0) RTJ Information

Thank you for your interest in the Can't Take the Sky From Me!

I was hoping that fans of the Firefly Series would recognize the catch-phrase, and would know exactly what we're doing here. However, if you're new the Firefly franchise, the game is set in the early decades of the 26th Century

By then, Earth as we know it has been used up, and humanity was forced into the vast reaches of space to colonize new worlds. By 2517, humans managed to terraform and colonize hundreds of New Earths. The more central planets formed the Alliance and tried to get all the colonies to all join under their banner. Things didn't exactly turn that way though. War ensued, and many Independent Colonies drifted to the edges of the core systems, far away from Alliance control.

Out of all the dangers out there in the Verse, the most feared are the Reavers.

Reavers were originally humans from the planet Miranda. The Alliance government used Miranda as a testing ground for the chemical agent G-23 Paxilon Hydrochlorate, or AKA "Pax" (Latin for "peace"). It was added to the planet's air processors in order to calm the population and weed out aggression. The agent worked, but too well: 99.9% of the population became so lethargic that they stopped working, talking and, eventually, eating and moving. They simply lay down where they were and allowed themselves to die. The remaining 0.1% of the planet's 30 million people (approximately 30,000 total) had the opposite reaction to the Pax, becoming mindlessly violent and extremely aggressive.

Following the events of Miranda, the Alliance sealed all records regarding the event and deemed the world unsuitable for colonization. When Reavers began attacking outer colonies, only a few officials within the Alliance knew the real cause.

The core worlds are protected by fleets of Alliance Cruisers that patrol Alliance space, making things harder for smugglers; however the fringe space outside of the Alliance's control is now full of opportunities, some more dangerous and rewarding than others..!

You are the captain for your own interstellar vessel, it's up to you to, well: "find a crew, find a job, and keep on flying."

The rules are loosely based on Gale Force Nine's Game:  Firefly The Game: Find a Crew - Find a Job - Keep Flying.

If you are serious about joining, please submit the following information in your RTJ:

1. Character Name, Moral/Immoral, and Ship Name: you’re the captain of your own vessel, I want your character’s name, whether he/she's the immoral type or not, as well as the name of the vessel you'll be trekking with across the verse.

2. Background: I want some history about how you found yourself in the captain's chair.

Did you borrow the money for your ship, or did you manage to scrape some credits and paid for it yourself, even if it's not quite the ship you were hoping for?

I want to know your motivations as a captain. As above, do you owe someone money? Do you have a young family to feed? Do you have a grudge against a certain Alliance officer? Are you angry at the world, and would rather see it burn? If you dream of heading your own trade empire, etc, what's standing in your way? This is where you tell me all about it.

3. Solo or Co-op: this is mainly a creative writing role-playing game, but I want to know if you prefer bouncing off your ideas against someone else or if you'd rather only get prompts that you react to. In a solo game, I will interact with you strictly with respect to the game mechanics (dice throwing, telling you about the outcomes, loot you can grab, etc. Meanwhile, if you prefer a coop-writing, I will occasionally add my own twists to bounce your writing off of.

Regardless of your choice, I will not be adding things into your inventory that you make up for yourself. For example, you might refer to shooting 20 guns at the enemy, or that your crew of two hundred, or that you suddenly have an enchanted sword. At the end of the day... the game mechanics will limit the amount of dice you will throw, and the type of gear you will end up having.. otherwise, have fun..! :D

4. Posting Rate: How often can you post? While this is a Solo game, there are other players shaping events around you. I typically give players a whole week (minimum) before ending a game turn; however, some of the options you have might require some dice rolls and some input from me / other players (if a PvP situation arises), in which case it might be good to post more than once a week.

Which is why I need you to commit to regular weekly check-ins, and that if your availability starts waning, I request that you let me know.

5. Mature Themes: You acknowledge that this is a game set in the Firefly universe which can a violent and immoral place. Drugs, alcohol and contraband are rampant, and having a bounty on your head is commonplace. As such, you understand that I must apply the following rules from RPoL's Mature Games Policy:

Mature Policy: /help/?t=faqs&page=maturepolicy
Adult & Mature Games FAQ: /help/?t=faqs&page=adultfaq

CONFIRMATION: (in writing) that you understand the difference between RPoL's Policy on Mature vs Adult Content, and that you agree to abide by those policies in keeping your posts to the more Mature & General audience.
