Solace, Abanasinia
Date: Nuindai, Late Afternoon, 23rd Reorxmont 351 AC
The air surged fierce and sweet, carrying the sweet musk of pine. The soft murmurs of stirring leaves, insects, and small animals filled the landscape. The clear highland sky blushed with the end of the day and began fade into starry sleep. Solinari and Lunitari both hung low in the sky, each fading as the first day of Autumn fell to a close. This is home. From deep within the forest, it was easy to see the serenity of the valley, peaceful and untouched. Dense forests of pine carpeted the mountainsides, broken only by thick aspen woods. The mountains circled this valley floor and form a soft highland bowl. Two years ago, you and your friends parted ways -- to chase rumours of war and stories of true healing and miracles. Tonight, you find yourself back in the valley, exploring through the woods as you made your approach back in to Solace to report on your discoveries.
Ayrron liked to approach Solace from a different direction every time. It made it new and interesting, and that was the whole point, right? Thus he found himself in the forest just north of Solace this time, on his way back. Thoughts of his friends, of reuniting with them, or stories told and shared spurred his feet so that he fairly skipped across the forest floor. He felt almost as if he was flying, which raised an interesting question -- what would it feel like to fly -- to actually fly through the air like a bird. But why did it have to be bird? Why not a cat? Could cats fly? maybe they could one but forgot, so now all they could do was land on their feet. Up ahead, he heard a crashing sound throught the woods -- like a very large cat which had been flying and suddenly realised it couldn't, so now was falling.
Valik found himself hunting through the forest, following an old buck's trail when he heard a noise from up ahead -- snapping and crashing sounds, the type of sounds someone might make if they were completely unfamiliar with the forest -- or if they were moving at speed.
